Come on folks, this shit is retarding. Now even shite like Reddit will have a better interface.
Know what? Keep shitting it up, I don't care. I use a crap load of user scripts. I've been able to enable WYSIWYG HTML input formatting for years and years... If you're going to go, go full retard.
The simulated sound canvas just isn't complete without the horizontal scanning squeal of the CRT, which is about 15 kHz. Some of us used to be able to hear that 20 years ago.
I was 7 when I first started using computers and writing my own programs, and I could hear that squealing back then. It seemed my hearing actually got better since I could hear it even louder as I grew, well the CRTs got larger too. All through the 90's I spent more and more time coding and the CRTs squealed to me. I just learned to ignore it, didn't pay much attention to it. Then one day I watched a movie: The Matrix. Leaving the movie theater I thought I could still hear that faint CRT squealing? No, certainly not there were no PCs around. Then LCD screens came and the squealing got even louder... I noticed I could hear it all the way in the next room. In fact, I COULD hear the squealing everywhere! I just only paid attention to it when I was at the terminal! "My God, we're living inside the damn matrix!", I realized.
Many Tinfoil Origamists hear the call but sadly, only Neo can be The One. "Quantum Physics" -- Information "packets"... Yep, only further confirmation. So the physics step size of the sim is 1 Plank Second; The more stuff in a given area makes time slow down "due to gravity" -- which doesn't exist, space time is just "curved" -- Uh hu, sure, couldn't be that it just takes more CPU power to process more matter/energy... The Drake Equation says there should be life, but the answer to the Fermi Paradox is: We're the only ones in the sim... Now I just take Quietus to silence the incessant squeal, and try to pretend the NSA really are just the Agents they say they are.
The next obvious step is not to use it unless you can understand it.
So you're not going to use your car because you don't understand internal combustion engines or the chemical properties of gasoline?
That's easy to understand. What's hard to understand is why you fools let the car manufacturers convince you that they should be capable of getting 100 MPG standard by now, that's why I don't drive you. In the 70's my dad worked for Shell, and they demoed a car at a company picnick that got 70 MPG. What I don't understand is why they would put a remote kill switch in the onboard computer.... So I don't drive those kind of cars....
Unless all your CPU chips have the Ken Thompson Hack in the Microcode. Then they could all evaluate the same even if they were differently tailored to your specific system.
What you have to do is fabricate your own chips. Mine are the size of a garage wall perimeter, made out of contactor units, emulating MIPS at just under 0.01 cycles per second, and noisy enough to end three relationships.
Good points. But then again remember that the NSA, having approved the cipher for use with classified documents, now has to use it themselves
Fool. You seriously think that an agency which LIES directly to people who are cleared for the information they ask about, even when those people are SENATORS -- You seriously think this agency HAS TO USE the cipher they tell everyone else to use? I hope that your smarts aren't genetic, you'd be a threat to the gene pool.
But remember the NSA has to use AES themselves, at least when communicating with other branches of the US government. Do you think they would have knowingly approved a broken cipher for their own use?
Fool. If they're the only one who can break it, then why the fuck not?
You underestimate the paranoia and intelligence of the NSA then.
What's more paranoid? Selecting a cipher that no one can break, or selecting a cipher you can break who you suspect no one else can break, and to prove to everyone its "safe" you use it yourself, because you know folks spy on you anyway and plant false information as canaries for leaks anyway?
Hello, McFly?! Remember RSA coming out and saying that everyone needed to not use the elliptic curve random number generator they used by default in all of their shit because researchers have proven the parametric constants the NSA pulled out of thin air create a back-door into it and any other cipher using it... No one would even use that damn PRNG because it was so fucking slow, thousands of times slower than the other hash based systems.... Yet NIST pushed it into the standard, and RSA used it by default... The one NO ONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND would have used by default based on any number of factors, and yet RSA DID -- RSA, The CREATORS OF RIJNDAEL.
Seems like you're the one doing the underestimation. RSA has been under the NSA control for a long fucking time.
Could you point me towards more information on this? I like the sound of this "sell out my neighbours on ebay" plan. Not all my neighbours, mind you, just one in particular.
Well, we like to be discrete so we do these exchanges in person, you see. So, I'll just need your address to get started. Oh, and I'm afraid I have terrible pet-dander allergies. Have you any bunnies, doggies, kitties, or other pets? The schedule's a bit busy this time of year (pre-Christmas rush), so what times are you available in the evenings for us to meet?
