I've said this before, and I'll say it again. Registrars are a big part of the spam problem. And the fact that they will sell (or provide freely) registration obfuscation services to withhold meaningful registrant contact data shows that many registrars are still in bed with the criminal spammers.
Come on, if you really have some reason to keep your registration data private, there are better ways to do it than letting your registrar do it for you. You could just as well get a PO box and use a free email account somewhere, which would accomplish the same thing but still have some degree of accountability. As it is, registrars have been able to withhold the contact information for their clients and there's been no accountability anywhere.
Anybody else remember the hoo-hah that came up regarding the bogus reporter that gained white house press access under "Talon News"?
Their chief correspondent, "Jeff Gannon", turned out later to be a complete fake (and a male prostitute at that). I find it interesting that the bogus news agency has a similar name to the overbearing government database.
It generally refers to gene regulation via mechanisms beyond DNA sequence. A good example of this is what is called "x chromosome silencing" in all women. While women have two equivalent X chromosomes, one is "permanently silenced" during very early development. This ensures that all of the woman's cells will read X chromosome genes from the same chromosome. No pattern for this has been demonstrated, to the best of my knowledge (as far as favoring paternal vs maternal or anything of that nature).
A more complicated epigenetic mechanism is via the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Histone_code/. While the code itself is still very much under investigation, it has shown many important traits in gene expression as time and conditions vary for an organism.
I also thought it was interesting that a paper on potential extra-galactic triggers for extinction came from a state that is still trying to ban evolution from its primary school teachings...
Yes, but it emacs can run vi...
Then we should be able to right emacs macros that run pico inside of vi running in emacs. That would have to make everyone happy, right?
New technology should be something that can be implemented, not just something that is sold. Sony didn't do anything new with this laptop - they just combined a bunch of technology that is already on the market and sold it. Now if they had made a unique hard drive for the system, and then shown how with that unique hard drive the system that could otherwise only do A,B,C can now do A,B,C,D, and E, then that would be new technology.
I'd expect that other, lesser known, companies have already implemented this, and just didn't have as good of a PR machine behind it.
For that matter, isn't Sony on our list of evil companies (with others such as Microsoft) after the rootkits they placed on their audio CDs? Why are we running ads to bring business to them? What's next, an article singing the praises of Vista?
Yeah, that's a single sentence. I recall King George of England scripted a similarly beautiful piece of writing in response to the colonies threatening to declare independence from Britain.
That King George was later known for having lengthy conversations with trees...
just like tax cuts, military funding, and immigration control are part of the conservative agenda Except that military funding was increased under both Clinton and Carter, as well. So as much as Bushco likes to claim the military as their own, the facts show otherwise.
And as for immigration control, I'm not sure how you can claim that to go to either side. It wasn't exactly top priority for Bush senior or Reagan, the Mexican border has been decaying for a long time...
So that just leaves you with tax cuts. Thanks for playing!
I'm amazed that this is not the straw that breaks the camel's back. We've seen all kinds of illegal shenanigans from this administration, and now they just outright endorsed criminal activity to further their own agenda.
At what point will people actually take action against this criminal? Are we so complacent now that we won't do anything until he nukes Boston?
You may find some insight at the top supercomputer list: http://top500.org/.
In particular, you can see that the supercomputers from 10-15 years ago are roughly equivalent in power to the average laptop on the market today.
Apple and AT&T today announced service plans for iPhone, 4 days before its release in the US at 6pm local time on Friday, June 29 Today is the 26th. Unless you are working with some alternate calendaring system, its only three days from now to the 29th.

I'll take off my tinfoil hat now and shut up.
You'll have us all confused with your vast knowledge soon if you don't start dumbing this down to our level...
The term you are looking for is "epigenetics".

It seems highly improbable that you could ever guarantee that...

Imagine a Beowulf cluster of those!

Someday I will be trusted to tag stories on my own... Until then, where the 'slashvertisement' tag for this story?
I believe the emergency of May 2003 was the potential resurgence of democracy in America in 2004. Thankfully, they squashed that resurgence.
Since I can't, else I'd say +3, f***in' hilarious
Anyone? I'm not sure why its news ...

Anybody?
As their webserver smolders in ruins and I lack the credentials to apply it to the story myself...

Really... Is there some reason why we didn't expect this?

Apparently cyber-terrorism isn't important then?
