  1. Skype is an interesting challenge on eBay's Lobbying Efforts May Include the CIA · · Score: 1

Skype is just another peer-to-peer app - I'm not exactly sure how eBay could cut the CIA into it. My guess would be if the CIA had access to most/all of the core Internet routers and could listen in on the traffic, then eBay could find a way of getting them a user's private key. Skype uses 1024-bit RSA Public keys to set up AES-256 encryption, so it's unlikely the government would be able to reliably break it on their own.

Well, I thought that was globalisation? I am Mr. Gamer and I want to buy product GAME that is $$$ here and $ there. Due to the regulation you praise, I must pay $$$ for the product. Fine. Now I am Mr. Company and I want to buy product PROGRAMMER that is $$$ here but only $ there. Should not the same regulation apply? The same regulation DOES apply. The Corporation can block YOU from buying their product from overseas markets. At the same time, YOU can refuse to buy from corporations that use overseas labor.

I have only used the PS1 compatibility on my PS2 to play a Dance Dance Revolution game and Diablo PS1. I don't have enough connections to my AV system to have a PS3 & PS2 along side my Wii, DVD player, and Dish Network box, so until I'm done with my PS2 library, I probably won't be buying a PS3.

The idea is that you can't give something to people and then take it away - it's bad for any business. If their plan was to eliminate PS2 compatibility in a year, they should have never put it in to begin with.

Remember that eBay has also dramatically scaled back their advertising on Google and is still doing very well. Of course, the name recognition for eBay is probably far greater than that of your small company, but it does go to show that there *could* be rough seas ahead for Google.

I agree, and it's an argument I've made for some time. The jump from DVD to HiDef DVD is simply not as dramatic as the jump from VHS to DVD. Outside of computer generated movies, nothing looks spectacularly better to me. I'll eventually get a player when they are cheap, but won't be shelling out big bucks for one now.

...and realize there is a huge market out there for a console that will allow AO games? Can't they just have parental lockout for games with a certain rating, just like DVR's and TV's do now? Why does the entire industry push forward this notion that video games are played primarily by children?

I second the nod for Slysoft, although there is no real reason to buy CloneDVD. AnyDVD + DVDShrink (freeware) will copy almost anything without issues. The exception tends to be newer movies by Sony, although you can rip them to disk with AnyDVD and then burn them with DVDShrink without problem - it just requires that one extra step that's not needed with CloneDVD. Also, they offer HD-DVD and BluRay support, but it does cost extra.
