Although there are places where you pay a one time fee and use the buffet as much as you want, there are others that force you to pick from a menu and pay for what you get - it's just that simple.
Yes, but if I went to a restaurant & they told me it was all you can eat for 7.99, I'd be pissed if I went to leave & they stopped me to pay for each item I ate.
I think the biggest thing I fear is that the latter case will become the norm. Just like those per-pound salad bars, you never know how much you've used until you check out. I'm sure the cable companies would love to use that model, and want everyone to have $200 bills at the end of the month.
As a Time-Warner customer I can tell you *exactly* how many $200 bills I'll get. One. I'm a medium user, I'll occasionally d/l an iso or demo, but I'm not a big p2p user. If my charges go over $60/mo, I'm better off w/ DSL. Plus a public IP.
Which makes me wonder if they're going by total traffic, or just downstream. That would suck, since I transfer my playlist to work 2-3 times a week. Bah, I guess I should put in my DSL order now, so it might be installed by the time I need it.
I'm not sure how well Bman plays with the other kids, err, labels, but it's possible they have deals already set up. If *I* were a big label, & I wanted to break into the online distrobution biz, I'd buy into it. But I'd make sure I had deals with the other labels, either "I won't sue you for my content on your networks if you won't sue me", or they've got some interoperability plans set up, which is not likely.
It's all a part of the big conspiracy. Obviously us males aren't worth much, but we are (were) necessary for reproduction. Now the ladies can just clone offspring & do away with men (& sex) altogether. I know this because I stumbled into one of my daughter's indoctrination sessions the other day. They've cleverly hidden their communication devices in the dolls called "Bratz" so the males wouldn't find them. I'm pretty sure they don't know I'm on to them, but if I disappear, you guys will know why...
I had a couple of problems with the latest drivers on my geforce2 dual-head card. 1. it won't start in default init:5 I think I had that problem before & it went awy, though. I just stopped bothering with the pretty login. 2. opengl apps load in between the two monitors, which sucks.
Note: It might be because I recently installed Mandrake 8.2.
Man. I once put a link up to the Bonsai Kitty site on my web page, and I got so much hate mail I thought I would go crazy. I got more mail than I get hits, so I don't know how the heck that works...
With a little luck I can get loaded and fulfil my commands ANYWHERE! My Girlfriend doesn't like all this objectification, she wants a functional relationship, but I tell her everyone is doing it now.
I first read that as a *financial* relationship and was struck by her honesty. Then I reread it & was crushed:(
Or you can do what I did, get a dual monitor setup & a tv card. Now I keep a little tv window on my "logs" monitor. And Xawtv works better than the win9x software that came with the Hauppage. At least xawtv can handle dual monitors:)

Apple thought it was a bad idea, that it would cause confustion, they said "Hey Mediafour, can you guys change the name?" and they said "Sure, no problem"
They just asked, and Mediafour did it, it wasn't a big deal.
A rose by any other name... Seriously, I've seen similar issues where software developer x didn't want to change the name. And I've always been confused. It's just a name, right? The code is still the same.
Hey, I don't know you, or your friends. I know me & mine. I know all about the whole Dupont/nylon thing, and all the rest. Really, we're on the same side. I think I was trying to be amusing. Hell, I don't remember. My memory was shot a long time ago:)

Not really funny. When my wife left me she took everything except my computers (and *her* cat????). I guess she knew she'd have a real messy fight on her hands if she tried that.
Luckily everything is worked out & we're on good terms now (we even live in the same apartment bldg., which is convenient for our young'un).
Why isnt marijuana legal? People have been petitioning for it by the millions for 20 years or more now.
Really? That surprises me. I know loads of people who smoke, and I can't see them getting motivated enough to *sign* a petition, much less start one.
Personally I think the gov't would be much better off if they legalized it & taxed the hell out of it (to make up for loss of "drug war" money). Pot smoking & activism don't mix. Someone smoking reefer:) is content to sit back, maybe watch a little Mork & Mindy on channel 57, get up & go to work in the morning, well, ok, afternoon. Toking takes most of the urgency out of your actions. I'll start circulating that petition, uh, tomorrow. Yeah, that's it. Hey man, you done with that? I wanna hit...
Y, that's been going on for a while. My '91 Dodge says "imported for" DODGE (the imported by is *really* small). Look inside & all you see is the little Mitubishi radiation sign:)
One thing I find interesting is that it only seems to go one way. I see lots of domestic cars w/ "foreign" parts, but I've never seen a Toyota w/ Ford parts...
I have come to believe the following: No matter how technologically superior your product may be, if you compete directly with Microsoft you will lose (i.e. you will make less money, and have less market share). Why this is true for OS's and not for microprocessors I'm not sure.
Compatibility. The same software you run on Intel will run on an AMD cpu. Which is why Wine etc. is important. I'll stop before I get started. You know what I mean.
Yes, you do have the source, and you could remove the ads. I wouldn't. Knowing that most linux users hate ads almost as much as paying for anything, I can't imagine a linux distro putting ads in unless it was absolutely necessary. If they need the money that bad, and I'm using their "free" product, I'll look at ads. Even click on some.
Maybe that'd be a decent way to differentiate between d/l iso & boxed sets.
So anyway, smarty-pants (since we're resorting to name-calling). How would *you* make money off a free product that no one pays for? I love Linux, and try to support it in any way I can. And I doubt any *theoretical* distro ads would be spyware.
That's right. I'm often amazed at the stupidity of most of the people here. Hey, it's free. I won't even be suprised when they start inserting ads into your fave linux distro.
No doubt. I started to download it before I realized that. I got all of 47k before I noticed & killed it. But the server was still up. They must be running Linux:)
Thinking that you're 16, you're probably in school. Finding an IT job that will work around your hours might be difficult. You could probably get some kind of internship, but there's no money in it. Plus that's really for experience & you say you've got that.
That being said, I think you should look into college. I'm sure you've heard that before:) I don't know if you can get a head start, but if you can start taking classes now, do it. The certs won't do you any good right now. By the time you're employable (in "the man"'s eyes), your certs will be out of date. If I could change one thing about my life, that would be it. College. As an added bonus, you get coeds:)
They actually expect to be in the black this year. It's just going to be really close. They're improving their finances, and only need a short term boost to keep going at the current level of commitment.
(all this info is from their public newsletter. I'm nobody & have no important insights or info)
Well, make that 7,999 members more, I guess, though I didn't see where they mentioned how many members they've got.
It was mentioned in an email from Mandrake. I opened a browser to go see about joining, and saw this story here:)
That said, Mandrake is my fave desktop distro. I've had many barely tech literate ppl use my PC & have no problems navigating. I use Slackware for servers, but that's mainly because I like to go barebones for servers. Desktops are where Mandrake shines, though.
I don't think there are that many more, I just think they're much more publicized. Now I'm not a MS conspiracy freak, but.... it does help them a bit. Of course, it also helps us that the open source bugs are quickly fixed...
I should've clarified my comment a bit. They aren't aiming at consumers, but at businesses. Businesses have different TOSs than Joe Blow. I'm sure some of them allow them to resell.
Also, assuming this catches on, there's actually a decent business plan, so they can always pay an ISP tax (which will most likely screw the Mom-n-Pops).
I don't know if the ISPs will be pissed off or not. This seems like a fairly straight business deal. Running it from CD makes me wonder how customizable it'll be. They're planning to make money by charging roamers to connect, while letting their partners (w/ fat pipes) connect for free.
If anything, it should make the consumer broadband ISPs happy, since it restricts unauthorized use.

I'd go for:
4. Replace the drive w/ a different manufacturer & Ebay the "unopened RMA" drive.
