Delusional? No wonder you got modded Funny... I give you till the end of time to think about something that locks people even more into product than that. It's ten times worse than having an email account (giving your email address to, for you, important people for about 10 years and not having theirs anymore to mail them that you have changed to a different email account that you don't have to pay for (try forwarding anything to your new email account from your old one that you need to pay for, by abandoning it))
Yup... it is called marketing and huge fcking piles of money. Competition? Whohoo! In it's modern form it sooooo beneficial for consumers. I mean... look at Windows... Don't you love the slowness, bugs, holes, user-unfriendlyness and lacking features of any Windows version ever released?
Totally didn't read something like that one year ago... probably on/....
I had just explained this to my dad when he brought up a theory posted in some Dutch newspaper (called Volkskrant for those who live in the Netherlands) before reading this.
Those whom brains are hurting (tag) clearly are not familiar with even the basics of Einsteins theories.
Windows Vista that doesn't accept being offline and can store apps in a proprietary XML like format that you can display with 'the advanced and intergrated new exiting underlining technology MS has developed and maybe patented' *cough*aka IE8 extension for offline pages*cough*.
Sounds like something even I could have made by adding and removing some stuff in Ubuntu and remaster the image...
"If the owner dissapears or goes bankrupt, you'll be unable to use your purchased content"
Simply not true. Valve has tested in-house patches for when they go bankrupt. They will work with the retail dvd's you purchased in a RL shop. I don't know if this works with backup game content (option in Steam to back up the map of your games) through Steam.
But Valve said that they have tested in-house patches for their own games on Steam so that when Steam/Valve goes bankrupt they can release the patches so you don't require Steam and internet in the future. This is not the case with games on Steam that are not made my Valve.
They talk about ignoring every unconscious standard regulations of the brain. They say they do not want to be part of evolution. That collides heavily with what is generally accepted by 'normal' people. Therefore it makes one 'sick'.
So basically they are doing what you'll probably want though: achieving real choice. Really making your own decisions, instead of letting 'hardwired by evolution' do it for you.
You may not want to accept it but Nature (as in the mag) had posted an article a while back that concludes that everything you 'decide' to do, your unconcious/instinct has already done it for you 10 seconds ago.
So this kind of thinking makes me very interested. It however will turn you into the ultimate society-reject/tool because there is no way you can function along with it by thinking this way.
Well I couldn't say "anti free softwarer" because that sounded like crap, just open source because the Mac OS X kernel is open source or *BSD because Mac OS X is somewhat like a BSD:)
Well I am a MS hater too. For various legitimate reasons...
But I seriously can't believe that a version of Windows server, newer than 2000, caused:
1) A total stock exchange crash (you'd think that in a critical environment like that they'd at least have some sort of fullback system)
2) A crash that lasted that long because it was simply running Windows.
You'd also think that MS would know that their OS is not as stable as Linux and therefore would have put some serious effort into this 'commercial' in order to never have their OS crashes taking down the entire stock exchange...
Coca Cola Zero is only 'unhealthy' when you drink about 2L of it in a day. Sweeteners cause diarrhea, but that's all.
Mind the tea too. Take bastard sugar instead of regular sugar. Normal sugar makes your insulin levels rise, which is going to result in more fat, but it takes two hours for the insulin to disappear, so you'll get hungry for more sugar, so your insulin levels are rising higher and higher, making you even more hungry for sugar, etc, etc. That is where the "Once I start eating [sugar food] I just can't stop" comes from. Bastard sugar stays in your blood for allmost the entire day, so you aren't getting even more hungry.
But that's not all... When you are drinking sugar than your kidney gets 'upset' from all the sugar and wants it 'cleaned', which means you'll get thirsty so you can 'wash it away' with water. But instead of drinking water, most people drink sugarwater (soda or tea with regular sugar), etc, etc.
If I am sitting behind my PC I sometimes do not smoke, drink and eat for 6 hours straight. It's not that I'm addicted to computers, but my brain is too occupied with a set of pixels that it forgets about everything else (hence why I am running all kinds of social apps on my pc).
Because I am not doing anything physically behind my pc my appetite isn't that large either.
If fat is such a big deal then do physical exercises (sport, skateboarding, jogging).
If health is also important than eat healthy instead of going to the [insert favorite junkfood restaurant here]...
Loosing weight by eating less is not going to work. It is better to eat much (preferably also healthy) stuff (replace you Coca Cola bottles with Coca Cola Zero or Pepsi max or whatever you like) and engage in physical demanding activities.
Buy a simlock-free phone. Huh, wat? Yes, you've read that correctly... it's cheaper. Do it online where the phone you desire is the cheapest. Then also order a 'subscription' (damn English is not my native language) that is not tied to the phone by default. Calculate how long and therefore how much money you have to cough up during lengths of the contracts. Now pick the AT&T one that is equal or less than the amount of money that you're phone costs without a subscription. Do $Price_of_phone - $Total_amount_of_money_that_your_contract_will_cost_over_time.
Why?:
1) You can pick any phone that you like, even if it's outside of AT&T's offering
2) If you pick a phone from a webshop it is cheaper than what everyone offers, inclusing AT&T
3) 'Free' phones are calculated like this:
