Yes because those open source guys steal everything they can. Ask SCO, they know it.

Yeah right, BeOS the multimedia OS. There was this sound program which came with BeOS (I actually bought BeOS, I also bought OS/2 - what shall I buy next, it will fail). Just for testing I tried to load a huge wave file and did a little cut and paste and stuff. It was horrible slow and sluggish. The same thing with Windows with Goldwave or any other program was very quick and no problem at all. And playing multiple sound- or videostreams at once was not a problem with Windows. Pure BeOS marketing talk. I think the majority of software which was available for BeOS was not as good as the software for Windows at that time. I really wanted to see BeOS succeed but there was no good software. Not everything was bad but it was not enough.

Apple _had_ to improve things because OSX was UNUSABLE for normal user in version 10.0 and 10.1. Sure if you hate Windows and have to use OSX that's another problem.

Windows was never that slow and they did't need to fix anything Apple had to. And in XP everyone is able to disable all fancy things if they think it's faster without it.

  8. Swapfile of Mac OSX on Is Swap Necessary? · · Score: 1

Does anyone know if the swapfile of OSX still behave like the one in OpenStep? We used to have a very memory eating application on an OpenStep pc and after several days the OS said something like "The swapfile is getting very large (about 1 GB I think), please restart the computer!"

I heard one have to restart OSX after some days of heavy usage because everything gets slower and slower when the swapfile gets bigger. Don't know if it's true, my iBook has not that big uptime.

would be cool. If the OS is on a chip it can not be affected bei 3rd-party software and their drivers or virii or worms. Just turn it on and it runs forever. MS Office lite and some email and web browser should be enough for 90% of those who call me regulary "Help me, my computer is not working anymore!". If something goes wrong, just press the reset button and don't call me.

What sense does it make to have 1 GB storage and only can have attachments of 10 MB? There are freemail accounts with 20 MB attachment size out there and I have for 2,99 a month 50 MB per attachment. What is 10 MB today? Even less because of its base 64 encoding.

The "feeled" speed working with Windows XP is always faster than working with OSfadeinfadeoutX. I can do things twice as fast with Windows XP or OS 9 than with OS X, no matter how fast a G5 is. And if you say this is not so you don't have to work against the clock.

  15. Simple Applescript stopped working after OS update on AppleScript - the Definitive Guide · · Score: 1

I had two simple scripts for turning Airport on and off. After installing 10.3 they stopped working and the syntax for those comands did not change at all.

I also tried to the "create a network" by script but it seems there are no comands for doing that. Millions of things I could tell "Internet connect" application but not simple things like that. Probably I would have to use the beta gui enhancement for Applescript. No thanks, this gui thing is so slow I rather use the trackpad. I gave up on Applescript.
