Man, get off slashdot to prove the Internet is dead. Until I can't read ramblings of idiots like yourself, I'd say the Internet is alive and well. You are an idiot and a corporation hater, blinded by pure hatred of money, or specifically those who have it.
I'm not particularly keen on DMCA and a number of other laws, but to claim the Internet is dead because of them? You better go get your yearly dose of reality. Are these bad evil corporations forcing you to do to their sites? I seem to handle myself well enough to get enjoyment out of using the Internet without feeling oppressed by corporations or governements. What is your problem?
Consider my normal day: morning comics, check weather, couple of news sites, email (which I do not recieve spam to), %emerge sync, slashdot, a couple tech sites, play some morning enemy territory.
Then, if I have any research I want/need to do: google. In the last week I have looked up information on working with electronics, tried to figure out where the heck the vacuum filters that were ordered last week are, looked up information on a movie my wife and I are hoping to see sometime when it gets out for rental, looked up houses at realitors web sites, looked up software for working on my home website, looked for some packages to work with pcb layout, looked for updates for games.
Disappointing review.

I was really hoping this review would cover interesting things. For instance, how nano has pico compatability modes. And, like searches in a file can use regular expressions.
Sure, some of that isn't teribley exciting nano technology, but it should be said. Nano may not have the best tech behind it, but for a simple text editor, it truly is easy to work with.
I didn't even see any pot shots at emacs or vi in there. Truly a disappointing review.
Seems to me a better solution would be to either have the machine alert the user that they have Fizzer and needs to do something about it. Uninstalling it without letting the user know they have it seems like a really bad plan.
I'd be like someone breaks into a car and I notice when they are done that doors are locked so I go lock the doors for them. Who is to say that the person who broke into the car didn't do something other than just take their tapes or something. It would be better for me to leave a note for the person that I saw someone breaking into the car.
Here in GR, MI we had a couple decent stations. Then, CC arrived and bought this one station. One of the best DJ's (who also owns a couple CD shops in town) left that station for another. CC bought that station, again he leaves for another. CC buys that one. Finally I hear him currently on another station. But this one I think he either owns or something, I doubt we'll be seeing this on bought up by CC.
On a decent note, I think one of the stations is now freed from CC's grasps. Atleast I don't hear, "a ClearChannel station" after everything the DJ's say.
Sure, if everyone was evenly distributed across the US. You might notice these crazy things called the Rockies. There are also other dead areas across the US.
Its a nice idea, but I wouldn't bet the farm this will happen.
Actually, as I have mentioned before, Jedi is no longer a religion, its an infection of little bugs inside you that make you have pre-cognition, according to the holy videos of EPI.
So, you are afraid of losing your karma? What is with you? Did you not have faith in mankind to save your karma? People make me sick here. If you have something to say, say it with who you are. Stand up and be counted. Do not let the world tell you what to believe.
Or cower behind an AC post, making pot shots at others.
The "Star Wars" films have been accused, off and on, of promoting "New Age" religion and spirituality.
Well, Lucas fixed that, we now know Star Wars was a film about having parasites inside you so you can "know" things before they happen and move pillars that are about to fall on your friends.
I don't know if you have noticed, free speech isn't supported at all by many universities. How many have speech codes against "hate" speech. How many have prevent the freedom of religion on campuses now? How about even yesterday I came across an article where a couple clubs on campus were not allowed to have pig roasts since they could offend vegi's and muslims?
Schools are by no means havens for freedom of speech. They are like the public schools now, bastions of PC thought and anti Christianism.
Not exactly true. I am running a Radeon 9000 Pro with X 4.3 with the ati-drivers package in gentoo. Accelerated and everything. I don't seem to be able to find the drivers on ati's site, but they are ou there. If you are really dying to figure it out, I'll do some research. Just post a reply.
"Intel is saying that affects the 900MHz and 1 GHz Itanium 2 chops and that it will not affect the upcoming 1.5 GHz Itanium 2 6M chips."
