Hurray for vigilante justice. Cause when nobody is being hurt...well that just doesn't sit well with human nature. We need SOMEBODY to suffer. Might as well make it those prostitutes and non-violent drug dealers eh what? There are of course extenuating circumstances. But to take it upon yourself to make someone suffer for their life style?

So say all animals are free. And one day by and by I decide I want some meat. Now if I go out and harpoon myself a deer/cow/pig/slow child, is it still okay? The animals were living happy healthy FREE lives until I, as another animal, decided I was hungry and and tired of eating dirt.

This is an idea I have also been kicking around for several days in my head. There used to be such laws as, if you were African American and you "stepped on a white man's shadow" or looked at his wife too long, you would quickly find yourself facing a tree and a rope. Now we look at these laws and say "How barbaric! We would never do something like that again....Weeeellll, except for you illegal immigrants, non-violent drug users, Muslims, gays, lesbians, political dissidents, and anyone else who looks at us funny...But you African Americans are safe."

If it's simple enough it shouldn't have to be intuitive. I think what the GP was talking about is a simple "put your mark here to vote for this candidate" with a possible "straight ticket" option at the top. Seperate all these options onto different pages with large letters at the top to show you what you're voting for and viola. Insta-election. And I also hate to sound like a jerk but if someone doesn't have the....mental capacity, acuity, or flexability to use whichever system is in use, they shouldn't be voting. I would tell my own grandmother this much less someone else's. The addendum being that if the system is so complex that the majority of people can't use it then you should change the system. You can only make things so simple before you're in the booth with them voting for them.

  13. Sci-Fi is the Answer on Scientist Calls Mars a Terraforming Target · · Score: 0

In the Red Mars, Blue Mars, Green Mars trilogy, it's basically one big series about terraforming. I would suggest a read or quick skim through for anyone interested. There are lichens and such that grow on rocks (some ferrous) and break down the rock for nutrients and live in very harsh conditions. Lichens are most times cold resistant and don't need large quantities of light. In the books they situated the lichens around their windmill/powerplants and let the excess heat warm the plants and help them survive until they had pumped out enough oxygen to warm the environment thus letting the lichen creep out a little more and so on and so forth. The real question comes up when we have to decide if terraforming planets is the way to go. Should we adapt the planet to us or us to the planet? Should we be looking into terraforming or possibly messing with our genome to make us more Mars-resistant (see Metaplanetary)?

What happens when you have enough exploits that you can't take them on a case by case scenario? I know the usual answer is "Scrap the code and start over! It was shite to begin with". What about if the code is already in production? What about if it's vital system software? What if you just fired all the contract coders because you figured the job was done, realized the code was garbage, and don't have enough cash to hire coders to fix it? I think your system has a very well thought out and quite frankly logical process to it. Nicely done. But my only issue comes up when you have massive amounts exploits. Ideas?
