The only phones that even have any kind of actual tech support are Win7 versions as you can get an answer from MS, otherwise you might as well buy a plain feature phone instead of any type of smart phone since the carrier isn't going to offer more then replacement while it's under contract.

From what I've seen over the last 20-30 years, people want to be slaves and not have to think any longer and so long as they get their fix of garbage on the idiot tube such as The Simpsons and American Idol, they'll happily hand the keys to the kingdom over to who ever wants them.

Of course I've also got a UPS connected with 30+mins of runtime for the occaisional outage. If it's longer then that, the system goes to sleep and uses the hybrid hybernate.

What I like about the S5 sleep mode is the total power consumption of the system is no greater then when it's off. Yes there is a small parasitic demand but it is no greater then when the system is powered down because of the manner the PSU shuts down. That problem is related to the ATX 1.3 + specification that results in both the 12 & 5 volt rails always being powered.

In my case, I've set all certs to untrusted status and enabled those few exceptions to policy that I actually encounter as there are very few websites where I actually see SSL certs in use. Right now I'm looking at a total of 20 actually needed and having no problems with web access.

Since I also live in California, I've got no issue with NewEgg charging Sales tax and actually appreciate it. The reason NewEgg makes sense to me is the distance I'm from any store with a decent selection of hardware (+120 miles) so the cost of travel (2+hrs each way and fuel at 20mpg) means the sales tax no longer factors in. It's selection and convienence factor that comes into play as I don't have to waste a day just driving somewhere's that has a decent store that may have the parts I need. Hell the damn cost of fuel alone would be $60 alone plus the 4+ hours stuck in the car.

As to the Amazon issue, it's annoying that they think they don't have to abide by the law. Well I actually think California has the right idea. They need to have the sales tax collected at a higher level instead of me having to list all of the stuff I've purchased and pay the damn use/excise tax on it at the end of year. I'm sorry California but I don't happen to keep sufficient records to make it feasible to pay all of my Use Tax and for you to audit me costs the state more then they'd collect

Yes the taskbar is nice but I'd much rather be able to not use the taskbar and simply hit ctrl# to switch to my desired desktop/app while still have the KDE frameworks. A major issue I have is that you can't find an inexpensive standard 4:3 resolution monitor anymore. Hell I found it quite useful when accessing an ftp site that I had write privs as it allowed me to simply copy files from the system to the server.

As a 3.5 user, I would have preferred them to simply bug fix and transition 3.5 over to QT4. Some of the restructuring was needed but the complete change to the UI was totally unneeded. Keep in mind that the higher the octane number, the more resistent to knock/detonation the fuel is, meaning the leaner the computers can go.
