Amen! I have a Mac, a FC7 Laptop and IBM Thinkcenter at home and a Suse desktop at work. But as for friends who want my recommendation for a Windows version: XP SP2 with some decent virus protection and some "don't click that" know-how.
This will only be a monopoly deal until competitors complain and then it will be like just another utility. Everyone will use the same equipment but be billed by different companies. I'm saying billed in reference to a "free service" because this is going to be free until the local governments and companies realize that they're losing money on this.
As it stands, here is the business plan:
Spend millions on infrastructure.
????
Cost recovery/Profit
Anyone would be a fool to invest in such a venture as it stands.
It sounds as if there is another Universal Constant that has been discovered but not fully understood yet. Understanding of this incredible discovery could help us with scientific advancements on Earth for years to come.
If any computer system, no matter what manufacturer, needs to be made insecure and/or instable to be useable, the system is broken and should get a serious redesign before being released onto the public. Simple as that. Exactly why I don't use Vista.
Service Pack 1 won't exactly make Vista more desirable as an OS; but it is a psychological landmark that says "we worked most of the bugs out and we're finally done with it". Businesses may bite; but I'm not 100% convinced that Vista is better than XP quite yet.
They could do like/. did with the whole goatse thing (back when that was all the rage) and show the domain name next to the link. This would leave it up to the users' discretion whether to click or not to click.
Wow! You guys really had me going there for a moment. I mean, if AT&T really did stop time, what rules would apply? Timecop rules or Back to the Future rules?
*Dusts off tinfoil hat* Are we supposed to cower in fear because of this supposed interior spy network? Remember: we answer to the government and the government answers to Smith & Wesson.
"The Dalai Lama 'refuses to be reborn in Tibet so long as it's under Chinese control.'"
I seem to remember a few years ago seeing a news story about a boy named Sonam from Seattle, WA who was supposedly the reincarnation of the Panchen Lama. If it's a sign of things to come, the next Dali Lama might be a North American.
Collecting bonus money from activations isn't really in Apple's business model. So why should they even bother with trying to hault cracking of the iPhone? The product has already been sold. Apple made their official dollar off of it. Their interests should really die there. It's not like crackers are replacing the Apple components of the software; just defeating the AT&T parts.
From TFA, it sounds like "Gutsy Gibbon" is more like "Glitchy Goat" as an alpha. I'm kinda curious how it will turn-out after the beta testing is done. I mean, with all the hype and good reviews surrounding Ubuntu, I can see this as dominating the other MythTV-infused distros out there.
As for TFA, bench testing an alpha versus go-live products is hardly fair.
Someone mod this guy +1 Interesting please.
What kind of data rates are you seeing with the $59.99 package? And what would you get with their "all/everything/yes" package?
That being said, application service provisioning seems to be farther off than I had originally thought. If a company who makes the product being served can't keep their servers running, I can see businesses balking at the idea and electing for more traditional, desktop apps.
What's the word I'm looking for? Oh yeah! Scapegoat!
You say "asshats making worms". I say "people creating job security for us IT guys". Sad that its come to this.
If the development of this vehicle is as rapid as that of the automobile or the aircraft, expect to see wide-spread use in another 20 years or so.
It incited you to do something didn't it?
It's not like they haven't violated copyrights... they just got better attorneys.

This SP full of patches still probably won't prevent people from deleting their Recycle Bin, end the UAC nazi tyranny and let admins do admin things with computers. Once MS figures-out a way to make Vista useful without all those annoyances and brick walls, then I may give it another look.
I know I'm going to -1 Flamebait hell for this; but if a Windows box has to be insecure in order to be useful, then so be it.

I was unaware of such a tool. o_O I'll have to use that in the future.
Try these on for size:
Amorous Antelope
Crusty Carp
Windows NT kernel version 5.1
That's a lot of reading. Can someone sum it up in 5 words or less for us lazy people? Thanks in advance.
Gutsy Gibbon? What about Glitchy Goat? It sounds more applicable at this stage of development.

It's the technology that's making our kids stupider. The boobtube has done its damage.
I know, I know... Get off my lawn!!
AHHHH! It's business school all over again! *head explodes*

Here's an article that better explains my point of view because I'm an ineloquent rambling idiot.

Just my $0.02.
