    I put large weights in terms of n*(the curb weight of my car) so using the hooker form of currency isn't that far of a stretch.

    Yeah but a hooker is only good for one thing. You could call this monitor the Swiss Army Hooker. I mean, it can show more than one hooker at a time and when your hands are idle and you're not in the mood, you can play games too. I mean, sure, this thing probably cost about 20 hookers but can you play WoW on a hooker?

    I heard a little blurb in there about it being powered by oznium LEDs. This monitor is powered by the same brand of LEDs I used to rice a car a while back! One thing I will say: those little suckers are bright!

    If you want an 11 second car, the first thing to do is lose the A/C. It drops about 40 lbs of weight and it's less crap for your crank to have to deal with. My 11 second car has only the alternator hooked to the crank as an accessory.

    Megasquirt was a pain in the ass. But I took my good old time with installing and tuning it and everything turned out fine.

    OK. Go ahead and enable WMA support on iPods. People can put their crappy 64kbps wmas on their iPods and not notice a difference. But for the rest of us who actually give a crap about the sound quality of the music we listen to, our choices for music on an iPod remain essentially the same... so no difference there. Really is this an issue?

    Is it just me or does anyone else think Lenovo is taking IBM's reputation for rock-solid business-oriented computers and using it to become the Chinese version of Dell? I've been using IBM computers for close to 20 years. I started-out with an XT. I'm writing this message from my ThinkCentre. I've also had a few ThinkPads along the way for work and for personal use. I guess you could say that I'm a fan.

    I would hate to see the legacy of just plain good computers be pissed away. Of course, I haven't seen the new line in person yet so this is all speculation. Also, Lenovo != IBM. So why are my expectations so high of them?

    I get the feeling that you're European. When it comes to news from within the US (politics, etc.), BBC and Reuters are generally less biased than other outlets like the New York Times, SeeBS (sic), Fox News, NBC, ABC, CNN, and other outlets from the 'States.

    I don't care if Nicole Ritchie had a loose bowel movement today. Or any of that "believe and achieve" bullshit. News is news. If I wanted this brand of news, I would turn on MTV.

    For quite a few years now, the only place I have gone for objective reporting on real American news is the BBC and Reuters. So I suppose the world hasn't gone mad. Only American media has.

    Sure he might be of the tech industry. That doesn't mean that what he has to say is interesting. I read through half of the article before filing it in the "no shit" drawer.

    All it will take for an interesting tech year is Duke Nukem Forever to come out. That will fix this whole mess.

    IBM Thinkcentre A50 8148-26U with the aforementioned specs. The only thing that's different from the specs mentioned in the link is that that I'm using an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 AGP video card instead of the on board video. I know it's a bit out-dated compared to yours. This might explain our differences in idle usage.

    Norton? pfft. Whoever runs that crap is insane! I forgot to include that I had a few sidebar widgets running. One of which being the CPU/Memory Tachometer thing. I really can't explain the apparently high idle beyond that. But that was about what I was getting with XP.

    I'm running it with 1GB of ram and a 3.0GHz P4 just fine. It was a real dog when I first installed it. But after a few tweaks its quick and my processor idle is at about 11%. I was getting the same with XP.

    In deed it is slow and bloated out of the box. But when you disable UAC, turn the theme to "Windows Classic", turn off whatever Vista is using instead of dumprep, and turn off all of the startup processes, Vista can be just as economical with resources as XP. But the hard drive footprint versus what you get for it is a real head-scratcher. What the hell could be taking-up all of that space? Maybe there's some Hi-Def porn stashed in an Easter Egg somewhere in the %windir% directory.

    At least every time I've installed Vista the disk preparation utilities worked like a charm. ME on the other hand, I had to mess around with a Win 98 boot disk.
    Also, the only problems I can find from a user perspective in Vista is that UAC is annoying as hell. With ME, I would have systemic problems right off the bat. That OS was just plain junk right off the bat. Nothing anyone could do could make it work right. The annoyances with Vista can at least be fixed with unchecking a few boxes.

    I know I probably should run everything as a limited user etc. in the name of security. But I don't out of convenience. I don't want to have to be annoyed with an operating system as much as I was annoyed with Vista. [Fixed that one] But, granted, it is easier to enable root access in both Ubuntu and Fedora than it is to get true administrator access in Vista!

    How is Linux ever supposed to be successful if we have all of this in-fighting? I have used both and find it difficult to decide which is the better operating system. They both have their strengths and weaknesses.

    Ubuntu is easy to install and easy to use. It runs smoothly on older machines. But I find the use of

    sudo
    before doing anything of value to be irritating.

    Fedora has many different options for what desktop environment to install right out of the gate. Also it comes with many features that I find value-added. I find the clean interface flattering to the eye. But I don't like how

    yum
    takes so long to fetch a list of applications. Most of the time it takes longer than the app install just to get the name of the app on the screen.

    Man my productivity would increase in and out of work. My muscles get enough rest sitting in an idle state at my desk for 8 hours a day as it is. It's almost like they get a full-night's rest. If only my brain would stay awake past 2 in the afternoon...

    1) Think if your organization has 5000 desktops and each has a spare 100GB that is 50TB of backup storage that is not used. 2008 will be the year we will serious start to look at distributed disk to disk backups. Something like a distributed RAID volume striped over multiple machines?! BRILLIANT!
