They are required to be handicap friendly, within the county/city limits, and employers are required by law to allow employees to get time off to go vote. I don't understand how it could be that difficult. And considering 40-50% of the population is going to the polling station, it's not like you can't hitch a ride... And even if all that is impossible, they have absentee voting. I don't understand why the ease of use benefit is worth risking the viability of results.

It's called an "explorer post." My troop was hosted by a kids Dad who was an engineer at a company that made Mars rover prototypes for NASA. We made websites for ourselves to start out, which they hosted on the companies web server (*nix running apache), and after we learned http we made websites for for car dealerships and other small businesses to raise money for the post. Among the many cool activities we did, they also let us program very expensive Mars rover prototypes to walk around and explore the office and we had challenges to see who could program the best runs etc...

That experience, and having a computer in my room at very young age, are probably the two biggest reasons why I ended up choosing a career in Engineering. I have often thought that if I ever get off my lazy butt to do something good for the community it would be a technology explorer post like the one I was lucky enough to get into.

Interesting read. It seems a lot more reasonable than his op-ed piece. I think one of the most telling things from his blog post is this:
"The fact is, content and tech need each other."

He is absolutely correct. Now I wish he would tell us how exactly the RIAA is helping to create content, or protect the artists (aka content creators). Because all I see them doing is protecting the dinosaurs that still run the music industry.

Artists who are true to their craft want people to listen to their music, and if they make a ton of money off of it that's a bonus. If I was an independent musician that uploaded my new music video to youtube and got 50 million views, I would make a nice piece of change on that ad revenue (and using existing laws I could task youtube with making sure other users don't re-post my stuff). The RIAA is all about protecting the middle man from getting screwed out of that money and putting consumers over a barrel while compensating the artist as little as possible. It has nothing to do with protecting or creating content.

Religion still dominates most people's moral compasses (including those who claim ahtiest/agnostic) and it affects many facets of our lives. Hell, the western world is still effectively fighting the crusades. We can deny it or point out very human fallacies with religion all we want, but it doesn't change the fact that it matters. A lot.

It is definitely a dangerous drug when abused (like all drugs). But I've never seen anyone lose themselves with weed or booze the way this guy did when he was snorting Adderall. He acted like a tweaker when doing it, and was extremely paranoid, not sleeping, wouldn't stop moving, etc...

One of my old roommates got addicted to Adderall in college. It was originally prescribed to him by a therapist. I don't know what his problem really was (he once claimed to have ADD, I said "join the club"), but he attributed graduating from Penn State to the drug. When he lived with me he was snorting the stuff and buying it on the black market (on top of his prescription). He'd often be up all night vacuuming and moving things around. Then he couldn't make rent, largely because he spent all his $ on his addiction, and he was evicted. He would share his stash with other roommates from time to time, with mixed results. Some liked it, others didn't. None got hooked like him though. Admittedly, some people get addicted to things easier than others and some drugs are more addictive than others but I saw the effects of Adderall abuse first hand and it wasn't pretty.

IMIO, Adderall is more addictive than alcohol and weed but probably less addictive than oxycotin, meth, or coke. It's not stuff to be messed with unless you really need it.

For me, working with nerds that are so used to being bullied, I have the opposite problem of always having to make sure I don't accidentally bully someone because I can't even tell if they have no opinion, aren't paying attention, or do have a valid argument but are so meek that they can't elucidate their thoughts.
