In every linux distro I have used, the basic filesystem is always the same, of course there might be some extra directories, like/srv in openSuSE, but the basic filesytem is always the same
So you believe out of the entire universe there is not even bacteria on a planet besides earth and in the whole time the universe has been around either? as unlikely as extraterrestrial life is, IMHO, thats more unlikely
I would at least want my computer to be stable over having bleeding edge packages, if your computer is crashing every 5 minutes because of you having the newest packages, then it doesn't make much sense to use it
Well considering that slackware's newest release was well before ff3 release and they don't package beta software with it, of course they don't have it. Actually, Slackware 12.1 has newer software then debian stable, so I wouldn't call it being ancient.
To the GP, check out Rworkman's kde 4 packages
You are wrong about no major distros using kde. I would consider mandriva a major distro and it uses kde by default. Slackware is another major distro and it has used kde by default for years
The difference is, that you don't have to have kde installed in your distro and you don't have to have any web browser installed in any linux distro. I don't see anything in linux breaking if you don't have firefox installed, for example
not necessarily, I would say that ubuntu is ONE of the most usable for new linux users, but its not the most usable for new linux users. Its like saying X is the best operating system, there is no best.
For example, if Red Hat supplied the OS and it crashes let say, then the hospital would obviously sue Red Hat because they are responsible for the final testing and they are supposed to make sure it works.

Actually most linux distros can read/write ntfs now
I can't imagine my mom setting up wireless on any operating system by herself

don't complain about the *buntus and call it kde's fault. The KDE project has no control over what wifi manager ubuntu has.

old does not mean bad, same as new does not mean good
I didn't even think people used Mandrake now a days

Ubuntu != all linux distros
Its not all that easy to just switch ISPs in some parts of the world, I know there is lots of places in the us that only have comcast
I was just going to say that ;)
I think your sarcasm detector is not working today
You must be new here
No, we need emacs, because then we just need a text editor ;)
Thats why you can you add repos
There are programs like apt and yum that find dependencies for you they have been around for awhile
copy right infringement != stealing
not kids that go on slashdot
We don't like yellowface, do we, my precious

so they did this because you use morphine in the game?, you would think it would be something alot worse
