I got a page saying "Error. Nothing to see here, please move along" when I clicked the link. Then I finally got here by clicking one of the tags and finding the article, then the link worked. What's that all about?
You obviously don't get it. You can't go to "System -> Preferences -> Screen Resolution" if you can't see anything 'cause your graphics are messed up! And the whole point is to make it easier for people who don't like using the command line.
Honestly, Virtual Desktops are AMAZING! Forget Alt+Tab, then they still see Slashdot on the taskbar. With Virtual Desktops, you can have one desktop for real work, one for slashdot and email, one for Pr0n and another for whatever else you need! And now they have it for Windows XP, too, not just linux!
Well, I actually don't think he was over-reacting by calling 911. He should have gotten a fire extinguisher, put it out himself, and still called 911, just to be safe. I assume nothing other than the laptop was burning...
I do think the FD over-reacted. They NEVER send a bamalance around here unless it's really, really a bad incident. One engine should've sufficed; a HAZMAT unit was definitely overkill. Around here, a batallion chief seems to show up at everything, I guess they'd have nothing to do otherwise. Maybe the firefighters were bored.
Actually, Windows 2000 is widely considered the most stable, secure Microsoft OS ever. I agree. It was not hugely insecure or hard to manage. Many companies still use Windows 2000 almost exclusively. When used in an Active Directory environment, it's easy to manage. It was stable indeed, and yes, maybe looked better than NT 4, but still, it's a lot better than Vista is right now. And XP, which you seem to like, is built on the 2k code base.
I just tried that! And now my computer's broken! It's like he attacked my computer back and did all that to me! Hey! It was a trick, huh? I bet you did that, didn't you?
Honestly, who is dumb enough to not know about 127.0.0.1? It is funny to set the IP address of a computer to 127.0.0.1 though. Or to tell someone that if they need to RDP to your computer that your IP is 127.0.0.1. Hah!
I sincerely hope you didn't actually think those were real BSODs. I hope you're just joking...
If it did real BSODs, that would be a problem, but I doubt that it would actually do that.
You can download the Bluescreen screensaver directly from Microsoft themselves! It's better than your method, because bumping the mouse doesn't do anything like it would normally; you have to hit a key. And, it "restarts" itself manually, even reading NTOSKRNL to find the bootscreen, so that if it's a modified boot screen, or a different version of Windows, it still works. My favorite download all time on microsoft.com. Perfect for April 1.
*Well, sysinternals made it, but Microsoft bought them out, so now they distribute it.
One in three people in the UK between the ages of 16 and 24 are total idiots.
WTF? They wouldn't give up their phone for a million pounds? Are they nuts?? With a million pounds, you could buy more than just one new phone. I tell you, some people.
I think you're on to something. If we organize together, we can slashdot gateway - over the phone! It'll be like a DoS attack! Thousands of slashdotters calling the same number at once to say **** you! Seriously. How about 12:00 noon, Pacific time, on Saturday, June 9th! Yeah!
By not modding up this post, you agree never to mod me down and to always waste your mod points on me. Additionally, you can never do anything to me that I don't like, and you must send me $4,000 daily. If you do mod up this post, you may never sue me for anything at all.
I know, it's sad, but they still use those in high schools.

Until they talk about this study on TV!

6. Switch to a different virtual desktop

This is slashdot, remember? You're supposed to say "Get rid of WINDOWS all together!"
Vista...
