On the other hand, guidebooks for destroying railroad tracks server no other purpose than destroying railroad tracks in attempts to disrupt the service, with the unfortunate possibility of killing people.
But then again, information in itself has never harmed anyone. What harms is the practical use of that information and that is what is and should be illegal. Not publishing the information.
If we banned all information on how to blow things up and how to murder evil dictators, how many books, movies and documentaries would not need to be banned? I for one think that is too high a price to pay for banning people like these from publishing their ideas on the internet. As far as I know, none of the ideas in their manifesto has been used yet. So, arrest the bad guys if they are really stupid enough to use the material.
As you said, the industry would probably be very reluctant to sell songs in digital form without any kind of copy protection, which is the reason why you can't download most CDs today. And that raises another interresting question: What rights would you have to make copies of these songs when they are downloaded and paid for? Could you copy the songs to a CD for your stereo, your portable MP3 player and still keep a copy on your computer? Of course this would not stop most people from copying them as they like, but what would really be legal? As far as I can tell the article did not say anything about restrictions.
Not to talk about how slow it would load from cassette. Brings back the memories of playing "Red storm rising", that came on three fully loaded cassettes. Before each battle you'd have to load through all the casettes (which took about 45 minutes) and then play for about 15 minutes. Reapeat all over. It was a good lesson in patience.:)
I am not so sure about that. Yes, power users will always find the console mode commands, but most users that start using KVim probably will continue using the menu commands until... well, forever. I know several people that has been using windows, word and other ms products for years, who still go into the menues for cut, copy and paste.
And the channels they want to monitor are probably not that easy to join either, one might guess. Of course they could force some ircop or something like that to grant them access, but that would make the users of the channel very aware of their precense. And there are also ways to encrypt your irc chats, I don't really know how heavy the crypto is, but it would probably make their job a little bit tougher.
I didn't know that you "surf IRC" or that it is "one of the oldest chat technologies on the Web". You have to give credit to good old news centrals that spread enlightment among the people. Now I know better than before.
Pfff, just make sure those stupid little Aibo thingies follow the Laws of Robotics. Then we will have a lot less problems with lawsuits caused by Aibo-bitten elderly citizens.
Why don't you use Opera, the browser that invented tabbed browsing? And btw, it was me that suggested Opera to use tabs, so you all owe tabbed browsing to me.:-)
Well, seriously, I have no proof they wouldn't have figured it out by them selves, but I suggested it to them and in the next version it was there.
Nope, exactly the same deal. It reminds me a lot of the fuzz when Nintendo threatened to boycott swedish game shops that sold used games. If people then defended the shops right to sell used stuff, why wouldn't the same go for Amazon. Every book Amazon sell by an author contribute to his fame (if it is any good, that is) and will earn him money in the long run. If people didn't have the option to buy much cheaper used books or borrow them at the library, many probably woudn't be read at all.

JPEG2000 Coming Soon

The thing that could break this scheme is the time consumption when decoding JPEG2000 images. We ran some tests at the university a while ago. Even though much more compressed.jp2 images more often than not looked better than less compressed.jpg, the decoding time was very noticable on a PII-500MHz.
Given that it was some months ago and that the decoding algorithms are probably getting faster, I still doubt it would be convenient using this format on PDAs anytime soon.
Eh, I guess the lack of "using the facilities" is present in most forms of art. You can't find many toilet scenes in books or movies either, unless there is something to be told by the characters need to visit the porcelain cruiser (Dumb & dumber anyone)?.
After trying these clients out separately for a while, I came to the conclusion that Poco mail fitted my list best. Not that it was outstanding in any way, the bat! and Kaufman was almost as good. I didn't like the interface of the bat though, and Kaufman, though very nice, had some problems with replying to HTML mails. The only things with poco that didn't fit my wish list is that it is not free and that it needed installation. Otherwise great program. I will be keeping an eye on Kaufman MW though. If some small details are improved, the client will rock.
If you know another WIN32 mail client that fits my wish list pretty close, please tell me. (Never satisfied:)
Since it isn't a military device, it will probably be very noisy, which probably would make the navy check out what it could be before torpedoing it. I guess they could probably identify it as "not that goddamn annoying u-cruiser again" on acoustic signature only.
What did happen roughly six months ago was the beginning...
Yes, according to some science press, american scientist have been very interrested in the 10 - 20 stem cell lines here in sweden that have been developed according to the "bush rules". Apperently, some scientists are considering moving their research here and some of them will fund projects at swedish universities. Bad for america, good for us.
Yes, when you rephrase it like that, I can very much agree with you. It was the notion that we shouldn't cure a suffering individual for the public good that scratched my nerves. I really really do contempt all events where some individual should suffer because of some greater good for (some) society. In your case the disorder seem to be something you value, and therefore, should not be removed. The part that I think is really important is that it is you that value it, which also gives that nooene should do anything to anyone without their expressed consent... Now I am getting way offtopic, but...
I might be misinformed, but, didn't he just shut down the federal government funding of resaerch on embryonic stem cells and made it illegal to produce new lines completely?
Not that it is signicicant to this article, since they obviously have been using adult stem cells in this case, but anyway. If you are really sure that it is still legal to produce embryonic stem cells and have some links to confirm it, please post them (no sarcasm intended). Because then most swedish scientific news has got the meaning of the US laws wrong.:)
Anyone could start new lines with private funding.
Afaik that is not true. Bush banned the development of new embryonic stem cells ~6 months ago. The congress is even discussing a ban on importing embryonic stem cells.
Sure, they could always try to get new lines from adult stem cells, but those attemps has so far not been very successful.
Information has no will, people on the other hand often want information to be free.

I have not tested Lunix, so I am in no position to say how good it is. But why do you think it sucks?

I was not aware of that. Then you owe tabbed browsing to me and Holger. ;)
But of course I am. Most people worship me anonymously.

I think I read somewhere that this technology was first developed for use in the Comanche helicopter.
The cannon and missiles were supposed to follow where your eyes looked, or something.
Not need to be installed (no tampering with the system).
Be able to import Eudora adress books.
Be as small as possible.
Have an easy-to-use adress book.
Be freeware if possible.
Be configurable (looks, fonts, etc.).
Be able to handle multiple accounts.
Be able to read/remove HTML.
:)
Pegasus and Eudora was both too large, so the list was narrowed down to:
Kaufman Mail Warrior.
Opera browser mail.
Poco mail
The bat!

Yes, you seem to be right and I seem to be wrong. My mistake but not entirely my fault. I blame the swedish press. :)

Glad we straightened that out.

Oh, so we should not trust the usual scientific press in this case? Instead we should trust "America's premiere conservative website"?

The matter is not what I would think, but what that child would think about it.
Red pill: Pro: You will paint great pictures. Con: You will get a short life in misery, that ends with a suicide.
Blue pill: Pro: You will lead a (relatively) happy life. Con: You might loose a grain or two of your artistic abilities.
Which pill would you choose?
If you actually suggests that we should let someone that is mentally ill stay that way, because "he paints so pretty pictures", then you make me sick.
