What the fuck? It's a business conference. They don't want the place filled with freeloading, living at home with mommy script kiddies... It's a place to conduct business. Business involves money whether it's Open Source or not.
Personally, I'm tired of the entire Slashdot mentality...
"Oh no! We have to actually PAY for something!"
Go out into the real world and get out of mom's house and get a fucking clue already. Not everything in life is free - as a matter of fact, most things are not. People out here in the real world have bills to pay and mouthes to feed.
If you're whining about $75 to get in, then don't go. If you can't afford an Ethernet connection to read your Email, too bad - stay home, you have no place in a business conference.
Let's face it you've got no interest in keeping this 'community' together do you? Your just stroking your ego.
Touche' - good point.
If you look at the bottom of articles, you'll see your threshold. By default it's 0 (zero) meaning that you'll see all posts. If you raise your threshold by 1 (one) you will no longer see AC (Anonymous Coward) posts, which get a rating of 0.
Obviously a ploy by Intel aliens to get you to buy more Pentiums when your current one burns out from moisture.
Microwave? Uh, sure... Try "convectional" instead. It would sound like you knew what you were talking about...
Use Junkbuster, and you won't see any of the stupid banner-ads. :)
But hey, use your brains. If the box comes with a WinModem, order a different one. If it comes with something that you don't like, change it.
As for the hardware and such otherwise, I've never had a problem.
I've personally never had any problems with a Dell system, but it seems some folks here have...
I say who cares - a commercial vendor such as Dell selling systems with Linux installed rather than Windoze is a victory in my book!
Let's hope this comes to fruition.
Repeat after me. "Crystal shutter glasses"
If you're gonna use that Windoze shit, you need all the speed you can get. Sorry buddy.
I digress, and agree.
Real men use MIPS. ;>
Yeah, now that would be killer. Boxers with a big Slashdot logo on the back... Right where you can kiss my ass! :)
Why? Just to give it a shot and see how high I could go.
They mean exactly nothing, except for more hits for the awarding site (i.e. free advertising).
I hope they didn't want bug reports too...
Very nice move, Sierra. I'm impressed.
...it wasn't pure O2. I figured they'd run a mixture similar to the "air" down here.
It's got great shielding - and I doubt their going to be running a Webserver or sending video around the LAN up there... ;>
Skylab! Aaaaaeeeeiiiii!
I think would've been a better title for this.
They had can had for a song, some of the Indy, Indigo2 and O2 models.
The point is to go look at Junkbuster. You can filter who you want to accept cookies from. It's not rocket science.
If you're that worried, go use someone elses computer or stay off the Internet. What's the big deal?

Waaaaah.
Here's a clue. Go get junkbuster and selectively enable and disable the sites that you accept cookies from.
Fuckin' A.

Jesus H. Christ. Enough is enough already.
Know the sites you visit.
