Completely off topic, but if you have a bunch of hot female naysayers at your house, what on Earth do you hope to accomplish? It's like the kid in college who lined his room with posters of women in bikinis and never ever talking to a real live girl.
A lot of the replies so far today seem to hint there's only one reason when really there's a myriad of reasons. It easy to play the blame game. Then you can beat up on whatever your favorite "dead horse excuse" you want. And there's a lot of them: unions, teacher pay, uninvolved parents who expect teachers to babysit, etc.
The issue should be centered around what all people involved can do to make the situation better. I have seen many good teachers who have been worn down by the system, both from the inside and from the outside, who are shells of their former selves. Unfortunately, you can't just blame one thing here.
What's interesting is that there has been a push by some people and the governor for a "racino", a place for placing race bets and video lottery, IIRC. Perhaps this is some weird way to try and get some groundswell for gambling to finally push it through the reluctant legislature.
Seeing you partially brought this up, let's take the drug companies. Currently, their strategy is to create the same drug which is coming out of patent protection and can start being made by generics, tweak the formula slightly, whip up an ad campaign and start pushing the drug on doctors to prescribe this so-called "new and better" drug over the generic drug you can get for 1/10th the cost. Rinse and repeat. They already have their money tree and it's not doing us a fat-lot of good.
Honestly, I wish we could write the whole profit motive out of research and development. We might actually get somewhere without having to come up with profit to justify it's existence.
No. Rail lines and companies were systematically dismantled by the auto companies, GM in particular. GM participated in anti-competitive practices and all they got for it was a slap on the hand.
The great myth is that this kind of FUD has existed for so long.
At one of the clients I work at, there's a choice between riding the slowest elevator in the world or walking a few steps and taking the stairs. Guess which option most people take. And it's not like it's a ten-story building. Three stories, that's it...with most traffic going from the first floor to the second.
We've somehow convinced ourselves that "convenient" is better than the alternative.
IT, for the most part, has always been seen in business as a cost and a money sink. Most of the companies I've been involved with are usually understaffed in critical areas, or worse, have entrenched dinosaurs who hang on to that one morsel of knowledge which will keep them their jobs. IT is not a revenue generator like sales and often has to battle for every penny in their budget, coming up short many times.
I think doing this is a good thing for IT, but getting the management to buy in is the most crucial piece. It's actually the strongest kind of pitch to make. "If you do this, you will save (x) amount of dollars." Accountants love that.
Again, back this up a little, would you? People like me don't accept these things on just your say so and actually would like a link before you make some outrageous statement. Oh, and Newsmax does not count as a reputable source of information.
The only thing I've seen recently from him is his thought to reinstate the federal assault weapons ban, which, by the way, he was told to back off from both the White House and Congress.
It looks like this is Microsoft's security suite for the business/enterprise environment, much like their OneCare is for the consumer market.
Yes, and we know how OneCare was SO successful...
An interesting question would be what Microsoft considers zero-day security flaws. Ones that are recognized by industry leaders, or ones that Microsoft magically declares zero-day the day after they rolled out the patch to fix it.
My guess is that he'll be rewarded with in-game "isk"...game money, for those not in the know. EVE is pretty cool in that community efforts are appreciated and often rewarded in game with people who have a ton of resources to splurge.
I have to agree with a lot you have to say here (especially about the part with the unsubstantiated rumors on the website as fact), but I have to make one correction for you. Judges can't just drop charges, especially when they are filed by citizens. They can dismiss them (usually after the defense has made a motion to dismiss) or the initial litigant can decide to drop the charge. Once the wheels are set in motion though...
Not sure why this guy got modded Troll. Case in point, I got the most recent BSG DVDs and tried to play them on everything I had. VLC didn't work beyond the root screen. Windows Media Player failed. Intervideo DVD player crashed every time. It wasn't until I loaded the K lite codec full that I could get it to play...and only on the Media Player Classic frontend.
Don't get me wrong, I use VLC for most all other things, but they don't include proprietary codecs with the program. You can get them, but they don't always work.
Simple. I don't watch commercial TV. I watch things on my own time. I'm watching BSG on DVD, just like I do with most other shows I want to watch because I can't stand commercials. And frankly, I was trying to have this mad rush to try and watch everything before the final episode, but whatever...
More to the point is that your post had nothing to do with the topic about BSG being at the UN. Hey, I have my beefs with the show too, but if there's a spoiler involved, I'll at least try to give someone a heads up.
Ask your future time-traveling self to get it for you. Just hope he's not a lazy, selfish bastard.

Something tells me I've seen this reply before. Oooooo....deja vu!

Really, any colorful metaphor would have worked.
And that's colourful metaphor for those across the pond can grok what I'm saying.
Funny how all of the swearing is following the BSG meme then. Frakking? Really? I would expect no less than a double dumbass on you!

Indeed, because it's 10am somewhere.
Fixed that for you.
Yes...yes you did.

God, do you ever check your facts? Seriously. Big, fat [citation needed] here.
At the time of the show's cancellation, Donahue had the highest ratings on MSNBC.

Strictly achievement whoring here. I mean, why change what I do in games?
Okay great! I'm here. What did I unlock by the achievement? Do I get a new Submit button that flashes up Hot Grits and Natalie Portman?
Excuse me, you just described my new fantasy.
And having sex once every seven years would be about right for you too.

You prick. Couldn't have at least had a spoiler warning on your title? I'm less bitter at Ron Moore and very bitter toward you.
That goes for the mod who bumped up your post to "interesting" as well. Frakking idiots.
