The law actually concerns commercial use of images, so posting it on your personal website wouldn't count, and the reason we are so concerned up here about privacy laws is because we have watched our nieghbors to the south systematically losing their right to ANY sort of privacy for years, if you give the government an inch, they will take a mile... Its been a LONG time since we have considered the government to be looking out for a citizens best interest, and we are critical of ANYTHING that they try to pass through parliment these days and thats the way it should be.
They can just do what every IT department at every job I've ever had does, blame it on the users! Currently our server difficulties are being explained to me as "Employees are using to many wildcard searches of the database" and somehow that explanation has so far appeased the managers... luckily for the IT department management is baffled by complex techie speak such as "wildcard searchs" and will likely put out a memo declaring "Wildcard searches are bad for the computers, please refrain from using wildcard searches on company computers" *sigh
I am building a media centre PC with a mATX board I have kicking around with an AMD 2800+ and an ATI 1600 in it, and really considering just running Linux on it, now I have a friend that wants to trade the AGP X1600(ATI) for an Nvidia 6800agp card and I am wondering which has better support under linux, I'm not concerned about the 3d right now just the dual output support and the respective video (I mean movies) support. My 1600 has 512meg on it but if driver support under Nvidia is better I would trade him for the 256Meg 6800. I haven't really used linux since about 2000 and then it was slackware I installed, but for media centre I would need something my girlfriend could actually figure out to run movies, mp3's etc... is there any real difference between ATI and Nvidia drivers on Linux?
I would purchase all the gizmos and tech wonders I could get my hands on while the funding lasts, I mean wouldn't you? They pretty much THROW money at H.S. right now, makes work alot more fun with remote control flying whatsits and whole companies scrambling to built gadgets for ya... not that I REALLY think any of it is necessary mind you, but that doesn't stop me from buying the latest Nvidia cards for my PC when I REALLY don't need two 8800's in there... how do you get a job in Homeland Security BTW?
I'm not going to get into all this BS about marketing, but personally I had an Ibook, battery died in 3 weeks, took 4 months to have it fixed and when I got it back the drive had been reformatted and I lost some things, #2 My ipod battery only lasted a month was sent in and came back with a faulty screen after which I threw it out, Safari is a piece of crap, and I can't play a decent game on an Apple computer. So all of this "you get what you pay for" BS is lost on me, as I bought the over priced junk, and then had to replace it with something that actually worked every single time. I now have a simple flash mp3 player that WORKS. A custom PC that not only WORKS but blows away my Ibook, and I don't need an iphone because I don't care if my peers think I'm cool or not. again just my 2 cents.
It seems to me that she probably KNEW she would be causing a stir with the "device" and good for her! The way things are going with so called "homeland security" we'll all have to have our ID's tattoo'd on our foreheads and wear metal free standard issue airline uniforms to get a flight. Maybe she'll fight the charges as they can technically call anything they want a "hoax" device without challenge under the current laws, anyone remember the ATHF fiasco in Boston?
Well another reason not to use anything but windows is the fact that I have $1200 worth of video cards in my PC for gaming, and none of the games I play work anywhere but windows... and I have two Nvidia 8800's running in SLI which also is windows only. I don't use my home PC for work, we have PXE linux at work, and I tend to leave work AT work. I would LOVE to dump windows, but unfortunately I will not be able to especially since, when the new directx 10 games come out in the fall they will only run (in directx 10) under Vista. Now people try to tell me, why don't you just sell the video cards and get a 360, but honestly the 360 can't hold a candle to the two 8800's and don't currently support a mouse and keyboard or the mods for my multiplayer games (moslty Battlefield 2 mods) If Linux ever DOES support my gaming I will gladly switch, but currently the only next gen game on linux is Id software stuff and ETQW is a piece of crap.
Regardless of what kind of machine records the votes poor black and brown districts have been throwing away votes by the thousands. In the last election the number of "bad" democratic ballots outnumbered "bad" republican votes 600 to 1. This isn't counting the "provisional" ballots that aren't counted at all. If you really believe that who you vote for matters anymore in the USA, you haven't been paying attention.
oh sorry I meant GOOD games, I have the Beta for ETQW and its pretty lame... how about something ppl actually play? Battlefield series? Source? HL2? Bioshock?
Missed my point. Where did the mass of english comments come from? Not Montreal.
uh Montreal is not all french, most people there speak english as well...
Still the only thing holding me back from using Linux, is that fact that I like games, and if I want to play them I need DirectX support... Linux will never have it, so I will never have any use for Linux. And yes I know some crappy games run on Linux, but I want to play current multiplayer FPS, and for that you need windows unfortunately.
If someone finds a way to emulate directX 10 well under Linux, maybe I won't have to install Vista this fall to play Crysis, but thats pretty damned unlikely.
