There are special irons we used to work SMT parts, but it was more for discrete capacitors and resistors and such, don't know what is recommended for working the multipin devices like the SDRAM in this case.
Not going to get into a flame war here but freak, there is a *FREE* OS option that allows a consumer to have just about everything they want and in fact there'd be even more when developers perceive a market opportunity of all those consurmers who recognise quality...
If a consumer is so dumb that they'll pay for their OS then how are they going to twist that into some case that they are being taken advantage of? Guess none of the people filing in the suit had to pay over $1000 for an OS before and don't realize how relatively cheap software has become in the last 20 years.
And don't bring in the hardware example... that new fangled hardware just makes the coding process more complicated. Ask the compiler developers...
Isn't SCO the Santa Cruz operation that made some excellent skateboards back in the late 80's??? I don't know but everything seems to have gone downhill from there. Should have stayed in hardware...
Tarantella? What the heck is that supposed to mean? Nobody's going to buy a skateboard from a company called Tarantella!
Do you realize that this is going to turn the whole issue around? AOL will reach into it's deep pockets and they can be attacked with all the wrong logic that has been dogging the technology we cherish... but their leigons of lawyers will effectively put the matter to rest and hopefully settle the matter in a precident setting way!
Go AOL... fight hard and stong and win one for the Napster;)
Ok, well look... I'm a huge fan of Slashdot humor and so I often go grep-ing for "funny" comments. And searching thru 330 comments, I find no humor. Sadness. So this is my attempt at a joke and a paradox!
"Global Warming - Nothing Funny About It"
Haha? No, that's not funny. QUITIT! You're hurting my brain!
They already have a product that's ready to go out the door, and with IBM microelectronics behind them there should be no problem getting what they need. IMD rocks. www.chips.ibm.com
I just discovered this myself, and of course at the.com site my client won't send a cookie, so I would be there AC. I'll surf the.org baby, this is were the action's at!
Hey, anyone know where I can find these guys working today? I think it would be so cool to have one of them working for my company. These were the visionaries who brought you the video game revolution!
Tell me why you think this is so off-topic? There should be no annonymous moderation, ie, you should not be able to moderate without a comment on why you think something is OT/FB/etc...
It is a company that claims to have some reconfigurable stuff for sale, but I've never seen any reliable references of anyone actually using anything by them... so I am dubious...
I think the idea of the NDS being open sourced is a great insight... in fact, don't know if you've seen this ad on TV yet but maybe a hit of things to come....
We really need to get a group together that specialized in detecting this kind of activity. You know that it's going to get harder to detect this kind of activity as the network evolves.

Beautiful hack though!

It is a company that claims to have some reconfigurable stuff for sale, but I've never seen any reliable references of anyone actually using anything by them... so I am dubious...
Has anyone checked out these guys?

This did not compute
This just went up on the TPC website Monday, there is a monster leader in transaction processing price/performance and that is:
IBM Netfinity with Intel Xeon processors
IBM DB2
and Windows 2000.
You will not believe this unless you see it!
Read'em and weep
Someone moderate this up, Intel is going to need help against strong competition in 2001, especially in this market.
I submitted this article way before the AC but anyway. This line from the Courtney interview rocks! Check this out:
"If you're afraid of your own filler then I bet you're afraid of Napster"
So to all those succa's who can't finesse art... please go home.
