    It doesn't work on my Gentoo Linux boxes either!

    (Obviously the parent is just trying to push their pro-Debian agenda!)

    Although it does bring up.. how much do/can you trust a repository? An md5 check will tell you that what you grabbed is what you wanted to grab, but whose to say that what your grabbing hasn't been manipulated in some way?

    I think the lack of games is what will keep me on G+ actually.. (and if they don't put it on G+, it'll also be what helps keep FB relevant to the 'in' crowd).

    Now they just need to implement a feature request or two I asked for, and it'd make G+ perfect for what I'd be looking for.

    OK.. we've had 3d prototyping printers for a while, changing the medium you're prototyping with isn't 'OMG NEWS!' it's 'oh hai, we twiddled some bits and adjusted
    some temps.. now it can do chocolate too instead of resin!'
    I mean.. MakerBot has been around for 2 years already, and I have demos of industrial Rapid Prototyping machines (a handy working spanner wrench!) for over a decade.

    Am I the only person that says 'OK we made 3d printers.. so now we can print almost anything form 3D so long as someone engineers the misc bits'.. want to print outa Steel? can't see why you couldn't, although there are some various engineering feats that need to be worked out, but no reason you couldn't. (and I don't think it'd be as strong as die-cast?).. basic tech adaption shouldn't be the realm of PhDs.. either someone is bored, overeducated, or is just hogging the claim.

    Do we really need to celebrate the birthday of every person that was a remote genius, and more importantly dead?

    True, he was a great person (I had to build a Garden to get that 25% bonus to produce him, i'll have you know!), but there were at least thousands of others.. do we celebrate de Vinci's birthday? Babbages? Lady Ada?.. no.. so maybe we can get over this whole bday thing? kthx.

    PS: I celebrate Turing every day by using crypto in my daily computing anyway..

    They arrested 3 people, the Egyptian Government, and other targets, while they were in Spain?.. odd.. must have been there on holiday? I mean I know the Egyptian government isn't as stable as it once was... oh well.

    Probably.

    NASA employees can sometimes get Employee-Car Passes to the launches (assuming they don't have to work said launch). I know you can get Causeway 'seating' that way.. someone with more cred might be able to get something closer though.

    I'd guess this would become a class action suit .. and assuming it is judged against Sony, the actual awarded damages to plaintiffs would end up being pretty small.. I'd guess sub-$100USD/person [to cover things like 'loss of functionality to the network' and covering additional credit monitoring products.. etc..].. there could be additional assessed penalties/fines based on the findings of the court, and of course the lawyers will probably be able to retire afterwards.

    Fixed that for you.
    Lets be real, no single lawsuit of this nature would even come close to toppling something like Sony (from just the lawsuit.. it's possible it might negatively affect sales down the road.. but there will still be tons of people that buy Sony products regardless of what happens with the current PSN/breach thing)

    Also, you're forgetting by doing this, they are increasing the pool of persons that are familar with working on the engine.. in theory increasing the number of smaller startups..

    Successful small companies become bigger companies.. == more games == more sales == more commission/shares for the Engine company.

    It's a business move, and one I can agree with.

    I say this as an Epic fanboi (Except for cliffyB.. he's a smacktard because he says dumb things)..
    Myth (by Bungie before they turned evil^H^H^H^Hinto a M$/console tool) came out with their map/tag tools, I know it shipped with Myth 2 (1998), but I was pretty sure it was available for Myth 1 as well at some point, and there ended up being some pretty sweet mods for Myth 1 & 2.
    Actually, going back and poking some more, Marathon even had an official toolset released and map contest.. (circa 96)...

    I really did love Bungie before they put out Halo... sigh... anyway

    You are correct though, there a ton of people modding even Wolf3d before Doom or Quake was on the scene.. .

    Does 'Adventure Construction Set' count as an officially-supported-mod-platform? And heck that's just my personal game-modding experience.. I know for a fact some of hte older/more-crusty types did a ton of stuff before me..

    You don't have to duck if you're an AC :]

    But AC's point was that datacenters will still use alot of spinning disk until SSDs get a comparable $/byte ratio. Building a 100TB SAN array out of SSDs would run many times that of doing it with traditional spinning disk.

    I'm not saying it won't happen, just saying we're probably 3-5 years away from it.

    Because the current generation of users are just that.. USERS.. the previous generation of users? guess what.. users as well. Users don't want to be bothered with learning all the ins and outs, they just want it to work.
    Not everyone can know everything.. or more importantly, bother with taking the time to learn it. I don't read up on the fine points of Class-5 Phone switches, but I still expect my phone to work when I pick up the receiver.
      (Actually that's a lie, I switched to IP telephony a while ago, but it illustrated my point)..

    Science fiction is not the only genre or category to suffer. A&E and Bravo were concieved as outlets for artsy movies. MTV used to show music videos and be about, well, music. What kind of programs do these channels show now?

    You forgot about how 60% of the History Channel's programming seems to be about things like how Aliens gave us every technology discovered in the last 2000 years. Which is funny given how it'd be perfectly acceptable to me for that to be on the SyFy channel.. the H in 'History Channel' now no longer means Hitler.

    the iPhone can do PPtP tunnels.. I haven't played on my Nokia N800, but I'm positive it can do it as well.. and I can't see any reason why you couldn't do it on an Android. I believe the Crackberry has such a large business-centric user-base, I'd be very sup

    Setting up and using an encrypted tunnel is pretty basic and most recent generation phones you'd even want to bother 'surfing' on should be able to do this. So if you're shopping for a new device, I'd just add this to a check-box list of features you want, and focus on other things.

    Largely, I'm with you.. but I think it's more about things in the future like 'oh.. you are gonna have prostate cancer and will be prone to clinical depression, and this here genetic marker indicates you will be homosexual, and this one says you have a small penis and offensive body-odor'..

    Based on those things, persons might choose to treat him different.. I guess?

    Until we find the gene sequence that shows you're more prone to effective advertising or that you're better at paying your mortgage on time, it's still as far as I can see, largely more about physical traits.
