Here's an example. I'll sell you a 10MB HD for $1000 or you can go to your local electronic retailer and buy a 1TB drive for $100. Which costs less per MB?
The only problem is, that new fridge Isn't using less power then that 15 year old model as I well know. Had to replace my old fidge with a new unit and it actually uses a bit more energy then the old one did because it has less insulation. You want to cut the energy use of a fridge? Glue an extra 1 inch of rigid foam board to all sides. Sure it's only an increase of R2 but that makes one hell of a difference for most refridgerators. Alternative is to buy a SunCold unit that's designed with 3-5 inches of insulation instead of the 1 inch most new units have. A bit more expensive but when your food can stay cold for a 72 hour power outage, you'll soon appreciate it.
I'd rather the damn thing only retain the last 30 seconds before a collision. This way, if someone rear-ends up, pushing you forward into the car in front, it's recorded. Don't need camera's for that. The sensors already there.
The main issue as you said is the lack of tranparency as to what's being recorded and who in hell has access to that data. Things like GPS and speed are just two of the things I'm concerned with as the insurance company will ding you drastically for going with the flow of traffic even when that flow is safest. As an example, how many folks drive the speed limit on our freeways in the United States? Most people easily push 5-10mph over if not more just to stay with the others. Hell try merging onto the freeway in the L.A. Basin at other then rush hour and you damn well better be able to hit 55 by the time you're at the end of the on-ramp, otherwise someone is going to climb your ass and probably it'll be some damn idiot behind the wheel of a semi making less then minimum.
Which is why I use Noscript in paranoid mode - Block All by default and for those that I convince to install noscript and firefox or compatible, I setup the same way. Helps but it's not perfect by a long shot. For myself I use a combination that includes a custom hosts file to block much of the tracking done by Google and Others. In fact, I never access facebook or any of their product pages due to this. Google I use but it's reaching the point that I've begun limiting (probably too late) the amount of information they get from me by blocking what I can. It's the same for those who I happen to assist. I've got a subset of the hosts file edited to block most of Google, Amazon and the most annoying advertisers (punch the monkey - win an iphone) shit like that. Some of them have indicated that the host file alone has sped up their internet (a few are still on dial-up) while others are using slow dls (128 - 512) can it even be considered broadband if it's less the 10Mbps?
You don't find anything wrong with the collection of a psycological profile of everyone on the planet? What about the centrilzed collection of all Pii (personally identifialbe information) as part of the Psycological profile? Who knows what information Google shares with governments around the world w/o telling us? Just like the recent article about their attempt to develop automated detection of CP (by who's definitian?) that can then be used to auto detect individuals of interest - biometric facial recognition. Why wouldn't the U.K. and other camera states want Google to have access to all of those cameras once that happens?
In building an algorythim that can detect CP. Then they can combine it with their location detection methods to identify where it was produced. The big question is, are they then going to inform the LEO's based on the suspicion and ruin an individual who did not commit a crime? Are they becoming the new Thought Police ala "Orwells 1984"?
Some of the things that Google has done are worthy efforts but this has the seeds of some serious abuse right from the beginning because if Google can do this for images, then they can do it for Music, Videos and everything else that people want censored.
and then you get some one like me. My next build is based around a Xeon E3 1275 because instead of overclocking the damn thing, I'm going the oposite direction and under clocking the hell out of it. Why? Because I figure I can get the same performance by cutting the clock down to the minimum multiplier the CPU supports and locking it there. This means less heat/noise and a system that's stable for at least a decade if not longer and when I do need more performance, I simply reset the multiplier a couple of points higher and get it w/o spending another god damn dime.
your full of lint there. An AMD FX-8320 compares nicely with the I7-3700K (8K+ on the benchmarks) - This also puts in spitting range of the E3-1245 Xeon as while the 1270/75 tend to push just over 9000. Not bad for a chip that's only $150 (that's $125 less then 1245 and over $200 less then the 1270/75 Xeon.
