    Most of these patents do not actually apply to most of the world, but hobble systems anyway because it is too expensive to do a US and Non-US system ...

    So they have translation which works mostly, the problem is that difference between mostly and correctly is a big step and involves context, which the computer translations struggle with, it;s the difference between and idiot translating mechanically and someone who actually speaks the language

    The problem is context, the solution is AI ...

    If you use Blowfish
    If you use this library
    If you use extended chars in a password

    then sometimes (1/8 chance) a small part of hash is ignored reducing the strength slightly ...

    A lot of if's to not very much effect ...

    ..Different languages are different for a reason, they do different jobs ...

    C# is trying to be the universal very high level language that embraces all paradigms and can be used for everything ...
    C is still a low level language allowing to program low level

    C++ is stuck in the middle and so should cover the ground where you want to abstract away from the machine, but don't want a VM getting in the way, if it moves too far towards C# is will start to be ignored ...

    Both C# and C++ seem to be falling into the trap of Greenspun's Tenth Rule,

    They are not signing your name, they are signing theirs on your behalf

    Why, well they will be collecting information on my spending habits which they can sell and make money from, so how much do I get ?

    I Suspect none - so I will continue to pay cash for small transactions ... In my experience this is also quicker ...!

    So a currency that is not backed by any real wealth (Gold, Silver) but is allowed to float against other currencies, so a fiat currency, but with no central authority so there is no-one to bail it out if there is a loss of confidence ...

    So it's worth what people think it's worth, i.e. completely based on confidence of the purchasers and trust of the sellers, and it's value crashed when people said the system had been broken, just like any other fiat currency, except there is no central authority to bail it out ....

    We are a very large population, and a large number of animals and plants on the planet are grown for our consumption or use

    Yes the majority of Co2 is used by Ocean algae, and they produce the most O2 from it... but the oceans are not getting any larger so the capacity is not changing (in fact it might be reducing as we pollute the oceans and eat the fish etc), and we are reducing most of the other sinks of C02, and increasing the production

    The issue is not that we are the only thing pushing the Co2 balance, or even that we are the major contributor, or we are affecting the major contributor, it's that we are only pushing one way and we are (currently) pushing more and more ...at some point, the system will change to a new equilibrium as it has in the past, this will not kill all life or anything drastic, but our current lifestyles would not be viable any more and our civilisation would be unlikely to survive intact ...

    Small change now, or big change later ...

    This is a Chip that Intel still make and the last new version was released just over a year ago... that may be dying but not dead ... ...If you bought a just released new model of a car just over a year ago, would you be surprised that it was no longer supported ...?

    Why are you distance learning with a UK university, if you are from the UK they they would expect you to have a Region 2 player,no matter where you currently live?

    A US University would almost certainly use American English and terminology and Region 1 encoded material in all cases ... so why do you expect a UK university to be different?

    If the Feds (i.e. the US Federal Agencies) arrive with a warrant then they can *** off, If the UK Police arrive with a warrant that is a different matter

    but the US police have been very unsuccessful at getting warrants unless an actual provable crime has been committed, so it;'s not the same as Google giving in to a fishing expedition from the Feds ...

    Sorry If you live more than 50 miles from work then why are you travelling by car at all ...?

    Unless you are out in the sticks any other means of transport has to be cheaper, even moving closer to work would save you a fortune ?

    Voluntary as in all the ISP have the option of opting in, they do not have to consult with their customers and if the ISP opts in then all the customers are blocked, and have no option but to go to another ISP

    Also Voluntary as in and ISP who decides not to opt in will be hounded until they do ...

    I must be doing something right ... I have never had to do a forced reboot of my main home system, or had to fsck a disk ... ...The only time I have had to do either was with a test install of FreeBSD some years ago, put me off it, and I went back to Linux ...(I have tried it since and it seems much more friendly, but I still prefer some of the Linux Distros)

    I have a shiny new Win 7 machine - and honestly, beyond the prettyness, it does nothing I could not do quicker and less annoyingly on XP ..

    It's slower, and uses more RAM than XP - my old XP machine was only slower due to it's lack of RAM, my Win 7 machine does not seem significantly faster for most tasks, even though it has a faster processor .... Where it excels is when I am running many tasks, the memory management and process management seem to be significantly better

    XP - Will be supported weather MS like it or not - It will run on machines Win7 cannot hope to run on

    IE9 is not a good reason to upgrade, Firefox, Opera, Chrome all run on XP

    iCloud and similar are not a good reason to upgrade, most people do not give a damn about this ...

    Parts of the Creative industry do not have copyright or Patents at all ... The fashion industry , they are almost totally US/Europe based outsource most of their production the the far east, and seem to be doing very well ...

    It is a myth that the creative industries would not survive without Copyright and Patents, they do already, the only downside for the fashion industry it they have to keep innovating, constantly, "That's so last year.." was invented by the fashion industry for a reason ..

    Note fashion houses/designers copy each other, the public, students etc.. and the high street stores copy the fashion designs with cheaper materials, and pay the fashion house little or nothing, but the designers still make plenty of money ...
