The FSF needs to alter it's plans for Defective By Design and broadcast a commercial on television, or something like that. They have a shitload of money, so let the mainstream know about this. Whatever they do, they need big publicity for this issue. Our daily lives ride on hard- and software, our very infrastructure is built on it, so FLOSS gets more important every day. This is not just me being a open source fanboy, this is realy important.

  7. Re:Great, how about focusing on the real power dra on MSI Develops a Heat-Driven Cooler · · Score: 1

A CPU manufacturer always needs to have a faster CPU than their competition. So it's speed first, efficiency later. The latest and greatest CPU will be fabbed in large amounts, so it cuts the costs. These large amounts of pwnage CPUs all need to be sold, and selling them is easy because the best CPU now can still be sold as mediocre CPU later. When you fab a mediocre efficient CPU you can only sell it at a later time as garbage CPU so this is risky. Not to mention you cannot sell the once-it-was-the-best-CPU anymore because there are also efficient ones now.

  9. Finally... on Blu-ray In Laptops Could Be Hard On Batteries · · Score: 0

Now laptop manufacturers are forced to develop batteries that last longer because every laptop in at least midrange needs to be able to play movies. That means that these batteries will also become available at midrange prices. Ofcourse everybody here will RIP the BR discs on AC power and play them underway so unless you're stupid this isn't a problem.
