Because when we shop on the net we're trained to seek out the lowest price, at the expense of quality. And it's not exactly like the places selling dodgy RAM will label it as "Dodgy!".
They could learn a lot from blockbuster UK, in a what not to do sense - I always know what DVD is coming next - it's the one from the bottom of my list!
You don't see the goatse.cx bit in the status bar, because the spaces push it off the right of your screen. Pretty clever, even if it is stealing an idea from another story!
The real battle here is going to be for users, and Microsoft really does have all the cards - Hailstorm is going to be installed by default on 90% of the desktops out there. But if the open alternative can get critical mass, then we're in with a chance!
OSDN must have about half a million users, all the userland sites probably have a few more, so that could be a million users for starters if OSDN links up with userland. Then you just need to add a few corps that have a lot to lose from hailstorm (the AOL userbase would be nice!) and all of a sudden hailstorm is behind the eight ball.
There really is only room for one player in the distributed membership field, so we should do what we can to make it an open system.
Someday this may very well be the best browser in the world.
That could very well be the case. But i'm sure with the threat of an actual 1.0 release on the horizon, the mozilla team will be able to find a few new features to add, and push back the release date another year or two...
Surely this can only benefit the industry

These ring tones always use the most catchy part of the song, and even if it is a cheesy rendition, it can't help but promote the song - when a phone rings on the train that could mean 50 people are forced to listen to it over and over while the phone's owner looks in their bag for the phone.
It's just like radio play, except better, because the people within earshot who have to listen can't change to another station.
they never really gave anything back to the
community they shamelessly exploited in their formative days
So? Arguing that companies have moral duties is totally pointless. When they get something for free, they don't count it as something they have to repay at a later date!
That photo of the Akamai Monitoring System makes me think that they're doing something more than caching web sites - it looks like they could lauch a space invasion from that thing!

Well, I bet he hopes that it wasn't hosted on the cluster!
Anyone know what sort of crazy discount they get? It must be pretty good PR for apple.
Final Cut Studio: US$1299 or GBP£899. Is the exchange rate really 1.44?
and Automator, kind of like applescript that is actually usable.
After the last update, it might pay to let this one sit a few days!

and is it really the killer feature that should be on the apple homepage?
Not nearly as well as it would have done if they could supply enough to match demand, that's for sure.

I've heard music made by reading and writing to a drive - using the right sequence of reads and writes to get the desired rhythm.
How ironic that they bite the dust in the next month.
Can anyone tell me if the platform specific parts of the linux kernal for PPC been written to take advantage of the Altivec instructions?

Come on, that's just asking Microsoft to break the standard...
Looks like things were good from the word go!
Apple even suggests using PPC linux to build beowulf clusters from G4s.

Most people don't even bother to make it work on other platforms. e.g. On Macs it's ctrl-click, so the script doesn't pick it up...
The signal travels at the speed of light, and that 's all there is to it. What counts is how strong the signal is compared to the background noise.
that's the best whoring post i've seen in a while. Links and everything!

AOL Owns the servers. So why can't they do what they like?
