who was schooled in the 60s, and who doesn't have children of his own, I have to say that that I thank God that I'm not growing up or have kids today. My neighbours had their young grand kids ( 5 and 7 ) to stay for a month on their farm last summer and I was appalled by the stories they told of how parents are forced to raise their children now.
They had to teach their grand kids that it was OK ( at the farm ) to just go outside and play in the yard or field whenever they wanted to, without having to ask for permission first. At home, if they were found alone in the park across the street from their home ( even though their mother could see them from her kitchen window ), the police would be called. Kids today are not being taught how to live in a real world, instead they are just being conditioned to live as obedient serfs and not think for themselves. If TPTB ( banksters, elites, globalists, whatever you call them ) haven't bought-stolen everything by the time today's kids reach adulthood, they can just sit back and tell their serfs to give the rest to them:-( .
A ping of 638 ms is what you would expect from a satellite in geosynchronous orbit. These will only be around 380 miles high. Think about that when pinging from one coast to another.
Huawei is looking to ditch Intel chips in favor of its own chips. I wonder if this is why Washington is so trying to keep Huawei out of new telecom ( they want to ensure Intel IS in new telecom ). It might also explain why the Europeans can't find evidence of Huawei spying. Washington just doesn't want to lose access to Merkel's ( and everyone else's ) phone.
No it's not kinda shit, it's really just a naked tax grab. And like all taxes, once it's in and more or less accepted as routine, then they'll raise it.
This doesn't mean that Apple has to make it easy to repair, think glued in batteries. As long as the costs for Apple to replace a few defective devices instead of repairing them themselves under warranty, is less than what Apple looses by not selling newer replacement products, Apple ( and other manufacturers ) have no incentive to make their products easy to repair. They just can't make it harder for others to repair than it is for themselves.
Politicians keep blaming the rich. But no matter what they force the rich to pay, politicians will spend more.

It's all about taxes, where ever they can find them
Just get a 900 number. The robo callers and telemarketers get charged charged a fee every time you answer, but you can refund the fee to your friends and legitimate callers. Problem is either solved, or you just sit back and rake in the cash.
Just think about it for a moment. Who is currently qualified to teach a subject that doesn't even exist yet ? Where did they get their education ? They just collect their salary and by the time the students realize that the teacher didn't have a clue, the university will have their money and the teacher will have tenure.
How does the Borg accurately determine just how fast someone's Internet connection actually is ? They must have incredible telemetry / spying going on, perhaps even on "updated" Win7 boxes, for them to determine location and network connection speeds for everybody in the US.
Notice the phrase "original specifications".
I wonder if this means that a manufacturer can't remove a feature after the fact by forcing an upgrade. I'm thinking of Sony removing the "other O/S" on the PS3.
We may not all read the same books, but increasingly due in part to media consolidation but also to Facebook ( and other giants ) we only have access to the news, information, and opinions of which Facebook approves. There is no requirement that Facebook be fair or unbiased. Anything that Zuck doesn't like, or whose competitors pay him more, doesn't get access. If all the cars you ( are allowed ) to see are red then pretty soon you will think that cars can only come in red.
I've been retired for a couple of years, but we always had to keep a POTS line around for the fax ( burglar alarm too ) as fax wasn't reliable over VOIP. If faxing over VOIP can't be / hasn't been fixed then the migration to VOIP should kill off fax sooner than later.
A worse problem is that batteries loose their charge when their temperature is lowered, such as at altitude. Of course they regain it when warmed back up again. Hopefully the plane will not have crashed in the mean time.
Any country that fired a nuclear tipped missile would be painting a target on it's own forehead. Everybody would know who launched it and would retaliate. A much more likeky delivery method, would be to pack the warehead in a container and ship it to a US port where it would detonate during unloading and before it could be scanned for radiation. In the aftermath it would likely be impossable to determine from the hole in the ground which container ship had exploded let alone which container on that ship. Even if analysing the fallout could suggest where the fuel was produced, there would be plausable deniability to delay/deflect retaliation.
Why not build data centers into the bases of offshore wind turbines. You would still get the, for all practical purposes, infinite heat sink of the ocean or large lake, cheap energy ( most of the time when the wind blows ), access for repair, and the data cable could be laid with the power cable from the turbine. Everybody wins.
I believe that volcanos also emit SO2, which tends to promote high altitude clouds, which reflect sunlight causing cooling. Volcanos are more likely to cause global cooling than global warming. Maybe Hawaii is responsible for our cold spring;-(
It is irrelevant whether ai or machine learning or ??? is developed for the military or not. When non-military ai is sufficiently capable it will quickly be re-purposed for the military. The only difference developing ai directly for the military makes is that the budget is bigger and arrives sooner.
Whatever they are going to use the information for, it certainly won't be to benefit you, or me, or anybody but Facebook.

It is to the global warming crowd, although some may be having doubts this winter.

You say it only works on IE6 ! And that nasty old Dr Dos is up to his old tricks again causing all those bugs on patch Tuesday ! Ain't payback a bitch

This is just about using the current blockchain hype to separate students from their money.
Good luck recycling any of that when it will have also caught a lot of the radioactive fallout from the Fukushima melt down.
They must be having an off day to have missed that opportunity ;-)

On Linux the redshift utility has been doing this for years.

Defender proves this. So why doesn't Microsoft just sell a hardened Windows ? Why sell an insecure product and then addon security ?
