    Makes sense to me, as a non-mathhead.

    The Jacobian seems to be defined as a ratio of the "space" inside to the unit space with the given number of dimensions.

    As you approach an infinite number of dimensions, the size of the unit space tends toward infinity (in relative terms); the ratio of the hypersphere's volume to the unit space becomes infinitesimally small.

    Cool, huh? I hope it's not nonsense.

    Just set RSYNC_RSH=ssh (which you should have done anyway), and use 'rsync -a'. Copies not just symlinks but other attributes (rather like scp -p).

    Then add '-H' to preserve hard links. (Why isn't -H part of -a? Oh well.)

    If it's truly an open source license, this is only good news--Linux and/or the BSDs will be able to use the best bits. If it's just a "shared source" head-fake like Microsoft has tried to pull with some of their stuff, well, then Sun will solidify their position as Grand Moff Tarkin to Microsoft's Vader.

    Intermittent gcc errors are a classic symptom of a memory problem; gcc, entirely by accident, is one of the best memory testers around. I used to work for VA Linux, and parallel kernel compilations were a standard part of our pre-ship burn.

    Yes, the language that evolved in an essentially smooth line from Perl 1.0 to Perl 5.8 is indeed coming to the end of its active development and entering the comfortable retirement of maintenance.

    But Perl's creators and users aren't ready to quit.

    That's why there's a Perl 6. :-)