It's called Firefox, IE, Opera, Chrome, Webkit for the remoting aspect. That's one of the reasons Wayland isn't investing effort into duplicating functionality that's in X11. It's no longer needed. Better options exist such as RDP or even god forbid "Cloud Apps" as were seeing alot more of.
What I'm hoping is that they reach the point that the 2d-3d performance allows me to handle any DX9+ game in Wine at max monitor speed (50-60 fps) as I'm using an LCD. I don't game much but I'd love to have the ability to do so easily and reliably under what ever OS I'm using.
The 5th admendment raises the burden of proof requirement for the Police and Government because w/o it - as is already happening with the revockation of "Habeas Corpus" after the 9/1/01 attacks, the 5th admendment is now the only standard preventing "Guilty Until Proven Innocent" because the government still has to prove your guilt - "Burden of Proof". Otherwise it becomes "We the Police, Find you Guilty. Execution is immediate" Bang - your dead. No appeals, no trial, no jury, no oversigt until we pick up our guns and begin treating them in the exact same manner. Civil War and the collapse of the United States. We are inching closer to that every day with the abuse of authority and such by the Government.
it's called small claims court and the chance of winning is far better they you'd think. I'll take $250 dollars - depends on the state - EG California now allows $2500 for spam and such per incident. Now if we'd all simply take advantage of these laws and start collecting from the most egregarious offenders.
My kingdom for modpoints. This would actually work and be in line with capitalism in general. Hell the Republicans should be all over this becuase it does two things - creates more industry and reduces governmental interference of business
Thanks for the list - hadn't heard anything about the iframe exploit - course I have noscript set "Deny All" plus custom host file to block lots of adverts - many of the servers been compromised at some point and I don't give a damn about them - it's my bandwidth
If they don't include one, then I wouldn't even consider accepting the mission. Easy enough to assemble and doesn't need much power except in the radiation shelter.
Why have Noscript if it isn't in deny all (particularly plug-ins)?
On my system, I've got noscript configured to deny all by default and all the other users (with log-ins) are configured the same way be default. If they want to change things, they can do so for those sites where it's a must to have scripts but they've already learned to be very careful about that and ask if they don't know for sure.
An hour for sleep in a business setting? That's too fucking long. It should be 10 minutes at the most. Forget the fucking screensaver and simply go to sleep. Much better power savings then. On my linux system, I have it set to sleep in 10 minutes. Long enough that it's not annoying, short enough to do some damn good. Only problem I have is I have to hit the power button to wake it up as even the USB goes to sleep unlike windows.
Ask Microsoft that question and you'll get a Hell Yes since that's happened in just the last year. Remember the recent patch tuesday that borked lots of systems worldwide? I got caught by that one and it was rated critical by MS (highest they share). Went to reboot and got a BSOD and yes I was suprised because I normally didn't get the updates that early.
That's how I access my gmail - Imap so changes to the damn inteface simply don't bother me so long as they don't kill the imap acces. When they do that, I'll see about moving some where's that does or look into a hosted solution.
and I wont stand by silently while you attempt to murder an Inocent until proven guilty individual. If needed, I will shoot you in defense of said individual as you've proven yourself to be just another rabid animal in need of removal. Sorry but that's the only way our society will continue to stand. Read Robert Heinlenns - Star Ship Troopers and pay attention to the Moral History class early in the book. This is before the crap movie used the same name and didn't even relate to Heinlenns work.
because it directly affects the $/w figure.
Here's an example. I'll sell you a 10MB HD for $1000 or you can go to your local electronic retailer and buy a 1TB drive for $100. Which costs less per MB?
Electric Sheep - screen saver is another distributed project

Because the god damn back door isn't in IE. That's the fucking front door idiot. The back door is in Office.

You're going to hell heathen terrorist as that's exactly the same attitude of Al Queada
