Here's some of the promises Comcast makes on their latest ad I just got in the mail. Let's see if theres fraud in it...
"PowerBoost(r) makes fast even faster! PowerBoost(r) helps power downloads of large files like videos, music, and games at speeds up to 12 Mbps!"
Now, do I see a "boost" of speed when downloading videos, music, and games (legal ones) from BitTorrent? NO! I NEVER even get a good connection! And at the bottom of the flyer, in that long list of fine print, it says "PowerBoost(r) provides bursts of download and upload speeds for the first 10 MB and 5MB of a file, respectively. So I don't even get PowerBoost for longer than a second! Theres one fraud.
"McAfee(r) Security Suite featuring a series of tools to help keep you, your family, and your home computers safe, protected, and virus-free. A $120 value."
I have McAfee, provided by Comcast, installed on my Windows OS (I use Linux most of the time). Guess what? ANOTHER LIE! Sure, it's free now, but in a year EVERY DAMN time you turn your computer on, McAfee nags you to buy a $120 dollar subscription. MORE FRAUD!
And for their phone service: "Utilizes Comcast's own secure network, not the public Intedrnet, for secure VoIP phone service". So your saying the NSA can't listen in? More fraud...
So 3 counts of fraud on ONE ad! Comcast are going to have a problem defending themselves this time...
I'm so happy! This is not just a victory for Obama, it's a victory for America, for he will surely lead America into the right direction
And wow, 1,300 comments. Thats the most comments I've seen in a LONG time...
Whenever I'm downloading a file off of BitTorrent that's actually seeded okay and gets to a decent speed, no one else (including me) can use the Internet because it lags the hell out of everything. I have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router and Comcast Internet by the way.
I'm stuck with it since I refuse to throw away money on AV programs since I only use Windows for gaming, everything else i use Linux. But stupid McAfee constantly nags me. Download this, updates aviable, update subscription, bla bla bla. And guess what? It HAPPENS DURING GAMES! The stupid option in the Control Panel to not pop up during gaming does NOT work, so whenever McAfee feels like pestering me, Counter Strike lags
Meanwhile, I still have issues with BT...

