If they are sniffing your activity then maybe you should think about the security of your own internet browsing, and take into consideration that your computer is compromised with key logging Trojans that send information to an attacker that can easily log into your account and deface your website. Just thought I would point that out. It is probably a lot more difficult to hack a server implant a sniffer and by pass that hosting providers IPS/IDS Devices then to have you go to a malicious site and automatically install a key logger.
...for example, if you let the electrician in the front door, he has free reign to look around to fix the problem unless you've told him to stay out of certain areas.
No, they are only there to fix the issue at hand, and are disallowed from wondering throughout your house 100% freely.
Only under a court issued warrant or under your permission and physical supervision, would they then have permission to your data. That is a severe breach of any Privacy Statement. I would definitely look elsewhere for your hosting needs.
So I switched to Qwest and haven't had any problems.
I worked with QWest with DSL, and their service was extremely crappy and so was their infrastructure. I lived in a place where DSL was new, however, I couldn't get 7Meg Down and 1Meg up because supposedly my lines werent good enough. I knew people up and down my street who got faster then mine, and you know that was checker boarded. Some people couldn't get it, others who did had slow service, and for those who had good service it wasn't enough. Everytime I would call qwest with technical issues with my DSL service, they would try and blame my ISP of choice saying they couldn't handle the speed. I told them I worked at the ISP I picked, and I knew damn well we could handle it. Unfortunately, I couldn't switch because the DSL still went through QWest. And now that Comcast has Digital broadband service many people who I know have switched to Comcast, and are problem free.
I have never had any issues dealing with Comcast Technical Support or Billing. Each time I called, they successfully solved my problems. Maybe the people calling are not answering the right questions or are technically inadequate. Anyone who has worked help desk/technical support know which users I am talking about.
True enough (and no, I'm not the AC/GP), but on a macro scale...
* how much CO2 will get released by transporting the stuff from mine, to mfr. plant, to ocean drop-off points? Simply dumping it at the beach from the end of a really long conveyor belt won't do much good, and would actually do more harm (by turning that locality into a giant caustic soup).
* how much CO2-sequestering plant life has to be cleared away to get at the sheer amount of raw materials needed (e.g. strip-mining)?
You could simply dust the ocean using civilian and military air craft that fly over the Atlantic and the Pacific. The currents would then distribute it.
They probably could if they budgeted it in with their own funds. But instead they tried to use counter-terror funds, were told no, and did it anyway.
They could always use the following excuse: "Our senior staff needs to have certain comfort given to them in the event of a terrorist attack. Also, our senior staff need to have their own comfort capsules when in transport to important meetings at various bases dealing with counter-terrorism issues, and to make sure other bases are following Counter-terrorism measures as outlined in Defense Directive(or some other official statement)."
Its no different then a CO or XO aboard a Naval Vessel to have their own boat to take out on rest and relaxation time. Admirals also have their own boats to take from Command to Boat and Boat to Boat. So why can't the USAF have something similar?
Why not just copy your DNS Configurations to another directory apply the update then move the files back over after the up then service bind start.
Along with having a redundant DNS Server.
First, it's important to clarify that as far as I'm aware, we're not in the business of compromising networks or gaining access to other systems without just cause. When there is a clear threat to security, we then employ legal and just means to deal with that threat. Also, I'm not able to discuss specific methods that we might or might not be employing but only speak in terms of concepts and capabilities that we should have in order to be successful conducting operations in cyberspace. If you have insights and skills that might broaden our capabilities in this arena, I encourage you to consider joining the emerging FIRM cyber-workforce.

Sounds like the recent FISA Law, and Bush's speech towards it.
Everyone except you. I'm barely keeping my head above water financially, and my gf and I (both part-time students with part-time jobs) have a total of 5 desktops...you can find beige boxes in full working order on the footpath, dude.
I also have 2 computers and a lap top at home. I was referring to the not so tech savvy family who use a computer for generic stuff from email, myspace, chatting, and your typical other generic type uses. My wife and i are gamers.
Take into consideration "What if the computer doesn't boot up?" I know quite a few people who only have 1 computer and they are not techy savvy to go out and buy a USB Stick. So where would they store it. Its why computer repair shops exist, and if everyone was computer savvy like most of us here then there would be hardly any need for The Geek Squad, and others.
The best thing to do would be to download and burn an offlineSP3 updater on a good PC, and install that before connecting to the net.
Sadly this is not very well known especially amongst those who need it the most, and MS doesn't go out their way to make it very clear either. So geeks, do your duty and inform those who you suspect could use it.
This would be all fine and dandy and all, but who has access to two computers at home? Work computers do not count as most of them probably do not have burners.

You do know that you can change the color of the background on a BSOD: Changing your BSOD Background
Makes me feel kind of flat.
Maybe their heads are hollow, and think the Earth is hollow as well.
In mother Russia the internet cuts you.
No that means that Command and Conquer 4 has been released with real-life looking graphics. Russia vs Georgia.
The "You must be new here." is also a meme that i Have only seen here at /.

By 11:05am PDT, ..., the system's state cleared.
At 2:57pm PDT, Amazon S3's EU location began successfully completing customer requests.
So WTF happened during the four hours between 11:05AM and 2:57PM?
And... have they learned nothing from the TIBCO fiasco?
They went to lunch and had a nap, what else do you think happened. Some may have even went to play golf.

Taking booth babes away from E3 is like taking bar wenches away from beer shows and the like.
And the geeks and drunks cried out: MOAR BOOTH BABES

Is there any market "Need" for this, to be able to play your games better, or is this simply filling the "uber-leet-most-money-I-can-spend" market?
Sure there is, and the market is the My e-Penis is bigger then yours cause I got 2Gigs of VRAM on my video card :)~~~

The ability to play games designed for use on Windows 95 and Windows 98 only without running in emulation mode.
Hopefully, now that ATI/AMD has released this card maybe now nVidia will come out with something new.