In fact the fair thing to do is not pay back salary for the non-essential staff, since they did not perform their duties.
You used "fact" and "fair" in the same sentence. You are a fool. There are several FACTors you forgot. Such as the requirement to be on notice to come back into work, and the carrot dangling that you could get paid for the temporary lay-off. Is it fair to leave people in such a disadvantaged state? I would say the fair thing to do would be simply not build a war machine or two and pay the folks... Oh, but what of the military industrial complex? Tough shit, fairness isn't fair.
If the Republican Party had any integrity, they'd stop attaching Obamacare to the budgetary process, get the darn thing passed, then do an honest frontal assault on Obamacare.
Incorrect. If the Politicians had any integrity, they roll out stuff like Obamacare in a small test area, and IT WOULD BE ALLOWED based on the experimental nature of science, not rejected out of hand because it flies in the face of some bullshit untested ideological hypotheses about health care spending. Then it would be evaluated against control groups. Modifications would be made if needed as it was rolled out to more and more people -- Or stopped.
Rolling out a huge nation wide change without any evidence it will work is fucking moronic. Opposing said changes without any evidence of their harm after the fact is equally moronic. Fire Congress, no Scientist would agree to be ruled thus.
Sir, the plane is not responding! What does the flight manual say to do?
Nothing! But, the Autopilot said to "Sit on the damn tablet and rotate" before it stopped talking to me!
Just wait till the shut-down the government in USA.
It'll be like Tienanmen Square, but with tanks vs smart phone slinging teenage mutant ninjas.
Even worse! All of the 401ks are backed by the stork market.... Another crash and it'll be 60 something hippies in business casual firing Ronald Rayguns.
Well, I'm not sure about the effectiveness of this motive. What I think we need is an open source replacement for such "cyber army". As a US resident, if our government decided to involve citizens I'd sign up and help teach folks how to it secure their systems for free. Hell, I've voluneered at community centers already to do just that.
With a bit of state funding we could set up "crackathons" where government and businesses and citizens cooperated to test the security of our online infrastructures. Companies could pridefully display, "Withstood nations best hacker league for 3 hours!"... or maybe not... At least the bugs would get discovered (and fixed) and we could strengthen our "cyber defense" without criminalizing citizens. I mean, hackers are folks who love technology. If the governments want to have better "cyber capabilities" they need to decriminalize responsibly reported (or even accidental) penetration testing, and engage the populous. It's the information age... Shouldn't they be breeding better cyber soldiers, instead of stifling the pool from which they hope to hire?
The UK is being fucking daft: It's like outlawing art, then putting out a call for artists. Please fix your shit first, governments, you're putting us all at "cyber risk".
I really don't think we need "intelligence" agencies. Our citizens, militaries and police forces are mighty enough to fend off any threat to "national security" without any "intelligence" info whatsoever. The personal privacy rent is too damn high!
My cloud plan: servers welded shut and housed in 10000 yurts scattered across Mongolia. Network bandwidth may be a problem at first but I'm having some success in my experiments with ponies carrying micro-SD cards.
Interesting! I would like my prosumer mo-social wireless content delivery strategy to synergize with your thinking-inside-the-box solution, but the interface to my problem space may need realignment to fit the new paradigm. Do you support RFC 1149 - IP over Carrier Pigeon?
I seem to recall various atheist countries that were afraid of their people getting loose used Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Kim Jong Il, and others to control their people.
I seem to recall Marxist Feminism being born as a way to control women, convince them that they were oppressed by men and thus enter the work force, doubling the workers. It did not bring equility, it merely burdened women. It did not bring the choice to the family of which parent would raise the child, but instead normalized the method of human reproduction by having children raised by the state. Radical Feminism was born by adding to Marxist Feminism the idea that oppression was Patriarchal in nature; New-wave / 3rd wave / "mainstream" Feminism adds to these the idea that males can also be harmed by Patriarchy, and extends their narrative to all issues of gender -- All without any unbiased, peer reviewed evidence. All are examples of Marxist us-vs them divisionism applied to gender. Hilariously, a new Feminist theory of Kyriachy says that it is the elite rulers in power which cause the oppression... It is plain-jane Marxism! ha ha... oh, it would be funny if it weren't so sad, that this ideology is in control of nearly every political debate. Few speak out against it because they are labeled as villainous women haters. Womens Rights does not need Feminism, or any other ideology for that matter.
