But still the ones who doing the real stuff on the pitch are human; 25 of them. It is impossible to de(rive|vise) a relatively accurate mathematical model(s) on what going to happen minute-by-minute.
Well that's why even the likes of Slovakia can roll over Italy, Holland to Brazil, South Korea to Italy, and every other underdogs trashing big-names games. With the insistence of FIFA towards, basically encouraging, drama is why the game is so damn addictive to many people.

That's why if you value things such as skill, team work, determination (and other things that many people attribute to football) you are likely to fall in love with the game.

So what? This year your big-name team defeated by an underdogs? well there's always next years (or four years for WC). Even with those shocking results the fans still lining up in great expectation for the next season, with dreams of what to come with new players coming in from the transfer market or local talents "stepping up" to the game.
If the game can be predicted even with a-rather-good accuracy we'll see games "played" by analysts and numbers crunching experts instead of players running, wailing, **cough**diving**cough**, getting bruised, injured, fouled in the process. So much with nurturing talent, buying players, training, and prep-talk; just bribe some math-wizard to come up with smelly statistic to favor our team and call it a day.
Don't be fooled, all that prediction is going to pay for themselves anyway. Match-prediction pundits/"experts" are there to sell commercials and corporations prediction are to sell their products, as evident in this case.

- Run a study on user-usability: OSS can hire or contract an established and well-known 'GUI usability' expert/company and let every top OSS products that directly used by the end user to consult to them.
- Embrace.NET, and create a version that add more functionality, features and 'cool stuff' and make sure anything that written on this version wont compile out-of-the box on VS from Microsoft.
- Ms. Exchange?
- More GUI for everything: Stop forcing us to edit some shady configuration file.
- Out of box Linux distro should be just like Windows': Just some basic programs (notepad, file manager, paint, etc.), but packed with more drivers for lots of stuff.
We don't need amaroK, MPlayer, tvtime, Gimp, and KDevelop out of the box just like we don't need Winamp, VLC, AFM2000, Photoshop and Delphi on Windows. Thanks to package managers, we can just click here and there, and have them available in a couple of minutes. Not having drivers, now that's a show-stopper.
- MSDN: Seriously.. we need MSDN-like website for Linux. Running around the web for some API, and stuff in Linux. While on the M$ side we can get everything from Win32,.NET, SQL Server, and some other Microsofties in one place (and maintained properly).... just my $0.02...

Right now I'm downloading SVN-trunk of an open source project called Lazarus. Trust me, you don't want to know how many files I've successfully downloaded since an hour ago.
The only reason for me to stick with XML is because other 'markup language' doesn't have anything close to XPath, that and XSLT, and maybe DTD.
We're working on this project where we take input from the client, process it, and eventually generates output as printable-report sheet. It was a lot easier when our reporting-engine of choice uses XML internally, so all we have to do is to whip out XSLT to manually create XML document and feed it to the report-engine so it can render the report and send it back to the client via internet.
Sure, you can say "that's because the reporting engine uses XML dumb ass". But what I'm trying to say is there's no other ML (at least the ones I aware of) that capable doing something like XSLT (and XPath, expressions to figure out the data inside the document) does.
Compared to JSON and YAML, I can't help to say that it's true that XML is uglier and bulky, but it gets the job done and still a damn-good alternative than serialization/memory dump. Maybe that's why XML is so popular around here, not sure about you though.
There's a place for everything, the gain is inside your choice based on technical merit to the problem at hand.