$Overrated_pricetags_of_phones_that_are_even_simlocked_and_bricked - $Total_price_of_subscription_that_is_more_expensive_to_make_the_phone_'free'_instead_of_letting_you_pay-less_for_the_total_price_of_ownership/use_and_an_additional_30_dollars_or_so
4) ^You buy a phone and you get a subscription for free and the total cost of ownership is way less than avarage
5) If this is not enough reasons for you than you should also know that a 'free' phone that cost $20/month gets you less ''free' call minutes' than a standard, $20-without-a-phone-subscription.
"This is probably one of the last noticeable sub-atomic discoveries made somewhere else than at CERN since LHC is about to start the hunt for the Higgs particle that remains elusive even for the experiment that just discovered the Omega-sub-b.."
Simplified:
This [sub-atomic discovery] is probably the last noticeable discovery that is going to be made outside of CERN. This is because, as you get more into 'deep' with science, particles are getting smaller and smaller and in order to discover them you need more and more money and bigger and bigger 'devices' (like the LHC). That means that only if you are as large and well-funded as CERN you can still make new discoveries on this particular front of science.
You read it wrong. He points at people with autism.
Which is quite strange though... because in my honest opinion autism is bullshit. Autism is not a social defect. In fact, everyone here with 'autism' that came to/. and comment here are engaging on the purest form of social activity.
First of all, as we say it in dutch, 'kinds of people searching same kind of people'. This means that you are already trying to become part of a group that's at least somewhat like you, no matter in what way that might be, or at least share your interests. Secondly, you are responding to other people and they respond back to you. This means you are engaging in social activity.
What might hinder people with autism is that they don't receive social signals. That is because you are missing receptors for social signals in your brain. It can be easily overcome though. It's like hardware video acceleration in your computers graphics card; If you don't have hardware acceleration then you must install a software accelerated program and run it. If you don't automatically know when someone is smiling, like many people with autism have, but can learn that a mathematical curve A means J and curve B means K than you can learn that a particular shape of someones mouth can represent a particular emotion. You can learn what types of emotions there are and when you know that you can read out peoples mental state (angry, happy, hollow).
After you did that you can use that for social interaction. Social rules change with the times and are not hardwired to your brain so everyone needs to learn them, even those without autism. So what you need to do is face your fears (it's the only way you can overcome fears) and trial&error what people like and what they don't like.
If you live in the Netherlands and close to Amsterdam I am willing to learn you all about it, for free.
I have been quite autistic in the past (until the age of 12 I have avoided social interaction and have only been playing with toys, computers and consoles). I couldn't understand hints and sarcasm. And one day when I've had it with sitting behind my computer all day out of getting bored and was slowly learning everything I could from social interaction. Right now I am among the most popular guys in my class and got a lot of attention from girls.
I have no clue whatsoever about my bandwith usage. I think it's not even that much higher than any 'avarage' household.
What do I do through the internet:
-Downloading a few songs onces in a while
-Browsing (going through email, listen to some music on YouTube when I'm too lazy to download it, reading/. and site alike)
-Messaging (rarely using the webcam)
-Downloading one Linux distro per month on avarage
-Updating my Linux install and downloading some packages per week
-Downloading and playing Valve games through Steam online with wine
-Downloading one film per 2 months on average.
I think that's about it... My dad and his girlfriend use the internet every 3-4 days and are only checking their email and doing bank stuff online. My dad rarely downloads a few song. Oh yeah they have Windows XP so updates are also nopt very common...
High speed, can't live without it. No Opera's performance sucks when it comes to website cluttered with flash (banners, networking sites with youtube stuff) and promotional website (flash banners and 'controls' and Quicktime plugins and whatnot) compared to FF3. It is also full with a shitload of bugs that are less annoying than FF3 ones.
If you download your ass of and you don't want to delete your porn, games, movies (BluRay) and music (uncompressed) and your hdd/ssd' are in raid formation so that they back each other up with a journaling filesystem and they are partitioned for all your Linux/*BSD/Windows distros and you have never thrown a single file away because you back everything up and place it all back after a cleaaan install... I think you are going to want to have petabyte storage capacity.
... Start an ISP company that doesn't have bandwith caps at a cheaper price and conquer the entire American market for access to the internet.
Capitalism FTW...

It shuts down that which is unexpected. A clever mind could easily copy behavior of heavy, common root pogram and *BOOM!*... hello private files...
Steam is DRM...
But Valve said that they have tested in-house patches for their own games on Steam so that when Steam/Valve goes bankrupt they can release the patches so you don't require Steam and internet in the future. This is not the case with games on Steam that are not made my Valve.

Ok, now my head is exploding...
Expect shootouts with lasers...

Almost no known company or public school ever used ODF instead of DOC when ODF was ISO standard... So much for the standards commission...
That's exactly what I was thinking!
Proving they were really about to spend the money.... Maybe now other companies will be convinced by letting MS become their overlord in the future.
"Do you see how much money you could have gotten, eh?"
Don't you even dare to considder anything besides Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD and DragonBSD you anti-open sourcer!
Burning thou shallt, in the fires of hell!
