It's pretty amazing how windows normally don't just put all non windows stuff on a different partition as default... It just makes everything easier. Of course you still have to install all programs again...
As we saw when the government passed a law making it illegal to download MP3's there was a significant drop in Internet traffic as well. That didn't like very long either =) People are bit afraid of being caught at first but they soon realize that the chance is next to nothing.
There are scientific studies. There are some older studies that argues that there is a link between filesharing and decreased profits however the newer ones argue that there are no significant correlation. Or at least that is what the expert witness claimed in the pirate bay trial
I remember running across a reference to one additional language - IIRC, its name began with symbol used for the unit angstrom, and it was developed in one of the Scandinavian countries.
That's pretty stupid (unless you're joking). It's not like you have to know English just to understand the few words in programming languages. Of course there are other reasons for knowing English. There are a lot more programming books in English and if you are googleing you'd want to search in English and be able to read the information.
It's election times soon and I doubt the sitting government wants to lose it's slight chance of getting reelected by enacting new copyright laws. Doing so would almost guarantee the pirate party a seat or two in the riksdag as well(they have a pretty good shot already)
From what i understand you can compile python code to x86 with psyco for a pretty nice speedup. from wikipedia:
Psyco can noticeably speed up CPU-bound applications. The actual performance depends greatly on the application and varies from a slight slowdown to a 40x speedup.
If the TSP is simple enough for a human to solve it in a reasonable time then a computer can do it as well (and probably much faster). There are good approximations to the TSP problem and the same could probably be said for the knapsack problem. From wikipedia:
In computer science and operations research, approximation algorithms are algorithms used to find approximate solutions to optimization problems. Approximation algorithms are often associated with NP-hard problems; since it is unlikely that there can ever be efficient polynomial time exact algorithms solving NP-hard problems, one settles for polynomial time sub-optimal solutions.
It should also be noted that the beta still has problems with pulse-audio. I was pretty disappointed when i heard the crackly startup sound in ubuntu when I installed alpha 5. I believe it has gotten better since then but it's still not good. From ubuntuforums:
Re: New pulseaudio, problem again! The current version, 0.9.14-0ubuntu10, has tuned delay parameters and reenabled glitch-free.
Most users will experience some audio aberrations (again) while the GNOME login sound is played. After approximately five seconds, the watermark size and buffer size will have settled, so you should no longer experience audio aberrations until the next time that the daemon autospawns.
I am attempting to address the major problems incrementally. For most Ubuntu users, this means:
1) daemon crashes to due snd_pcm_update_avail() not handling -kernel and -lib bogus data; 2) daemon autospawn race conditions; 3) daemon watermark/buffer size instability on initial spawn (which is the cause of your audio aberrations with system sounds).
When you buy used CDs you are indirectly giving money to the previous owner. The previous owner is then likely to buy new CDs. So you are probably indirectly funding RIAA =).
You will not be able to kill 15 people with a knife on a single occasion(at least unless you are a fighting god). In fact it's pretty hard to kill even one person with a knife.
Mod parent up please! This technology could potentially almost eliminate routine checkups IMHO. Not to mention the potential good the statistics could do the field of medicine. Of course slashdot normally prefers to focus on the negatives rather than the positives.
It's not like MS sues people for running windows on non-standard hardware.
Both Apple and MS will sue you for using their products without a license to do so. Apple only offers OS X licenses for their own hardware, and they're entirely within their rights to do so. If you don't like their terms, then don't buy it.

If i want to take their damned OS X installation CD and put in my microwave that is my right as an AMERICAN!*

Sweden: 20 people per square km...
Why does it have to be about bittorrent? Couldn't their VPN service simply be about providing anonymity and making money?
Obligatory comment that you're all lucky that you don't live in Australia =)

A friend of mine who studies at Chalmers University is capped at 40 GB/day I think.
It won't work if you click on it. You have to copy-paste the address. It seems they don't want to have their images slashdotted or something =)

Haha i almost didn't believe you since English is usually considered to be a lot cooler in scandinavian countries (at least in Sweden and Denmark) but then I saw http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fj%C3%B6lnir_programming_language =). Funny syntax=P

That makes it better?

Have you tried compiling the whitespace =)
Don't know about cows but from what i understand it feels quite good for human women to be "milked" (and not just because their breasts are swollen)

Wow! That's the most amazing use of 1 MB RAM I've ever seen
Maybe they can get proper windows that don't break willy nilly. They could probably save quite a bit of energy with proper glass as well.

It's ironic that you say that creationism fails Occam's razor when it was invented to "prove" that God is real =)