G.P. says, "Fear and Freedom don't mix well." Well, if that's true then why is it that fear of rape, abuse, and oppression of women are prominently used by Feminists in world governments to control the dialog of "gender equality" with no push back from those who would seek freedom from fear? Painting all men as potential rapists is as egregious as painting all blacks as murderous thieves simply due to crime stats. Even more egregious in the case of Feminism since they ignore the troves of evidence that men are over 90% the victims of violent crimes, and that women are as aggressive or more aggressive than men., the Feminists in the CDC have even redefined rape to exclude male victims and female perpetrators, saying that only penetration can be rape so vaginas can't rape (tell that to the guy tied to the bed with a q-tip shoved is his penis) -- Since most rapists and abusers have been victims of such abuse themselves this means the feminists are actually creating more female victims in the next cycle of abuse... Yet, speak out against them in order to fight for equality of both men and women, and reduce abuse, and you find yourself skewered by the ideologists for challenging their world views.
The ideologies care not for freedom, but perpetuating fear to further their fanatical and financial support. Ideologies are primarily the same in that they preach fear of harm coming to our women, and have no evidence to back their claims. From Islamic fundamentalists to Feminists, this holds true. For instance: Feminists harp on about equal pay, but there is no "wage gap", it hasn't existed for a very long time. Never married men make the same money as never married women... (and this has been true since the 70's). As a sexually dimorphic race women and men simply make different life choices, and men don't give birth. Additionally, ideologists cry out for "equal representation", but equal isn't 50% men and women. It's X% women vs men in at the bottom == X% women vs men out at the top. If the jobs are available to all, but 40% of women vs men apply for the bottom rung jobs then women should percolate up to the top jobs at a rate of 40%, eh? Same for 30%, 20%, 10%, even 0%. Women should be allowed to make different life choices, and not shamed for not being a stressed out workaholic CEO, in the same way we don't shame them for not being Coal Miners or Janitors or Game Developers -- the latter is i
Our current trend of releasing the CO2 from fossil fuels is just repairing the damage caused by prehistoric vegetation,
Please tell me you just didn't personify nature? Plants causing damage? Who says? Let me guess, a God? No? Well, that's what you've done. You've just applied good and evil distinctions to a natural process. How about this then: We should eliminate all life in order to repair the harm that order is having on the prehistoric entropy?
Science and Evidence is the true enemy of ideologies. Sadly, you are not yet awake to the fact that Marxists have used the exaggerated victimhood of women to gain control of your most powerful world governments. The same ploy is used by the Islamic here that Feminists use. Note that both are evil, for they do not think they need Evidence or Experiments to turn Hypotheses into Theory and then into Law.
Well, if we're going to mention things: HAM Radio. Packet Radio.
Now, if we combine that with an utter disregard for the FCC's ban on unlicensed use of our own "family band" air waves for packet radio, and apply the Fidonet model, we can build a wireless Internet you only pay to access once (when you buy the radio).
To the naysayers I have only two words: Cellphone Bills.
I think you haven't read the craziest paranoid conspiracy theories.
I don't think it confirms lizard men or shit like that.
Well, these revelations certainly lend credence to the possibility that the human race is being controlled by those with vastly superior technology. Look at all the technology coming alive around you, from cars that stare at your face until you smile, to game consoles that literally watch your children for you, to cars that drive themselves... And now this? If your world were being controlled by super-intelligent superintendents, wouldn't they be dolling out only the technology that inherently must spy on you to be used?
I'm no conspiracy theorist, but perhaps it is time you start testing these hypotheses instead of dismissing them. Otherwise, you'll never solve the Fermi Paradox in time...
This is the kind of crap that the KGB and the Stasi did. During the Cold War we rightly considered the United States superior because it didn't do that.
Indeed. Now, consider you fought for your country because of said superiority. Consider you took on the mantle of duty because you believed your country wasn't like the oppressive KGB and Stasi. Wouldn't it bring into question what you unquestionably fought for? Wouldn't it undermine the very honor bestowed upon you? Wouldn't it cheapen the sacrifice of any who fought "for our freedom" and were wounded or killed?
The NSA is dangerously harmful to the USA. It must be rooted out because it weakens us far more than it could ever hope to strengthen us. Trust in your neighbor and fellow man has been under attack by these intelligence agencies since the 50's, to better foist upon us their tools of oppression by way of fear-mongering. The common man is afraid to say things aloud or online, and thinks twice before exercising their "freedoms". If the threat is so great as to grant them such powers, then why isn't their message: Better arm yourselves to the teeth because your fellow man is dangerous. That isn't their message, that would be ridiculous and also empower citizens to defend themselves...
