A long time? Ii i remember corectly RDS has been available in Europe for well over 6 years now. The coolest thing i saw with RDS was the Dutch station SkyFM(?) using RDS to do Traffic & Weather reports:) I can't believe the great & all mighty US of A doesn't have RDS yet?
Reading the above posts, it seems to me that the question is not wether the article acuratly describes the stereotypical geek/hacker/coder, but rather:
Why do you all rush to play down those who do not fit this artifical "profile"?
Even a quick flick through the posts from some of the Slashdoters above will reveal that most of them are quick to fit themselves into this stereotype, or play down the people who have said "Well, i don't fit the stereotype". Why is this?
I have always thought that a hacker was a hacker, a geek was a geek etc. When it suits you all, you group everyone of us together as Geeks, and even post hacker dictionary definitions of the word (Which last time i saw it, did not mention anything to do with eating pizza, mountain dew, or working ungodly hours). But sudenly someone decides what they think a geek is, and everyone rushes to pidgeon hole themselves.
Personally, i find it sad that some people feel the need to do this.
Yes, Uri Geller is resident in the UK, and i beleive he may also hold dual nationality. Therefore i should imagine the suit has been filled via. the UK law courts.
don't want my privacy to be ruined, etither, by having credit card, medical,...
What are you on about? What rubbish. I hear this all the time "I wouldn't want to give my credit card details to an internet site, you don't know what will happen to them!", but then they go and hand their card to someone they don't know in a shop.
Guess what happens to your credit card details when you click "Submit"? They goto a script on a server, which does it all automatically. No-one ever sees your card details. It's more secure than any shop i know.
Only 18 Comments? Enough bandwidth for me to download the entire MP3 version of GiS under 3 Minutes? Is no one listening to the much under-rated, briliant witerings of the GiS Crew?
Shame on you all. Start listening, becuase if GiS stops being made, i'll have nothing to entertain me, and i'll join the hot grit's party and start anoying you all!
I mean it, if you havn't listened already, do so now!
I actually thought of something like this, the "Burn AOL CD's" service. You send your AOL CD's to me, and i pile them up and burn them. Thing is, i had this feeling the pile may have got a little large, and i need the fumes wouldn't be at all good.
But then, if you *burried* them, maybe that's a way around it. But then, archeologists thousands of years from now would have to ponder over them...
Yes, i do thanks. But apart from some very very early design ideas, and a couple of first draft white-papers that don't really tell you anything you probably don't already know, i havn't got far.
Still, i'll stick at it. I'm learning a helluva lot about OS design, and hardware. So even if no-one uses it, if i ever finish it, i will still have had fun doing it.:)
I must say, i like the comment Those of you in Europe or UK...
;)
Last time i checked, the UK was in Europe. Although lately i wish we wern't

Hey, I don't have a rot13 button on my webbrowser, and it's Nutscrape on Linux. I had to rot13 that the hard way. ;)
the world's fastest IA86 processor
Not to be pedantic, but i'm sure you mean IA32, or i386...
Yeah, who needs faster CPU's? I use a 4Mhz Z80, and it only takes a week to compile a new Kernel! Why would i want to do anything faster?
But just think now, *you* used to be a newbie too. We all have to start somewhere.

Surely if they wanted to grab the pr0n market, it would be "SexBigTitsWomenNude.com"? Or is that one taken already?
