Mommy and Daddy paying my bills? What in the fuck are you talking about? Back when I moved out of my parents house (12 YEARS AGO) I had a 2400 baud modem. I was very careful last time I moved to make sure the place I was moving to had a broadband connection. Sounds to me like your the one living with mommy and daddy or if broadband was so important you would move. Why don't try living in israel for a few years and then come back and whine about not having broadband you dumb fuck.

I understand people outside the US bitching about this but inside the US we have choices. If broadband is on their high priority list then they should move. I want to have a nice view of an ocean or a lake but my finances wont allow it, however broadband is cheap and its all over the place.
I know some people don't want to move but they must realize life isn't fair and its full of choices. BTW, I moved from my quiet house in the middle of nowhere and one of the many reasons was broadband.
I believe that was after the plant that manufactured 80% of the d-ram chips burned up in hongkong. Other than that incident $40/meg was the standard price for many years.

These stocks are good examples that the post you replied to is correct. I mean have you seen how much they have fallen? Over inflated stocks with huge P/E ratios equate to a bad investment not money in the bank.
Microsoft's.net is going to automatically share out this investor information? If not why is this something you couldn't do with apache/mysql/php?
How will this be easier, quicker, and cheaper than using open source? I'm intrested to know what a traditional web server (with a database and xhtml) not handle? You seem to be rambling about something but failed to give any facts. Explain to us exactly how buying NT, MS-SQL, Oracle 9I and J2EE is cheaper than an opensource solution.
Maybe the Microsoft marketing machine has infected the brain of your company but I've done work for plenty it hasn't.
Even though you admit its flamebait I still have to bite.
If you can change their views and switch them over to Linux, then and only then can you claim some sort of victory.
I thought the point of articles like this were to show those people that it can be done. In order reach that point other companies have to show they can do it first.
AtheOS is designed to be a desktop OS. Linux, BSD and Win2k are "ORIGINALLY" designed to be a server OS. Win2k is the only one designed with the desktop in mind, with the others its more of an afterthought.
Maybe a better comparison of AtheOS would be to WFW3.11 since its a gui desktop OS in its adolescence stage.
I went through all your old post searching for misspelled words and I must say that you practice what you preach. However many things I saw were putting down other people and calling them morons. I feel better knowing I only come across as someone to busy at work to use a spell checker. I'd really feel bad if I came across as a complete jerk.
Attn. Lord Nitpick, I spelled checked this one so you can sleep better tonight.
As a user of your products I have become very offended today. I feel
like your company is trying to insult my intellegence. Your company has
choosen to enforce the DMCA by arresting Dmitry Sklyarov.
By arresting Dmitry you are sending a message that you will allow your
product to continue using substandard security. You should be applauding
Dmitry for showing that your software needs improvement. As a user of
eBook I am happy that Dmitry has shown that the security can be broken.
Do you actually think your customers want you to hide these problems so
only the bad guys can get our data?
Would you want to continue using eBook if you know from now own Adobe will
use scare tactics to keep security holes hidden? Put yourselves in your
users shoes. I am not going to use eBook from here on out. I will be
looking for another product until your views on the matters change. Not
only do I feel you should change your decision you must also voice out
against the DMCA. From here on out I will never use any products that
support the DMCA or any other plan to take away citizens rights.
Here at IBM we have a support group. This group couldn't clear off an etch a sketch. They make each division pay to use these guys. I have yet to see them fix something without days off blaming the user. Finally if you yell and scream loud enough they might feel the need to actually look at the problem and see its something on their end. They force all the users to use Windows 95 and NT 4.0 because they say they can't support anything else.
I just find it a bit ironic they make a product like this for other companies while we continue to suffer.
I'm ashamed that AOL did that. How dare they take a very incomplete and unready Open Source project and unleash it on the world as a "finished" project. Is this what goes on behind the closed doors of commercial software makers? "It's good enough - package it, give it a high version number and ship it." - what a crime.
Either this is meant as sarcasm or you've never had to support Windows 3.X.
This is in response to the last sentence. I'm not suggesting 3.X is/was Open Source.
I used to pirate mp3s years ago via IRC and ftp sites. The pirating will always go on its all just a matter of how hard it is to do. There are so many alternatives to Napster already they are going to have a hard time doing much to combat the problem. They may force the problem into the underground but they wont elimnate it. This is very similar to America's Civil War, err I mean the war on Citizens of the United States who use drugs. What I don't understand is why this isn't obvious to everybody. I guess many of us just choose to keep living in denial.
I can't resist "slamming" you on this one. Most slashdotters are aware that Microsoft was formed by plagerizing CPM. Since the company is based off of stealing other people ideas then why start giving them slack now? Maybe we should start liking them for forcing manufactures to only sell PC's with their OS installed? Sorry but I think slashdotters have plenty of reasons to HATE Microsoft and I don't see how they are being hypocritical.
There are 100's of other examples why they are never to be trusted. I only choose the two most obvious. Type Microsoft in a search engine if you need to learn more.
Also Tivo has been really nice to the "hacker community" and not come down on them for hacking the Tivo.
Their is a difference in thinking up and idea and stealing someone elses labor.
Growing up in an urban area I think its better for loner type kids (I was one) to turn to computers. When the other options tempting you are herion, crack, crystal meth, or maybe join a gang to feel better about yourself. Most kids parents (like mine) weren't there or just didn't have time to raise their kids.
Even though I got involed in a lot of bad things I think my computer ate up many hours that would have been spent on the streets. Now I am 27 years old and have an almost 6 figure job as a sysadmin thanks my interest in computers. If only the internet was around back then I would have learned so much more.
Great, that's just what we need is more unskilled tech workers trying to maintain server "appliance."
This wont be a server "appliances" it will be a standard server running Unix. It only recovers better from hardware failures adding more redundancy.
Not to mention the fact that they are trying to put more Slashdotters out of work by replacing them with "dumb appliances."
This will not put anyone out of work. Redundancy means I don't have to get up at 3AM or on weekends to go troubleshoot a hardware problem. As another poster said it means I can spend more time focusing on intrastructure and implementing a better network.
In the industry "Slowlaris" is generally used to describe the intel version. Even people I know who work for Sun use it ;).

You mean the fact that the story said expect the site to go up and down like a yo-yo and still everyone complains over and over again its down?
So I guess Microsoft OS's must just use the hardware a lot more than Unix then?

Don't worry in a month or two all the code red victims will switch, apache use will go up 20%, and the media will say Microsoft is having a bad month.
Oh yeah well... I remember when all we had was a stone carving.

From Microsofts perspective Linux is a cancer on their bottom line. I just can't believe they want the rest of us to sympathize.
