Just another example of why dorms should be isolated from the university's network. if they need to get in, they can VPN...

I hope the patent is explained better in the filing than in the article, because it's ridiculous. It'll get thrown out easily if the big guys decide to defend themselves rather than settle

You're a very sensible vegetarian, please spread that word that omnivores are not evil... I've seen vegetarians eat the most unhealthy stuff possible, exactly like you mentioned, just because there is no meat... My salad with chicken and ice tea isn't vegetarian, but it's more healthy than eating a giant order of garlic fries with mayo and a Coke.

  7. 700 meters? on Floating Wind Turbines · · Score: 3, Informative

The article says "Norsk Hydro expects to be able to use this technology on sites located 50-100 miles off shore, and with a depth of up to 500 meters" Where does the summary get 700 meters from? Adding the 200m steel tube to this number isn't correct.

  8. Re:Boots on shopping carts? Where are those used? on Cart Locking System Released as Open Source · · Score: 1

Perhaps you live in the rural areas of Oregon, but these are all over California. The limit is in the outer areas of the parking lot (thus the "yellow line" in the article), not the store doorways. It works too, the homeless just move on till they find a store without the protection.

  9. ROKR sucked, but SLVR is decent on All Things iPhone · · Score: 1

The article mentions that the ROKR was a bust, which is true, but I have a SLVR L7 with iTunes (modded to remove the 100 song limit) and a one gig microsd card... there was nothing wrong with Apple's previous ventures into the cell phone industry. Why would I need to buy songs over the cellular network when I could buy them from iTunes on my pc and then sync them automatically using iTunes? Of course the iPhone will have a much better ui and be easier to use, but it's not fair to claim all their previous cell phone partnerships with Moto were useless.