Now that Concast are trying to show the federal government - not the customers - that they are good, I _still_ have issues with BitTorrent! It still takes over 30 minutes to get a consistent speed greater than 100kbps on a so-called High Speed network! So I will NEVER buy anything that comes out of this service because of what Concast did (completly forbid me from using BT for over 2 years)
Unfortunately, this seems to be a very complicated matter due to the fact that it seems bolth people are at fault. The woman had no business doing what she did, but the girl should have never taken that message so seriously. It's just a sad story of how obsessive some of the worst websites ever invented become for kids who can't find a better use for the Internet.
This lady clearly had some issues if she was pretending to be a teenager looking for a girl online, but can she really be blamed? It's not like she told the girl exactly what to do. This is just an example of why you really need to be careful online, think before you post, and try not to make the Internet your entire life (I'm a computer geek, and even I wouldn't be that obsessed with the Internet)!
I don't see any crime this woman committed, except _maybe_, if they have a good lawyer, stalking. But she should have known not to do what she did. However, the girl who killed herself is equally as responsible. Clearly she had some issues as well...
The most tragic thing here though is that this poor girl's story will be told again and again on TV, in Congress, on Fox News, and turned into an example of why we need Internet censorship and suppression by the politicians.
I'm on Concast in Massachusetts, it takes ~20-30 minutes for most torrent files to even start. For the first 10 minutes after starting, the download rate is usually from 10-25kbps, never going faster. Then, it's stuck on 50-60kbps for 10 minutes, then I finally get to download my file - but very rarely do I get over 200kbps for a download speed...
Took my parents years to get off dial-up and move to Comcast. But I really want Verizon, but those damn idiots told me it will be aviable in my city within 6 months... 3 YEARS AGO! Every time I called they said the same thing, until I figured out that the reason is because our city doesn't have fiber optic cabling and they are to damn cheap to fix it. So we got tired of waiting and got Comcast, but then the whole censorship of BitTorrent started! FiOS is STILL not avaiable in our area yet!
BTW Cape Cod isn't the only area in MA that has no Internet, about a year ago Comcast refused to renew their license with Nantucket (an island off of the cost of MA), so guess what? NO Internet, phone, or cable for the entire island!
This is not possible. From a legal standpoint, if the government goes through the right loopholes to get these laws passed, it's possible, but the consequences it would create would cause nothing but trouble. Almost 50% of the Internet users in Canada would most likely get their first "strike" in just one week because they probably consider anyone using file-sharing "pirates", regardless of the legality of what their downloading. From there, I would predict that about 20% would abide by the warning and stop file-sharing, but 30% would continue regardless of the system until they're eventually taken offline, which would have substantial effects on the economy and e-commerce (not as many people buying things online, for instance).
That's a complete joke! So your telling me that if I download a movie illegally, I'm a danger to "public health, saftey", but if I were to patent a bunch of specific DNA strands in humans, and force scientests to pay milions of dollars for the rights to use the DNA to cure cancer is what, not a public health risk? WTF?
I read a while back that the patent system's corruption is not just affecting the geeks of America, but now even scientests trying to cure deadly dieseses. It's because of a loophole in the patent system that says that since you pass DNA through a machine to extract it, it's no longer "biological material", so it can be patented. So scientests have to worrry about copyright infringment when trying to cure cancer! MILLIONS OF PEOPLE DIE FROM CANCER! How many people die from Infringment?
.. is having a movie star as the governor of Hollywood (California). There should have been a HUGE red flag there! Arnold Schwarzenegger, the current movie star governor of CA, most likely takes piracy personally (although I think it's wrong, I can understand why he would take it personally), so he just lets this injustice happen!
Would you want to see a man who hates black people to be President? Would you want to see a person who hates women to be President?
I'm growing very tired of the bullshit Comcast pull. If they even think about capping my bandwidth (and by the way, I use _well_ over 250gb/mo with online games and large downloads from BitTorrent, ALL LEGAL!), I WILL CANCEL. I will get ALL my family members to quit, and even my neighbors.
I've been doing that for years on my SanDisk MP3 player: downloading the.FLV videos from YouTube and converting them to SanDisk compatible videos. So now you can't do that on the Zune? Wow...
First Post w0000t:)
OMG can that family just back off? It's bad enough that name appears in dozens of conspiracies throughout the 20th century, but now they want to destroy the Internet? Wow, those guys need to get their political power taken away fast........
... that the United States Interet sucks because of big buisness (especially Comcast) who care more for $ than expanding and speeding up the Internet...
That, plus the damn website, which was most likely hosted in the United States, has such poor bandwidth......
Here's the PERFECT solution to showing those politicians in Washington just how fucked up the patenting system is: patent "The act of participating and voting in a Presidential election in the United States", then sue the government for copyright violations! Or better yet, patent "The act of holding a Congressional session"
Wow, now that's strange. First, just seven hours after GTA:IV came out, Fox News goes and does a 10 minute segment on how evil the game is, then Jack Thompson goes and rants to the D.A. about how GTA:IV should be outright banned, now even MADD is getting in on the dirty politics and Communist like censorship? I'm shocked! I expected Fox News and Jack Thompson, but wow, I never saw MADD coming into this!
First of all, I'm a _huge_ supporter of MADD and their efforts to stop drunk driving. I respect that, but requesting to ban a damn video game because it has drunk driving in it is just absurd. We live in a country where alcohol is glamorized on television, movies, and TV. Just watch a football game, you'll see at least 20 beer commercials during the game, WHICH KIDS ARE WATCHING! But suddenly I guess it's a crime against humanity if a video game tries to get in on the action! A game with a clear M rating, which kids under 17 can not buy.
I can see the common argument here, they probably think that kids will say "wow, that looks cool, lets go get drunk and drive in real life". The usual stuff, games make kids try to imitate it. But, this is (somewhat) true with ALL MEDIA! Let's compare the amount of people that have gone bezerk and shot people because they saw it in a video game to the amount of people who try to copy the rappers and celebrities on MTV. I'm sure there are a hell of a lot more (and younger) people copying what they see on television, specifically music, than copying video games.
So it's okay to have dozens of beer commercials on sporting events on TV that kids as young as 6 are watching, but it's illegal for a video game that you must be 17 or older to buy in it? That's just wrong.
I'm shocked this law even got passed to begin with. This is America, _not_ China, we are a democracy, not a Communist country. In America, we do not allow censorship of that nature here (or so I thought). Whoever made that a law in Oregon should go back to history class and learn about censorship and how evil it is...
Secondly, I could just see how many people would be in jail because of this law. Since the law defines 'sexually explicit' very vaguely, it could be assumed that any piece of literature that deals with sex or even so much as suggests it would be justified as 'sexually explicit'. Some of the most well known books ever written would fall in this category! I could come up with a HUGE list of books I've read in middle or high school that would be banned!
I left MySpace after just a month using it. It sucked, period. I can guarantee that since MySpace ALWAYS leaves the door WIDE OPEN for auto register programs and spammers, all a company distributing malware or pr0n with malware in it have to do is automatically generate new accounts for this service. A computer would never pick that up, especially a computer run by the people with the WORST SECURITY EVER!
I use Pidgin on my Fedora computer and Gaim on my Debian computer, mainly for IRC (although I have AIM, but I rarely use it). This is just downright outrageous! OSS should ALWAYS be open, so if you don't like something, JUST TAKE IT OUT YOURSELF! But problems arise when people try being like greedy m$ and locking down the source code...
- "PowerBoost(r) makes fast even faster! PowerBoost(r) helps power downloads of large files like videos, music, and games at speeds up to 12 Mbps!"

One could consider the name "Lala" a infringing on some copyrights, and the desgin of the site is an EXACT copy of last.fm... lawsuit?

That was made in what, the late 1800s? You can't get much older than over 150 years...
It is official. Netcraft now confirms: *BSD is dying Get over it and move on with your lives.....
You can't use words that are copyrighted, product names, or even "Windows", and (oddly enough) "Linux" in an Xbox Live Gamertag or description...