Is this surveillance state and national fear worth fighting for? Is that worth "freeing" another people so they may be subject to the same oppression after as before we have fought to free them? It takes bravery to fight against apparently overwhelming odds, and soldiers do this not because they will win, but because they believe in the ideals of our nation, core among them is freedom -- They do what they think is ultimately right and trust their government to direct them in the goal of honor; Even if the foot soldier's actions seem dishonorable they trust their government to have a clearer view of the big picture. Now we glimpse the big picture painted in secret, and what is revealed looks exactly like what we've been fighting against. This must not stand.
If it takes only bravery to fight against such systematic oppression making our land less free then how could it ever stand in the home of the brave? We must end paranoia of our fellow citizen's actions -- For we are great enough to thwart any who threaten us on our soil. We have the upper hand, we are so many and the terrorists so few that automobiles or fast food alone harms us more in a year than than they ever have in all of history. We are so great that we need not even be armed or even paranoid against the terrorists, even foiling their plots mid-air with bare hands once they've been discovered. Those that attack our citizens are pathetically feeble against us.
What of the power of the citizen in relation to our own government? In this regard the government has the upper hand. We trust them to have awesome weapons and machines of war far greater than we the people could have ever dreamed of when those words were first penned. Thus, the paranoia and fear of our government's actions against us must be ended, not by ignorance, but by ensuring there is nothing to be paranoid about. We trust our soldiers to fight for us, not against us because they will be ultimately accountable for their actions; If they fight against us then we would not have them as soldiers. Likewise, if their actions show they are against us then we must not trust our intelligence agencies to spy for us. They have betrayed our trust, and we must hold them accountable. Otherwise our honorable fight for nothing, we have no honor to bestow, and we are servants to bullies instead.
Ah, and then you realize that the resultant compiler produces the same output because perhaps the Ken Thompson hack is in the CPU Microcode, as Ken suggested. Furthermore, that since he got the idea from the US Air Force back before his ACM acceptance speech (in 1984), than such hack could be in essentially all the CPUs you'd purchase.
Fortunately for me, I spent my childhood tinkering with electronics and discovering compiler design without any mentors... I know my brain doesn't contain the Ken Thompson Hack, and I can bootstrap a OS without anything more than a serial terminal or a bootable hex editor. I had to squeeze the code down, fighting for individual bytes to fit it under a single boot sector... I know the software has no hack because there's no room for it, and the machine code is the same as I'd produce by hand on graph paper. With those simple tools you should be able to write everything else you need to create an operating system.
Note that many features of C are way overly complex -- You don't need to be able to do all those optimizations for speed. The dumb method is actually not noticeably slower in most applications. A C compiler is about the simplest compiler you can make (besides FORTH).
Have you any idea how simple it is to make a custom home network out of a few parallel cables? LIRC exists. Have you ever created an IR Transceiver to record and play back remote control signals and control home AV gear for your media center setup? Ever thought that IR could be used in place of a few parallel cables? Or maybe even RF? Ever made something like that over the weekend? Me Neither! I wouldn't be caught dead by the FCC sending unlicensed wireless data to my garage or neighbors -- Who would risk such a fine just for a little fun?
I've got systems that only network with others over hardware I've built myself. They couldn't "phone home" unless they were sentient and grew legs (or were made by Intel and included a cellular radio). I've got systems that run code written only by me -- Even the BIOS firmware (I replaced it with the OS bootloader, because fuck BIOS, if I can have instant-on; See also Coreboot for an example of how to do this with Linux). I teach kids how to do this sort of thing for fun, they think they're learning how to make games and how CPUs, compilers, and VMs work... Now we're working on a really big (noisy) Tetris game with contractors and LEDs so they can learn electronics by watching it work and pick up tenets of reusable fabrications.
This sort of stuff has been my hobby for decades. Bootstrapping an OS and C compiler from scratch is a relaxing break from the insanity of modern scripting, VM, and C/C++ to me. I do it on all my new hardware just to burn it in or get cozy with a new chipset. When push comes to shove, I'm not worried, but the rest of you are fucked.
Come on folks, this shit is retarding. Now even shite like Reddit will have a better interface.

It is a disgusting thought to entertain, but there could be reasons such internal national conflict is desired by the elitists who will most certainly escape any conflict unscathed...
