    The next issue is, are they similar enough to reproduce with us, and give fertile offspring. That's a huge issue nobody would want to touch.

    If you run this during the winter, the heat generated from the computer/console can heat your home. It isn't a very efficient heater, but it is doing something useful.

    Except that the current generation consoles are always on. The console is listening for the remote on by the controller, and the Wii even goes on WiFi by itself with not on.

    The consoles also generate a lot more heat, especially the 360 and PS3, which if it is summer will cause your house to use more AC (although conversely the heat can warm your house in the winter).

    Power usage IS much higher because of consoles these days.

    It's the same exact problem.

    Even if I pull numbers out of my ass and say that small % of the human population want illegal drugs, there's also a small population that responds to spam, sadly, wanting cheap viagra, etc.

    The difference next to nothing.

    The reason why Ubuntu 8.10 has better wireless capabilities is because in the newer Linux kernel, it has more wireless support. This is in the kernel itself now, not external drivers.

    Being generally knowledgeable about computers and hardware, so that you can repair and diagnose most common computer problems?

    Using find | grep?

    Using the console in general?

    How to force a write of all cache to the hard disk (run sync)?

    Etc.

    4. why do these games cost money? why can't they just GPL it?

    Quake series, Doom series (except 3, but soon it will be), and lots of other games are GPL but not free.

    You pay for the maps, sound, graphics, etc. The engine is free.
