  3. Bush Didn't Lie About WMD and Regarding Iran on An Inside Look At Iran's Nuclear Program · · Score: 1

Let's get a few things straight about what we've actually learned in the last 5 years.

People in Saddam's own government believed he had WMD's. Why? Saddam wanted people to believe this. Most likely to keep Iran in check.

Saddam didn't have stockpiles of anything, but he had weapons programs ready to go.

Now, what do we know about Iran? They support Hezbollah and Hamas which create instability and murder people in Israel/Palestine and Lebanon.

  4. So if Novell Owns Unix... on SCO's McBride Testifies "Linux Is a copy of UNIX" · · Score: 3, Interesting

If Novel Owns Unix and if SCO got money for Linux and its relationship to Unix-rights, McBride basically said "we need to pay Novel the money we got."

The only reason I can think he said this:

    1) He actually believes it.
    2) He is afraid of fraud charges if he says otherwise. Throw lawsuits into this as well.

  6. So Secretive It Had a Video Game on F-117A Stealth Fighter Retired · · Score: 1

I have fond memories about playing both games as well. First one on Commodore. The second one on a PC clone. It was pretty darn realistic. My best friend and I acted as co-pilots. One of us would fly and shoot. The other would deal with evasive flares, etc.

  7. Re:How many businesses has it allowed though on Free Open Source Software Is Costing Vendors $60 Billion? · · Score: 1

Well, there is less horse crap in the streets. That's a big net positive. Nothing like fecal matter in the streets and poor sanitation to reduce life spans.

  8. Exactly on Free Open Source Software Is Costing Vendors $60 Billion? · · Score: 1

Economics should be viewed in a dynamic way. People and companies saved money and used that money to either save, build an addition to their house, buy an iPod, hire new employees, etc., etc.

  10. What's Microsoft gonna do with no cash? on Yahoo! Rejects Microsoft's Offer, Says 'Still An Option' · · Score: 3, Interesting

When Microsoft burns through all of their cash buying Yahoo, they might be in a whole bunch of trouble. No more ability to absorb losses in business areas when trying to break into a market.

So for this reason. I hope Yahoo accepts the deal.

  11. Algorithms are written by people on To Search Smarter, Find a Person? · · Score: 4, Insightful

People are better at sorting stuff before them. Algorithms, written by people, have a harder time doing what we do intuitively but can sort through more stuff. Algorithms do indeed reflect the wisdom of people, so this is a false dichotomy.

Unless we are talking about Skynet.

  12. On Modern Art on Does It Suck To Be An Engineering Student? · · Score: 2, Insightful

  14. Big Bang Works Well With Theism on The Universe Is 13.73 Billion Years Old · · Score: 1, Interesting

Big Bang cosmology fits in nicely with theism. And as an evangelical, I agree with your view that "day" refers to a long period of time in that context.

I would also say that the Big Bang theory was resisted by atheists who saw its theistic implications.

The Discovery Institute is not a Young Earth Creationist organization. It doesn't even take a position on common descent as many in the Intelligent Design community believe in common descent. So they aren't even a Creationist organization unless you define that term incredible broadly.

  17. Toshiba is right? on Lessons From the HD Format War · · Score: 1

Then what exactly was Toshiba doing this for?

One answer that I've heard was that they didn't care, but they were helping Microsoft out. Microsoft wanted HD-DVD because it would cause Windows Media codec to be standards.

  18. "Anti-immigration" on US Virtual Border Fence Doesn't Work · · Score: 1

Be careful with your language. I know very few people who are anti-immigration. I know tons of people who are anti-illegal immigration.

  19. You joke, but... on US Virtual Border Fence Doesn't Work · · Score: 5, Interesting

It amazes me that the Mexican president encourages illegal immigration into this country and calls those of us who want immigration laws to be followed racist or anti-Latino. All the while, they have stringent immigration laws for those coming to Mexico and are trying to build a fence with Guatemala.

    The chutzpah is unbelievable.

  20. Not based on time on Correcting Misperceptions About Evolution · · Score: 1

The distinction is used because there is indeed variation. Making something preexisting bigger or smaller is not the big deal. Bringing out preexisting, unexpressed genes isn't a big deal.

Unique body plans which require new useful working equipment and information is the big deal. So the argument is that there isn't a basis for the extrapolation. Not "it works over the short-term not the long-term." That's not the argument.

  21. OoL Goes to Materialism on Correcting Misperceptions About Evolution · · Score: 1

From my perspective, it seems Origin of Life theories are excluded from evolution because they are devastating to materialism. The problems with any naturalistic Origin of Life are very serious. There are so many chicken-or-egg problems as to strain credulity. From cell walls, to genetic codes, to metabolism. The minimal complexity and interworking systems needed for life is just too much for naturalism.

Naturalistic Origin of Life theories come down to a faith commitment to naturalism.

  24. PS3 Decision in Retrospect on Toshiba Making Funeral Plans for HD DVD · · Score: 1

While adding Blu-Ray to the PS3 may have hurt Sony in sales, it probably helped them a lot in this format war. Which is why they did it. There were just a lot of Blu-Ray players out there.

Now, if you are going to get a Blu Ray player, you might as well throw in gaming capabilities as well.
