They used the National Security letters a few thousand times against people with no terrorist ties, and are not exactly transparent in much that they do, nevermind that they are taking away the right of people to have their day in court over the warrantless wiretapping that has already gone on, and new allegations of corruption pop up regularly.

First of all, there are a LOT of people with gaming computers... hundreds of them pass through our BF2 server everyday. Which leads me to that game, and the two before it, as well as CS Source (go take a look there are 5 thousand playing right now) and all the mods for these two games, Unreal tourney is not one of the good PC games... its always just been a quake clone for skill less kids to play. I think at this point I have 14 games I play online on this computer and there is no lack of players for any of them. Second, console controllers suck. They just plain don't work for FPS games and barely work for RTS games, aren't upgradable, and tend to die off quickly (especially 360) and the cost of them is MORE than a decent gaming rig, $700 for a console? $200 for a video card that makes most games playable if you not an idiot. There are those of us that spend THOUSANDS on our computer hardware every year, and this douche is bad mouthing his meal ticket? I won't buy another game on this engine or from this company again (none of them were any good anyway)

  18. On Verizon on Is Comcast Heading the Way of the Dinosaur? · · Score: 0

I worked for a number of years for Teletech, who provide technical support for Verizon internet services. Verizon's stance on customers calling in for technical support is this "Get them off the phone in less than 15 minutes" PERIOD. They do not want us to provide help if it takes longer than that, if a consumer calls too often they are labeled according to the frequency of their calls, and agents know upon receiving the call if the consumer is "trouble" (meaning they call to often) or not. The biggest solution to peoples connectivity issues is to tell them "You have a spyware issue you need to resolve" usually they don't, but your job is to basically search the users computer using gotoassist, and find a reason why we don't "support" their particular issue. If a level 2 agent has trouble getting someone off their phone there is an automatic elevation to "tier three" support, who are more skilled at getting customers to disconnect, and will usually submit a "support ticket" which in reality does nothing. The worst of the worst is the choice to use Verizon Yahoo one of the two available portals (the other is MSN premium) A support ticket to fix your Yahoo internet security (doesn't really work at all) or your Yahoo email, doesn't actually go anywhere helpful, in my two years in that particular department I saw very few actual resolutions to problem existing on the yahoo end of the connection, in fact I would sometimes tell people whom I felt sorry for that they have a much better chance of having working email if they go to the other portal (Verizon MSN ugh) or if they simply choose a free webmail account elsewhere. The point I'm making here is that choosing to use verizon internet services is generally not a great idea, as they really don't care whether you actually recieve service, and that they pay people to literally LIE to get you off of the support phone lines to save them some money, and if you cancel your service they really don't care at all as they already have enough new customers to take money from. I quit my position at Teletech the first opportunity I had. The moral there is horrible, no one like to go home at the end of the day feeling like they only screwed some people out of their money all day long. (except maybe Bank employees and government officials) Not completely on topic, but I had to put in my two cent on this.

  19. Re:Four graphics cards! on THG Labs In Depth With AMD Spider · · Score: 0

Not a very reliable way to judge SLI systems, since most of the Source games on steam don't need/allow SLI anyway, my last 4 rigs have had 2X Nvidia cards in them, and I have two running dual cards in this room now. Also MOST ppl don't send their info to Steam when they install, and its pretty much the CSS stress test that gives them their stats, and CSS is not what you would call a high end game. I keep seeing ppl trying to use Steams stats to show that SLI is a failure, when its not even an accurate sampling of gamers, just a small percentage of Counter Strike players. Most people don't choose to send their results to Steam after running the oh so obsolete CSS stress test, which is where these results come from. If no one is running SLI, how come the SLI bundled video cards are always sold out on Newegg and Tiger direct?

  20. Re:I don't see the value on Overclocking the AMD Spider · · Score: 0

Using Steam for info on who is using SLI is not very accurate, Steam is for source game freaks, and alot of them play them because they DON'T have good systems... Counter Strike being the most popular. Source is not really very hard on the graphics card, but since they released COD 4 that is built with SLI in mind, Tiger direct keeps selling out of SLI bundles, and as for the 30% framerate increase, thats the LOW end, its actually 30% to 75% increases. I have a machine running two 7300GT cards on an AMD 3200+ that gets 80FPS in Battlefield 2, so its cheap AND fast, also have a Pentium D with two 8800's that will run Crysis at 50-60fps with the graphics cranked. The market for SLI is not just expensive Quad core high end cards, its another way to build fast cheap gaming systems by linking two older cards together as well. $400 Canadian will get you an SLI barebones that will run current game titles with ease. Also some of us just get excited about building these systems and seeing how far we can push them, I honestly have more fun putting machines together and running benchmarks than I do playing some of the games...
