First off, I'm not a quantum physicist but I'm also not an idiot.
After rtfa, the biggest support given by the article was about observing microscopic particles. The claim is that observing these can stop them from changing, "just as a watched kettle never boils."
Have you ever watched a kettle until it boils? I did when I was 10 to disprove my Grandma.
The reporter doesn't know what he is saying and I would bet money those scientists are doing this to get a grant.
I have worked with dozens of Chinese engineers (electrical, thermal, software, and mechanical) with excellent credentials (MSs and Phds from the "MIT of China" etc...) over the past 5 years. None of them have ever produced what I would call creative solutions to engineering problems. I think it is related to Chinese culture. They have been raised and taught to assimilate, not innovate. Ever seen the movie Hero? The story is about giving up your own ideas and desires in favor of unity and conformity.
I think this guy showed a little innovation with his virus. Something that is seriously lacking in China. The companies trying to hire him are willing to risk a security breach to get some badly needed talent.
On the other hand, every dumbass with an stupid idea thinks they have the right to shove their retardedness down our throats in the US. I guess its give and take...
Just wandered in off/. and this whole thing is really funny to me. First you've got the over active blogger (Paul) who's trying to badmouth Verzon and make a mountain out of a molehill (I have no idea why, probably was treated badly by Verizon in the past), and then you've got this marketing guy trying to spin it into a positive for FiOS.
Both are over the top but I can't decide who is more annoying...
Eww, wait a minute. I bet those pics are doctored, I can't see any electrical wires at all. Verizon is pulling the wool over our eyes! Who you gonna believe? A marketing joker or a two-bit blogger???
As a matter of fact, one cannot never win against the police.
Grammar aside, this is just wrong. You can win against the police, just pretend to be on their side. I do it a lot. Be the first person to talk to them and offer up everything you have (or everything you want them to think you have) and put yourself at their mercy. Cops appreciate forthright answers and information (even if it's not entirely correct). They are gullible and easy to manipulate (especially if you are white). Nerds usually just don't have the experience or the ballz to play the big game...
I love it, a dude who doesn't know what a PCB is trying to explain how they are manufactured. Articles like this constantly lower my opinion of the slashdot crowd...
The Sony Ericson w810i rules. Screw iPhone. You can get one of these bad boys for $50 now from cingular, get a 4gb pro duo card for $60 and de-brand it for $15 with davinci. Voila! It does everything, it's small, and their are no DRM worries. I've had mine for 6 months, and it is the shit. I am not a cell phreaker or anything and I got it all setup just how I want it with a few hours work (and it was kinda fun cause I was learning). Oh, and there is a torrent out there with 1200+ games for this phone...

Encrypted chat. Case closed.

Nice dude. I still need to try the infrared. Ubuntu (fiesty fawn) recognized the phone too...
I've said it before on /. and I'll say it again:
