You can probably do what you ask for with Mozilla, but I do know you can do it with KHTML, one of the KParts of KDE. KHTML is quite a robust rendering engine - it's amazingly standards complient, and is all the more remarkable given the small amount of (though obviously smart) people working on it.
And unlike IE, you can tinker around with it if I doesen't fit your needs.
The Moz team should know full well that the only reason anyone uses Galeon, or KMeleon, is because Moz is too slow!
Not to take away from your post...
I think thats the point - The Mozilla team has been saying all along, "Take this technology and run with it! Do your own thing with it!"
The Mozilla team is happy that others are using their code, changing it and making cool stuff with it.
Rather than get bummed with the Mozilla team, we should say "thanks for making it modular" and go give encouragment to the Galeon and Kmeleon teams.
There's pleanty of room for all sorts of browsers on the internet - and I think that a one-size-fits-all stratigy will not serve users and developers well.
AFAIK, The West Nile virus is also carried by birds. Are they now terrorists? Just because somehing can be infectious, doesen't meen they are guilty of being a terrorist. As I understood it, terrorism implied intent.
I don't disagree with you one bit, on the need for education, but just on the concusion that an educatied population is free from terrortst thoughts.
A good example is Iran - smart and beautifull people, and yet a den of terrorism. Germans are considered smart and yet have been capable of great crimes.
It will be interesting to see if computing holds its promise for education - unfortunatly I'm a bit jaded and have seen how technology initially helps education but then turnd into edu-taiment in the long run. In the 50' - audio tape was the panacea (Hear wonderfull foreing peoples!), then TV in the 70's (Learn from the best educators), then in the 80's VCR/TV madd it's presence felt (and kids stated getting doses of comercials in school).
When computers first came on the education scene - they were wonderfull: kid were learning LOGO or BASIC. Now all I see them used for is browsing for porn, and instant messaging. Oh, and somtimes they get used as giant typewriters. If a kid brings a C compiler to school - he's likely to be branded as a hacker/terrorist.
Computers have gone form a complex tool to be experimented with, to a mostly passive form of media. Hopefully, with cheaper computing this will change again.
Some stimulant drugs (coke, meth) do seem to have a very similar though not identical effect,
Dude, It's not working! - I've chugged 2 leters of Coke and my entire body is conved in Mentholatum Deep Heating rub. The burning sensation in my genetals has stopped after the initial pain, and I've been peeing like a horse for the last hour. I've gotten nowhere near the 'Zone' but my dog is sniffing my exposed body and that feels nice...
There are some fun GSM phones no doubt - but due to the huge expense of Euopean cell coverage, I actually bring my "Friggin-Huge" Iridium phone to Europe. The call quality sucks, but to call back home it only $1.50 per min - I'm usre there a plan out there that's cheaper but I've been too lazy to find one. It's quite a conversation starter - "Ill parlez avec les etoiles" is the best I can do with my poor French skills.
The best thing about the phone, is that the landline originating caller pays for the entire call! I hand out the number with no fear.
Our phones are larger because they *do more* - see, America is a large place, with lots of spaces. Those spaces are served by analog cell service, and guess what: those analog sending-and-receiving things (we call them radios) add bulk to our phones.
Also, if we crazy-americans can't get out handgun out qucik enough, we can just beat and GSM totin' weasel-faced euro-toll with out CRAZY -HUGE CELL PHONES.
Note: Non San Francisco Americans will never refer to their cell phone as a 'handy'. God knows how the Europeans picked that habit up...but it must have somthing to do with the water. Or the Gremans. There up to somthing - I just know it.
Yes, there are a *bunch* of low-level suicide bombers. I'm not really worried about them...
The person we have to fear is the inteligent and well funded person who makes a drug-resistant bacteria, or a new virus, or a dirty bomb packed with "radioactive goodness!"
Based on body count, we should fear the smart ones. Kobar, 9-11, Oklahoma City - those are far more deadlier than the annoying rash of bus bombers.
The fun starts when one of these buggers figguers out how to read a Biology 101 textbook and combines it with uncle Bin Ladins moeny. Or some skin-head decided to play shower-time with the Ney York underground.
Ugh. I guess the only thing that would make a diference, is if we colonised other planets. Soon.
argument goes like this: terrorism is bred by poverty, and the only way out of poverty is literacy.
The trouble with this logic it that the predicate isen't even remotely true.
Almost all acts of terrorism against civilisation has been comitted by people who are above the poverty level - they have the education and means to carry out an attack. Regardless of their angnst of the stupid and poor against civilisation, they can't perpetrate large-scale terrorism. Sure they may kill a tourest now and then with a knife, but getting a dirty bomb together is beyond their means.
Notice that the IRA, Timothy McVey (sic) and Bin Ladin are are not poor. From experience, most members of the Black Panthers, Neo-Nazi's, Rainbow Push, and Greenpeace are usuually educated and with means. Ususally they are crafty debators, and know how to stay just inside the law. Usually they can mount expensive defences when brought into court.
I do agree that education is by itself noble, but the kind of education that would strip all will for terrorism, would allso strip the will for independent thought and is unfortunalty really just indoctrination.
Even mild forms of education indoctrination, like the "politically correct" movement leaves it's followes blindly trusting and easy to manupilate.
Civilisation is a wonderfull thing, but due to the fact that we communially share our resources and intelignece inorder to build it - it's making it aughfully easy for one nutcase to bring it all down.
Cosider, a first year biology student has the capability to make resistant bacteria. Ecoli, anitbiotics bought from a fist store, time and a warm agar from a japanses market - are all thats needed.
There is no easy solution, but unfortunatly the only methods at are disposal are all ugly: survalance, forced ignorance, indoctrination and fear.
Ugh - what a nasty future. We either survive in a harsh new world, or we die.
Sombody - please, come up with a better solution. Soon.
Great... let's kick out the intligent, hard-workiking, law-abiding H1B workers, and yet do NOTHING about the stupid, lazy and criminal types that we give 'asylum' or 'student visas' to.
Note: it wasen't H1B visa holders hijacking planes on the 11th, and I haven't seen a H1B holder at the food-bank or getting a welfare check.
What we need to allow, it the open selling of US citizenship rights by US citizens to anybody who wants it. Out H1B friends could buy the citizenship from a willing seller for cash - there whould be a bunch of crack-whores lined up to sell their citizenship for a few bucks.
I'm rather worried that during a meetup, a goatse.cx troll will quietly sneak off to the bathroom, strip down, prepare, and comeback as the goatse.cx dude. In person!
Ingredients:
Top-Ramen or other brand - Pork Flavor.
Worstishire Sauce - to taste (1 tea-spoon)
Sugar to taste (1 tea-spoon)
Prepare:
Boil noodles until tender, drain, add half of flavoring packet
Add Werstishier sauce and sugar to taste. Mix to coat and enjoy.
Cultural Note: Worstishire sauce is a western copy of Ease-Asian fish sauce. It shares the same roots as English Brown Sauce and Tomatoe Ketsup and Portuguese Fish Sauce.
Real dried Yakisoba can be purchased at most Japanese food stores - It's made by Nissin and has the English word 'BIG' written large on the package.
This recipe is primarily for those who live far from said store.
.... some idiot is going to combine this with an advertising banner. The skys, thirty years from now, will be filled with advertsising. Even at 30,000 - it would be economical to tow a *huge* fabric banner thats visible from the ground....
First - 3ware makes an excelent line of IDE hardware raid cards if your too cheap for SCSII.
Secondly - Windows Software raid will blow up in your face - especially Microsoft's version. If 'lost' three RAID arays to Promise, and four to Microsoft before getting a clue and forever forsaking crappy software. Windows Software RAID sucks so hard, that even if they fix it now, it's suckyness will caryover for years.
So you really have two choices for Windows RAID - SCSI or 3Ware.
Aside: Too bad Microsoft and Promise are too stupid to review NetBSD's RAIDframe - this is software RAID done right. Totally abuseable - you can pull out an IDE cable and it just keeps chugging along. Easy to set up as well - no guessing if it's going to work, it just does.
You mentioned that you had no security experience....
First things first - your database server should be behind a firewall. Databaases are big peices of software and it's unreasonable to assume that they are bug/exploit free.
Secondly - and importantly, consider using OpenBSD. It runs MySQL just fine, and importantly, it has good security built in. Instead of noodeling around with a Linux distribution to get it secure, with OpenBSD - you have to explicitly create the security holes yourself. It's no magic bullit but it's a good start.
If OpenBSD, for what ever reason, is not an option, I would still recommend you install Linux yourself - someone at your company needs to understand what it going on, and it looks like the learing experience would help.
If even that is not an option, get someone with Linux experience to do the install for you - it will be a better solution that buying a server and hoping it works out of the box. Someone needs to actually verify that the computer is working process wise, security wise and backup wise. And somthing form a box wont do that - you need sombody competent to verify.
The Mozilla nighly build of Tuesday on Windows - loads faster than IE6, and displays pages faster than IE6.
You would thing that web page loading is a solved probelm - that all browsers would grab crap of the internet and display it in the same time, but it apparently isn't. Mozilla is just faster.
Microsoft did this *heavly* for Win95 - they bussed in people to wait at the front door to be "first in line for the most adavnced os in the world!"
Jeseus - I'm a nerd and I woulden't wait ten seconds in line for a new version of Windows, even if they gave me the source code and a copy of MS Bob.

terrorism is caused by poverti is well established
By who? Chomsky?
Care to cite staticstics?
I'll go you one futher -
What is known, is that *state* sponsered terrorism dwarfs the poverty-caused terrorism you mention, and the middle-class caused terrorism I mentioned.
Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot have killed over 100 million people - way more than any rag-tag group of poor, or evem people like Bin Ladin.
The higher up the food chain you go the more effective the killing.
Sure the poor are pised, but they are ineffective. That's why they're poor - they are either lazy or not in a position of power.
It's the rich, or the nation states, or the corportation - somthing large, that has the means to kill us all.
Just curious, what is wrong when the person who calls my phone gets stuck with all the charges? Why should I be charged just to answer my phone?

Been looking in the mirror recently? Everybody was being civil - untill you decided to open your mouth.
Sigh. I guess the Chomsky classes diden't teach you civil respect, for yourself, or for others.
Let's see here... 1993-2002 is roughly 20 years?
It is if you're using base 5 - due to a tragic accident involving penut-butter, weasels, and a large bowling-ball; and thus only have one hand.

Ammend that to:
End the untrusted Windows binary problem.
OpenBSD users have been using trusted sources for a long time with the signed_exec kernel patch. I imagine that there are equivelents in most *nix.
