Other surprising claims from this conference: that the Sun may not be the ideal kind of star to nurture life, and that the Earth may not be the ideal size.
> 25% of revenue or.14 cents/song (whichever is greater)
I would love to hear the logic behind this structuring. Why is 25% of revenue OK for large stations, but for small stations with low revenue, they must pay a fixed fee?
Wait, why? These are completely unrelated, and the game types are completely different. How do you play a FPS or a RTS (which account for most of the PC games) using a Wiimote?
The Wii has a few FPSes with great controls. Metroid Prime 3 comes to mind immediately, give it a try some time.
I haven't played an RTS on the Wii, but the obvious answer would be that you could use the wiimote pointer just a mouse.
The biggest problem in this from my perspective, is that the traditional media was able to influence an open effort on the web to keep this censored.
No, they were able to influence an effort on a single web site, with the cooperation of the site's owner and administrators, to keep it censored. That's not difficult at all.
FEMA conducts exercises all the time. The Federal Emergency Management Agency wouldn't be very effective if they never practiced managing emergencies.
Many may say that I am being too conspiratorial in this, but are there not many examples of our country doing similar things throughout history to start a war?
Generally speaking, if I am paying for something, I feel entitled to the results or products it produces.
Unfortunately thats not how the government works. I get to foot the bill but I have no say in the product lifecycle.
If you buy lumber, you don't expect mulch for free.
I'd love for them to find a way to keep giving out this data, but it's a byproduct of a defense project. If you feel safe from a foreign military force then you're getting what you paid for.
That cool down phase is on winter because the electricity is of much higher price at that time (this is not some village in Minnesota, this is in Switzerland and due to everyone having the heating on in winter, the electricity price is much higher in that period).
Minnesota is very cold in the winter. Colder than Switzerland, on average.
I suppose "rational" was a poor choice of words. One could certainly make a well-reasoned argument for that the film and record industries need to change with the times (and I wouldn't disagree).
You could also argue for reordering western civilization against the pursuit of wealth, but most people, even if they supported that idea, would have to admit that it's a pretty tall order.
I was more referring to the, "WAAAH! I don't want to pay for stuff!" crowd, which I've never perceived to be a majority.
Or it could that the rational part of Slashdot's audience never actually supported anyone's right to download copyrighted material without paying, but objected their to their hijacking and circumventing the legal system to protect said material.
In this case, the poster freely admits he did exactly what he was accused of. He isn't being persecuted by the RIAA, he is in blatant violation of the terms of his residency and his university is simply enforcing the policy he agreed to (perhaps without reading the contract).
Oh I get her characters being creepy. This thing I'm talking about was one of those promotional things that periodically shows up during the commercials. It was for the premier of Dollhouse and Terminator moving to Friday. Where they were "themselves" promoting the shows.
And if you like that effect, you should have seen this thing. I'm sure that in real life Summer Glau is a real person with feelings, but it was watching Keanu Reeves.
They have ships that can move from planet to planet with relative ease (and seemingly great speed) and yet they still used 6-shooters and shotguns as their weapon of choice. WTF Mate?
Why not use them? Metal flying at very high velocities will probably still be dangerous in the future.
But it IS exactly like that - the basic plot has not changed, ever - always exactly one "good guy" and one "bad guy" sent back in time and they duke it out for survival of humanity.
You didn't watch far enough to get to the point where the did change that.
As a very short synopsis, the main plot has not changed.
In the main plot's defense, it's about self-fulfilling prophecy, if they stray too far it stops making any sense. (See the series finale for an example)
That said, I expect she'll be back as a Doll next season and cement her own typecasting.
I hope not. In that little marketing thing she did with Eliza Dushku to promote the premier of Dollhouse she was more wooden and zombie-like than her emotionless character, but with a smile. It was creepy.
Not that I blame her. Mindless promotional material for the network that fired you before and will inevitably be firing you again in a couple of months probably isn't most inspirational thing in the world.
Yeah, because the warlords will be so impressed with your pretty handwriting that they won't kill you and eat you.
Cursive will be even less useful once civilization tanks.

Seems to have worked out fine so far.
There was a time when people expected computers to be fast. But I guess in the world of web applications that dream will end.
Computers *are* fast. Fast enough that people can have the relatively slow-running web apps they love. You're free not to use them of course.
I'll get off your lawn now.

Sure thing:
var a = PERCENTAGE_RATE;
var b = FIXED_FEE;
if ( a > b ) {
collect(a);
} else {
collect(b);
}
That would be an awesome discount.
There's already a $36 annual fee if you want unlimited listening and no ads.

Duh. Everyone knows that the "X" is for Xtreme! It's Xtreme HTML, right?
Brought to you by Doritos, Mountain Dew and the W3C.

Starship Troopers?
He's not a security expert, but he IS a useability expert (even though I, a non-expert, often disagree with some of the things he writes).
He's the seventh grade English teacher of usability experts. Everything he says is useful the first time you hear it, but most of it is wrong.
Also, don't forget that FEMA is planning major exercises around the country in late July.
Indeed. The curious can read about it here: https://www.fema.gov/media/fact_sheets/nle09.shtm

But they hate you because of your freedom. If you have no freedom they will no longer hate you, and you will be safe.
...
PROFIT?

However, I think Mirror's Edge has shown that 3D platforming can work, too.
Really? I played the demo and came to exactly the opposite conclusion.
The FBI isn't a spy agency...
Actually, they are. The FBI is largely responsible for intelligence gathering and counter-intelligence within the US.

The AC was right, but he probably should have left of the "Shithead" part. Or someone with mod points left their sarcasm detector at home.
A version for Linux or OS X would be nice.
This is incredibly sad. How hard can it be with their resources to include Mac and Linux?
If you're on Mac, try Safari 4. They both use Webkit, it's pretty nice, fast, and is very similar to Chrome in the terms of the look and UI.
Personally, I feel naked without Firebug.

Summer Glau and Morena Baccarin are "hot". Jewel Staite is "lumpy dumpy".
Jewel Staite is wicked hot. She had to gain weight for Firefly.