In other news Slashdot is returning their newest server to Intel for a replacement. It appears that the error in in the on chip string handling routines.
If only the world would spend its time and money on things that can't kill each other. Why does everything have to be about killing people?!?
[/sarcasm]
I hope all the sheep that always claim that the US only spends money on DoD stuff figure out that the government (DoE here) does spend money on things other than to kill folks. And its a frick'en laser, and it isn't meant to kill people. Amazing.
Otherwise pretty cool.
Granted the otherside of slashdot that complains about anything with nuclear in it are going to hate this cause its going to kill us all! Lunatics on the left, and even more lunatics on the other left.
Oh, that is bad form. The last thing the world needs is more government. If anything the government should take that money and earmark it for recycling programs. Best case the stores should be required to put the money towards recycling.
Some of the local supermarkets around here will allow you to use old paper bags and get 5 cents for each off your reciept.
Student loans are not that bad if you do what I did, put most of college on credit card... No, that's not right...
More seriously, student loans are not that bad, infact are a decent investment. For a lot of jobs a diploma really looks good, so you should be able to demand more, especially when just out of school since you need that better pay to pay off college. Also, you do not necessarily need to go to a huge named school to get a decent education. If you start with a local CC for your first year or so to get the gen-ends out of the way then go to a "real" state school you can get a decent education at a reasonable price. All said an done, I probably spent less on college then I make in 8 months. While that may seem like a lot, school loans tend to have lower interest rates and payment is deferred upto six months after you get out.
Gack! My mom was screaming her head off on the mine ride like 10 years ago. That was really not a lot of fun. The magnum was pretty new then (I think its gone now though) and was a blast, went on that with my uncle. We both enjoyed that. Then we did the mean streak, which sucked! Its like a rollercoaster during an earthquake, but wooden coasters usually suck like that.
That really isn't a bad idea. Here in the states (some anyways) we have bottle deposits for soda and beer. Basically when you buy a case of soda here it will say 4.00. But when you actually pay it will be 5.20. Then you can return the bottles or cans for your "refund". Maybe something like that should be implemented.
Now to my original point. If only one store passed on a cast like this to their customers, it'd be death to that store. Perceiveable costs, even thought tiny, would drive customers to another store.
Maybe they need to come up with a similar idea for McDonalds cups. I hate seeing some lazy bastard just dump his cup or bag out the window when they are finished. Grrr....
I'm not a big'ole environmentalist (quite the contrary), but it drives me nuts to see folks littering. I clean out the slots on my car doors on a regular basis at gas stations since they get full, why can't other people just figure that out.
My boss, a fellow from South Africa did not understand the reference to "national flower". I get the impression, where ever the author of the story is from considers the "plastic bag" the national flower.
I know it makes it sound interesting, but why can't the press just report the news instead of making commentary on it?
Don't worry, we still hAve upper cAse 'A's. Use those for now. NASA is working on AlternAtive letters. You cAn sAfetly Assume until the full AlternAtive AlphAbet is creAted NASA will keep the upper cAse 'A' here. Otherwise they'd hAve to chAnge their nAme to NS.

I know you have a touch of sarcasm here, but there is a reason they often use rats.
How long does it take to make more rats and what is the cost to make them.
Compare to dogs and cats now.
It is simpley cheaper and the generations of rats are very high speed. So, not, its not that there is an emotional attachment, it is simpley faster.
Hmmm, do I never get mod points because I don't sheep like everyone else here?
-1 flamebait.
When you are a monopoly it isn't a simple matter of "increasing profits" and "besting its competitors". It is predatory practices.
The invisible hand in free markets only work when there is competition. When there is no competition the market collapses.
The reason we work for a free market is to enchance the products and prices for the comsumers.

Wow, I bet you feel clever now.
When the compiler starts complaining about my spelling I'll start caring.
