I don't agree that Java has many exploits--I think we cant count the serious ones on two hands in almost twenty years. I do agree that Java 6/7 has been a real cluster compared with the stability of the JRE during Sun's time.

I blame the browsers. They control the environment and are more than capable of sandboxing applets and restricting access for certain APIs until the user has authorized them.

Indeed, you must admit to yourself that you do not like working out. sometimes you just go to the gym telling yourself that you are not going to do anything (you know, like the free-weight guys) just hang out. Once you get there you always do something though, unless you hang out around the free-weights all day and bullshit.

The 30-30 rule: After 30 minutes of sitting you must get up for at least 30 seconds and stretch. Look up ergonomics for the office and practice good eating habits. I recently sat with an ergonomics expert and nutritionist. I was feeling dead at the end of the day--taking naps when I got home--and generally run down and old. At 34 I knew this wasn't right so I brought it up to him. He said I was running out of gas because I wasn't eating enough! I was essentially starving myself by only eating twice a day which was preventing me from losing weight (I work out at the gym 2-3 times a week) and it was making me feel dead. As soon as I started eating small protein rich meals every two hours with a cutoff of 7pm per his recommendations I came to life instantly. He said It would make me feel like crap the first week or two but it didn't. I started dropping weight immediately, visiting the restroom more often and I felt like and still feel like a warrior. Complete change. He told me that everyone who works in an office sits wrong, far too long, and they eat horrible diets. Stay away from fast food and heavy meals all together. Don't forget to hit the gym or strap on the running shoes a few times a week!

Becasue none of the candidates wanted to talk about their "accomplishments" which would have certainly led to their blatant incompetencay and failures. Romney technically was the better choice but no one wants to debate technical merit as has been pointed out. In all seriousness you need a practical business man to head the government becasue their leadership and ability to make decisions has been proven, everything else is but the flip of a coin. Instead we got inbroiled in class warfare which Obama stoked and continues to stoke. This is not leadership, it is devisive and irresponsible. Perception still rules the day--forget facts.

It has nothing to do with productivity, it has to do with information security. Usually, smartphones naturally wring more work out of employees. When you invest millions of dollars in collecting and analyzing data and generating a report that can be lifted by taking a picture (assuming other data control procedures are in place and working), you have a valid concern over smartphones floating around your premises. Data tends to end up everywhere. Now imagine you have a report that teams of people have developed over a two year period that contain the essence of your competitive advantage. Do you want smartphones hovering around when you have restricted access to that report, locked out usb devices, blocked unauthorized email access, password protected/encrypted the report files, and locked down the collaboration system? All of that is for naught when an unauthorized or authorized person clicks a few pics with their phone.

Hell, I saw a few strange Hell's Angles roll in one day close to my house and that was enough to grab my sidearm and chamber a round. I have had hippie anti-gun nuts come beg me for a firearm when faced with a similar situation, so the cognitive dissonance goes both ways and reality often rules they day when it comes to such matters as having to actually protect yourself from possible immediate violence. In places with these kinds of issues you can see a cop's hands and voice tremble when they realize they just got mixed up with a biker (gang member)--and they summarily limp away. It must be nice that the Newspaper can afford to pay mercenaries to handle their perceived problems but out in the real world your safety is your responsibility--the cops get there after all is said and done to file paperwork and shake their heads about the poor schmuck that got beaten/killed/raped/robbed.

Like any smart person who cares to research what they are buying on Amazon just go straight to the 1-2 star reviews and start reading. For technical books I look at the ratio of 4 star to 1-2 star reviews and then read through the reviews at the extremes. If people rate it low and can't provide a reason why or list another book that is far superior then I just ignore their review. There is usually enough data present to make a better decision than trolling through a B&N that has no reviews. I have several shelves full of technical books purchased from Amazon and I have always received exactly what I expected and needed. It works perfectly compared to buying garbage that wastes my time and money and getting stuck with it. I think certain people are bitching because they can't pawn their crap off on thousands and thousands of people through marketing like they used to. Now you can get a heads-up on amazon and avoid wasting your money.

I could handle Unity, that wasn't really the problem but I do need my keyboard to work, barcode scanner, GUI, video, sound--oh yeah and my NIC to stay connected to the damn network. I'm sure a lot of people don't have any problem, but they are probably using the 32bit (recommended) distro and I'm not about to shirk half of my hardware just so I can run the stable version. This three month long episode caused me to fall in love with Windows 7.
