    Not completely out of line as there is some evidence weight gain may be influenced by gut fauna. I await more evidence but my hunch is that such will be forthcoming.

    Not sure if it's related but more and more I'm seeing that instead of actually generating output, the answer employed is to just call "serialize" and use whatever comes out the other end, usually some unportable binary mess. Sure, it's easy and convenient for the programmer but it's a PITA if you actually want to do anything with it. It's not even like we don't have portable formats like XML and JSON (now de-facto portable at least)

    If you're working with a combination of gzipped and ungzipped files, cat| often makes sense and processes are cheap. Premature optimization and all that.

    Unfortunately, there's a political agenda in the current climate that is pushing that abiding by tax laws which means paying less taxes is the same as tax evasion and is tantamount to stealing. This witch hunt is often lead by those who wrote the laws in the first place.

    Ideally you'd have two different types of media so they would degrade at different rates (which doesn't completely eliminate the possibility of synchronous degradation of any particular bit of information, of course. But helps)

    Real life is good for testing scenarios you might not expect, simulations shine at testing infrequent scenarios and subtle variations upon them. Both are required.

    You (or the car behind you) were following too closely. Something an automatic car wouldn't be doing. In that case, swerving onto the shoulder is likely safer but you run the risk of say striking a cyclist or an expectant mother trying to get her spare wheel from the trunk of her car because she has a flat and is using the emergency lane for its intended purpose and not as a crutch for her bad driving.

  25. Hey, I've seen some pretty nice 20 year-old single-wide trailers on large tracts of land. I've also seen some ratty single-room apartments in run down neighborhoods. Examine your prejudices.
