If a game came out that portrayed the US Government as a malevolent system ... I think that US gameplayers and the US Government might have some objections

Sure they might have some objections. There would almost certainly be objections. However, despite those objections, our constitution does not allow our government to censor speech. (First amendment to the US Contitution protects the free speech of US Citizens.)

Yes that's funny, but what's really funny is the way that people (e.g. people who self-identify as belonging to a particular geographical region) generalize other people of whom they actually know little about. Yes, the majority of US Citizens are more or less ignorant of world affairs, but then so is much of the rest of the world. Or at least one can say that ignorance is a general symptom of humanity and manifests itself in diverse ways among all of Earth's peoples.

OR MAYBE YOU DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO PAY EXORBITANT PRICES FOR COMMERCIAL SOFTWARE!! But who cares, software pirates are all baby murderers, anyway, right?

Right, that's why I included an "if" in my suggestion. *If* another OS, especially a free one, can do what the users need, then he can switch them to that OS and avoid a lot of headache. They can use online tax software instead of Quicken. The rare website that doesn't work under Linux is either unfixable (so that's an easy call ;), or fixing it will be far less time consuming than reformatting a windows box. There's Banshee to replace iTunes. There's GIMP to replace Photoshop. There are consoles for games. Seriously, what hardware are they going to want to use that Linux doesn't support? There may have to be compromises, and I see your point, but it's a generalization to say that switching them to another OS won't solve his problem - it may or it may not.
