Of all the engineering fields I think programmers are the worst kind to be involved in politics.
Since in programming or in digital design, its all about 1 or 0, and its very different compared to politics.
I have an electronics background, and I really hate it when I'm dealing with Signal Amplifiers etc. Since in theory the design and in the bread board everything is fine. However, when you transfer it to the PCB a lot of stuff gets screwed up, the spacing between leads gives extra capacitance/inductance/resistance.
That's why when the deadline is near, I usually attach a potentiometer in the design, so when the expected gain is not achieved, I just adjust my potentiometer to be tweak it on the fly.
Just like politics, you keep on tweaking your potentiometer to achieve what you intend to do.
Just place advertisments on the corners of a TV-series episode. I don't mind it there, I even enjoy US commercials that sometimes slip up. I'd rather have it there than wait a year for me to watch on local TV stations.
I agree, I too am a J2ME developer for 4 years now. When my client or boss asks me to create an app, I easily can deliver a fully GPRS/Bluetooth networked application (fast and reliable) by the end of the day. No problem.
Now my boss/client asks me, can we make it look good and look consistent on all of these phones (100+ list in a spreadsheet). Now I have a problem.
I've used windows since 3.1 and also I've used Ubuntu, Fedora/Redhat and Mandrake. Linux desktop is easier to use now, however the problem with it are the installers. When I first started to use Linux for my Java development, it took me some time to know that you should chmod the.bin installers first. If you are using windows, you would not have that trouble and you would easily conclude that Linux is too hard. I think if the installers are improved then Linux desktop will be easier if not equal to windows.
For example, install printer driver.. #printer_driver.rpm or #printer_driver.bin
They did it before for WinME.
1. Release WinME that is worse than Win98 and make all users angry.
2. ??? (Release WinXP)
3. Profit.
"%s/WinXP/Windows7/g"
"%s/Win98/WinXP/g"
"%s/WinME/VISTA/g"
I think that this model only works for monopolies though.

You are lucky, its only a non-compete agreement. In my country, your boss will threaten to kill you.