The actual deciding factor in my not attending any more local LUG's was honestly the fact that several of the guys weren't really into personal hygiene... I mean fat guys sweat I understand, but I just couldn't stomach another session of holding my breath whenever someone leaned in to look at my screen, or came near to offer advise. I even tried handing out gum, but to no avail(there really is no tactful way to offer deoderant) Sadly I decided that I would just use the internet for my info, and stay in my climate controlled office, where I can control the odour.
I hope I get letter from them, in my current state of health it will need to be this year, but it would give me the opportunity to shoot an RIAA lawyer in the face at close range. This is only one of the possible scenarios that would be more satisfactory to me than my current fate, anyone have any suggestions on how to go about being sued by the RIAA? I can't possibly download more movies, my harddrive is full!
The only way to take advantage of the good graphics in Crysis will be to upgrade to Vista, as MS does not plan to let anyone else use DirectX 10, I know that I won't be doing anything of the sort until they sort out the problems that cause your games to run at -20% of their potential under Vista, I bought a $480 Video card to make my games MORE fluid not LESS.
It doesn't really matter whether we are able to produce alternative fuels, I mean we have had alternatives to internal combustion altogether for years, but the people that make money from the oil and autoparts have literally crushed (really... literally crushed then busted into tiny pieces) the beginnings of a great program that produce fast, zero emission electric vehicles, and they have forced "hybrid" vehicles on us in their place. Unfortunately whats good for earth, and the people is NOT good for corporate bottom lines, and until we are completely out of profitable sources of oil (about 2090 is my estimation)there will not be a viable alternative to gasoline engines in the US. Oil peaked in the mid 90's, but you won't really notice the slide for about 20 more years, but boy will you notice it then.
Its the weakness of will in certain individuals thats is the problem, not the game, or the drink, or the gambling. I am the same way with video games, I would LOVE to just sit here and play online all day, BUT I have responsibilities. I take care of my responsibilities because it would be selfish to just do what I WANT, and ignore what I NEED to do. If you can get by the guilt of being a selfish and worthless blob in front of a monitor and I know that the things I say to myself to justify "one more round" are a load of crap. Its when you become so selfish that you can ignore the guilt caused by acting this way that you start to have serious problems, but the answer is simple. STOP.
(flame away but you know its true)
Sorry, but it IS funny, because as you will see soon enough, they weren't trying to catch terrorists, they were using their newfound powers to further their own ends, politically and financially. I cannot believe there are still people around that can't see through this garbage, I mean if they are so gung ho on stopping terrorism, why are they such great friends with Saudi Arabia, but Iran is evil for funding Shia terrorists in Iraq? I mean S.A. spends 10 times the money funding Sunni terrorists, and we are such great friends with them? Honestly wake the fuck up.
I certainly notice the difference, now I'm not saying that we NEED over 60FPS what I'm saying is that enthusiasts WANT higher FPS, bragging rights etc... and if we get better frames on XP, then we will use XP, and some games suffer horribly under Vista, ALL the nvidia drivers are bunk, crashing, not keeping the correct refresh rates etc... kinda thought they woulda been vigilant about 3dcard stuff as they have put the whole desktop onto the 3d hardware now...
The only reason I have a windows machine is that I am an avid gaming and gaming hardware fan. I spent ALOT of money on the latest and greatest video cards and motherboards to make my games jump off my monitor. I tweak my system to get the most frames at the highest detail and resolution. My current video cards are 8800 ultra's in SLI and on XP I get an average of 120FPS in 64 player online BF2142 matches, but under Vista this drops to 80FPS and I cannot run two cards in SLI. Now why in the hell would I take this huge of a hit in performance just to have the latest OS? On top of this is the DirectX 10 fiasco, where my new DirectX 10 compatable hardware will only run DX10 on vista, forcing me to upgrade to a lesser (for my purposes) OS. If MS wants to keep the only group of users that MUST use windows, they are going to have to find a way to give us our performance back under Vista, because no gaming geek is EVER going to put up with a DROP in framerates in order to use a new API, as all our efforts go into squeezing out the best numbers in benchmarks and we live to best our buddies in 3dmark scores... do they think I'll just give up and buy a console? (not if I got one for free thank you very much) So as far as I am concerned, until they fix the performance issues and make my SLI work again, I will not let a Vista dvd anywhere near my beloved hardware, not until I am convinced it will give me better performance than I am getting now on my XP machine that I have spent years of my life and thousands of my hard earned dollars (the two 8800 ultra cost me $2600CAN)
And that is the bottom line for me. Thought I should add all this as I never hear anything about gaming and 3d hardware on/. (anyone else find it odd that none of the geeks here are gamers?) Yours Truly The Bionic man.
It looks like they just need some help with the task of writing fiction to keep everyone afraid, and who better than science fiction writers? Now maybe at least they can come up with some fairly plausible terror scenario's, since Sci-Fi writers (at least some of them) TRY to cover the holes in their stories before they release them.

You obviously have had little contact with the police. Once anyone cop in your local department decides they don't like you, EVERY cop is your enemy.
I for one, welcome our new virus created zombie overlords...
