Just for fun; get your camera manual and read what it says.

Sure, Mpeg-LA publicaly stated that they would not sue you or take you data, but it _does_ belong to them. And right now you might not need a license. Sure you're totaly right.

But to call this debunked? I wouldn't. I couldn't. I could and would not because whenever Mpeg-LA changes their mind then you don't have a single something to stand on.

    Three characters:
    1. M
    2. P
    3. 3

    Does that ring a bell?

And not to piss of Germans, because they have nothing to do with the past, and not to compare Mpeg-LA with mass murder and hate crimes against humanity, but if Hitler would have told Stalin that "I will not try to screw you. Realy you have my word!" then would you have bet on that?

Now that there is Ogg, WebM, HTML5 video, the 'Ubuntu' video editor for Gnome and the Kdenlive video editor for KDE4, all HD camera's are still recording to h.264 by default.

This is a huge problem for free software because it not only involves patents when dealing with h.264, but also a license.

Now you might think: *yeah well license... bla bla bla bla bla. Free software doesn't concern me.* But if you knew what kind of a threat this poses not only to free software, but also to you; you'd be very, _VERY_ concerned. (unless you wouldn't mind George Orwell scenarios, but in any case you asked what the problem was...)

You see the license you get with your camera, even expensive proffesional camera's, basically sais; all your base are belong to Mpeg-LA, even when converted to another format. This sucks, but oh well you can alsways buy a different camera because capitalism rules! But in this case it doesn't; try finding HD camera's that do not shoot in h.264 first.

Wait... You have never, _NEVER_ heared this song?!

In the beginning, there was Jack, and Jack had a groove.

And from this groove came the groove of all grooves.

And while one day viciously throwing down on his box, Jack boldy declared,

    "Let there be HOUSE!"

    and house music was born.

    "I am, you see,

    I am

the creator, and this is my house!

And, in my house there is ONLY house music.

But, I am not so selfish because once you enter my house it then becomes OUR house and OUR house music!"

And, you see, no one man owns house because house music is a universal language, spoken and understood by all.

You see, house is a feeling that no one can understand really unless you're deep into the vibe of house.

House is an uncontrollable desire to jack your body.

And, as I told you before, this is our house and our house music.

And in every house, you understand, there is a keeper.

And, in this house, the keeper is Jack.

Now some of you who might wonder,

"Who is Jack, and what is it that Jack does?"

Jack is the one who gives you the power to jack your body!

Jack is the one who gives you the power to do the snake.

Jack is the one who gives you the key to the wiggly worm.

Jack is the one who learns you how to walk your body.

Jack is the one that can bring nations and nations of all Jackers together under one house.

You may be black, you may be white; you may be Jew or Gentile. It don't make a difference in OUR House.

    And this is fresh.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FXSSaiT78Y&feature=related

But it is not suprising that you haven't heared about house music in France, because the French government dictated that there should only be French spoken music on the radio. It is sad that you didn't go to Berlin instead. Paris isn't what it was. All creative artists have long gone Berlin is now the epic centre of art.

    Moscow isn't that exciting either.

House soon became an umbrella term for all sorts of other music that evolved out of it. Around the beginning of the new milenium Hardhouse was mixed with Oldstyke and Acid in Amsterdam and became Hardstyle. Hardstyle in itself has evolved into an unrecognisable form and people from all around the world came to the Netherlands ("Holland") for the events. It has currently even spread to Australia and is widely popular. There have also been some German Harstyle songs that were hits on MTV, like for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgws-9Xqul4

Scooter, for example (part of your education, IMHO) was also influenced by it.

And I hope the current industry dies. Nobody gives a shit about 'HD gaming'. If I could buy a game at $20 instead of $69,99 I would absolutely love that!

Games these day suck! Yesterday I installed GLDoom again and finnished Doom in a few hours. You know what? That was fun! Wanna know why?

Games these day are made to entertain you. "Ooooh! A giant train just fel down besides me because the bridge blew up! Cool! I can't entertain myself! See? Now I have to buy a sequel!"

Games from back in the day were all about giving you something to entertain yourselve with! High scores, puzzles, 30 monsters comming right at you and see if you can manage to kill them all before they kill you.

Today everybody must buy 30 games per month because games these days are not played by you, but for you. So when the interactive movie is over you have to get a new one, because replaying it will just be exactly the same predictable 'experience' and after one or two 'play'throughs you've pretty much seen it.

So yes, as a gamer frim the first hour I definately wish that the current industry dies and some innovative startups, like id software and 3DRealms once were, will take over and redefine gaming.

This will also be the death of the Windows gaming platform. In order for indies to earn as much as they can they almost always make Mac and Linux ports too. So that will result in bettere OS adoption too.

    Let it rain!

Very simple; it doesn't take a lot of time and manpower (one person) to create a feature complete driver that can get at 70% of fglrx'/Catalysts's performance of the card. However if you want to squeeze more and more performance out of these cards (remember: make them more optimized because they are already stressed to the max) then more and more people are needed to work at it, just to optimize the hell out of it. It is in these insanely complicated crazy optimizations that nVidia and AMD|Ati get the most of the performance of the card, because nVidia and AMD|Ati cards are about the same performance.

The open source drivers are expected to get 70% of the total performance of Catalyst/fglrx. However 2D has always been much faster with the floss drivers. The drivers are also much more stable, integrated and polished. Gallium now also has LLVM to optimize performance. Playing previous generation games like Prey and Half-Life 2 is not a problem.

Furthermore, down the road, due to Gallium, it will also accelerate stuff like OpenVG.
