My fast charge on my Gen1 non-XL is fine, and my battery use while the phone is off is much improved... but while using it, I can almost feel it draining.
As someone who runs a large ( >21k) community, "Don't be a dick" doesn't fly. Yes, I would love it if that was the case, because I hate editing / changing / adding rules, but don't be a dick lacks consistency in enforcement. There is too much guesswork in how it is to be enforced - even among my mods, the definition of "Don't be a dick" changes from person to person, and I want them to be able to judge without asking "What would Joe do?" or without me having to get involved all the time.
We have certain rules. They boil down to "Don't be a dick, and here's some things that are really dickish moves so don't do them..."
In large communities, cultural norm swings are huge. Some members will be vastly conservative, some will be incredibly liberal. My own community may be more on the liberal side (photographers, models, designers, &c) but a simple don't be a dick alone is just too wide open to interpretation.
Exactly. I would love to have a phone from another manufacturer that has the software support Pixel has, but without the lousy build quality. The hardware support from Google is so absolutely horrible. The Nexus phones, those were never really marketed as a premium phone, but the Pixels definitely are and Google really needs to do better for their users.
I had 3 of the first gen pixels. All RMAs and returned and replaced before finally getting one that, so far, works fine and has been for a few months. All with random reboot & lockups, microphone & bluetooth issues.
I am a photographer, and admin of groups numbering over 20,000 members. I am also currently in Fb jail because of an image I posted that shows a female and a small amount of pubic hair. No nipple, no bum, no labia.
I use the Google tool with outlook on half a dozen or so Outlook stalwarts here at the office on various levels of Outlook - two way works well enough.
Again, the last one I was blocked for is perfectly acceptable if human eyes look it over. The only thing I can think of is that the clothing worn by the model is very close to her skin tone and Fb is simply using software to scan the images.
Because, according to human eyes the last picture that I was blocked for was perfectly within Facebook community guidelines, yet some reason still triggers the software porn scanners I suppose?
I am a photographer and I am on my second account and 7th temporary post block on Fb for content that allegedly doesn't follow facebook guidelines (the model is wearing flesh(ish?) coloured clothing I guess? I mean.. I guess... boobs can be freaking dangerous, yo.
But oh HELL no, Fb is fiiiiiine with Holocaust denial, and they will even allow it in most countries where it is illegal unless Fb senses a real risk to their advertising dollar.
Really cool concept but they are intending to make portable a platform that is made with PC levels of cheap and easy to expand storage in mind. Many games will be fine with 32GB, but some (I'm looking at you, Wolf New Order and your 40+GB download) would be no go. Unless they are able to build it in such a way that games could be installed on memory cards that are easily swapped. That would be interesting.
Depending on the technology, there are many things to consider before jumping into bed with a WISP. I get my service from an ISP with a wireless division, though it's not their core business. From my understanding, the technology used is a mix of 900Mhz and 2.4Ghz, depending on distance & line of site. The closer and clearer the LoS, the more likely they will put up a 2.4Ghz antenna. Otherwise, it's 900Mhz. Often it requires mounting on an antenna tower, unless it's cellular based.
Problems I've had with it are mostly related to bandwidth saturation. Quite often these wireless PoPs will be piggybacking on one another to a central location, so unless it's properly provisioned, be prepared to be frustrated. Also, many times the WISP will put their tower on a pre-existing structure and depending on security situations, they may not be allowed to go on-site unless the owners of the property are also on-site. Think places like central grain storage co-ops and the like.
My connection is a pretty poor value. I pay roughly CDN$70 for a connection that is, at most, 1Mbit. The upside is that it is synchro, so while my downstream is pretty low, my upstream is better than most. Ping times are all over the place, but that is more a function of an over-subscribed service than anything else.
Cellular based technologies are available here, but the caps are dangerously low with overages being charged at a pretty obscene rate. And it doesn't work with my pre-existing router, which is a big negative for me. Rogers Wireless is I think $25 a month, but that's for only 500MB if memory serves. I can't verify this at present since the Rogers website sucks hairy arse.
Those who would knowingly trust their data to an outside (and relatively untested) organization without having a backup in place are just asking for something like this to happen.
Dogs are dumb, slobbering beasts that make you take them outside to take a shit.
Rather than shitting in (hopefully) a single location and forcing you to clean it up on a near daily basis lest it offend their senses and they decide the clean, but unfolded, laundry would be a better target?
I do have cats, and I tend to think I would rather have cats than dogs. Besides, that is what I have a human spawn for.
Puppies/Human Larvae are cute. One must be ever vigilant to protect your property from puppies/spawn One must clean up the little.... treats left behind. Neither listen well to verbal commands Neither will shovel the drive or mow the lawn
Clearly children are nothing more than hairless dogs that have developed the ability to walk upright.
The parent is flamebait? Wow. Somebody pissed in a mods shreddies this morning? Parent post is absolutely correct on a number of points (even though many have been said before) especially mandating the use of solar tech on all new homes (if feasible, of course. Some locations wouldn't be worth the initial outlay). Not only would this take a significant load from the grid, it would also serve in lowering the price of the technology for those who would like to retrofit their existing houses with the technology.
Putting all of our eggs into the nuclear basket is a bad idea. Putting them into *any* single basket is. These alternatives exist, and in the case of solar, they can be added to houses with very little footprint. There's all sorts of wasted space on the roof of your house, so why not do something with it? Windfarms are indeed impressive, I live about 40km from one (Port Burwell, forget the name of the farm however).
With regards to some of the more sensationalist points in the parent post, they have been mentioned before by well known and well respected publications. National Geographic had an issue on Chernobyl within the past year or so that backed up much of what was said.
Nuclear power should be utilized. It is promising technology and is improving all the time. I am hardly an expert on it, but the reading I've done has shown me that technology is improving at a decent pace, though it would improve far faster if it weren't for the stigma attached to it.

Damn man, yeah I remember you from the Dalnet days when we were mods of one of the channels. Your decent into madness started even back then!
"I find it AMUSING how YOU & "your kind" have to HIDE from me via UNIDENTIFIABLE anonymous"
Yet here you are commenting as AC yourself.
Oddly, you strike me as someone I used to converse with quite a lot a very very long time ago.. First name Andrew I believe..

Absolutely agreed. I don't get it either.

Still, I really do like this phone.
I do this as well. It's a minor annoyance, for sure, but still irksome.
A few from the front page of goog about the AMD Secure Processor. It does, apparently, run its own OS and have its own flash/memory.

Damn it!
I've also been blocked for linking to off-site NSFW content. It's ludicrous!

Because 60% of my business comes from Fb contacts. Without it, I can't pay rent.
Because, according to human eyes the last picture that I was blocked for was perfectly within Facebook community guidelines, yet some reason still triggers the software porn scanners I suppose?
That said, I disagree with any law inhibiting freedom of speech/expression 99.9999% of the time.

Clever!
If you want something done right, do it yourself.
Those who would knowingly trust their data to an outside (and relatively untested) organization without having a backup in place are just asking for something like this to happen.
Oh, ya, backups are hard.
