  1. Re:not much historic data on hole on Antarctic Ozone Hole Shrinks 30 Percent · · Score: 1

Also, let's not forget that 7 astronauts indirectly lost their lives because of our concern for this so-called "hole in the Ozone Layer."

We were so worried about the use of spray-on CFC-14 affecting the ozone layer, that in 1995, we switched to glued-on HCFC 141b foam. Guess what? Glue doesn't stick very well to a tank that contains liquid nitrogen and liquid hydrogen. Try gluing a piece of foam to a frozen metal pole that is vibrating. Good luck.

It was that glued-on foam that broke away from the external tank and struck Columbia's right wing reinforced carbon-carbon tiles, which in-turn led to the orbiter's break-up during re-entry.

So, boy, we *think* we helped save the ozone layer ... in theory. But it's NO THEORY that 7 astronauts died on STS-107.

Does man really think he is so MIGHTY and significant in this world that he can actually open and close the ozone layer by using or not using aerosol spray cans? Chew on this: the ozone layer is directly influenced by solar activity. That's right - the SUN dictates how our atmosphere behaves (any ham radio operator can vouch for the solar cycle influencing the ionosphere), not man. I think we're mighty ARROGANT to assume we have any significant influence on our GLOBAL environment.

I'm nto worried that they'll "pick up 'liberal ideas'", I'm worried that "liberal ideas" are the ONLY ideas that will be forced upon them. There are NO conservative teachers anymore - at least none that will admit to it out of fear that they'll be chastised (or worse) by their union bretheren. So if all teachers are liberal, or at least go under the guise of being liberal, then how are our classrooms balanced? Answer: they aren't any more balanced than the mainstream media is.

I think you missed the point, Anonymous Coward.

Amen! You're a minority, you know? The vast majority of young voters are democrat because their teachers have forced their partisan beliefs on their classes. Why? Because the teacher's union has the democrat party in their backpockets. If Republicans are in power, the unions don't get all of the $$$ to line their wallets. My wife and I are working on our first child and I know that when he/she goes to school, I'm going to have to unteach all of the liberalism that will be forced upon him/her. It's sad.

In Jurassic Park III, they show something similar - a fossil of a Velociraptor was used to create a 3D copy of the Raptor's vocal cavity. Dr. Grant used the copy (he blew into one end and a Raptor vocal sound was produced) to confuse the swarming raptors before the helicoptors came to the rescue.

  8. Possible Flooding as result of Isabel on Amateur Radio Braces for Hurricane Isabel · · Score: 3, Interesting

The last thing we need in Ohio is more rain (we're already over 9 inches above normal for the year), and Isabel threatens to add more precipitation to our area. Since we're so over saturated, nearly every time it rains, our areas go into automatic flood watch. As amateur radio operators, my wife and I provided communications for the American Red Cross for flood victims in the Stark County area in late July. Looks like we might be called to action again.

Actually, all he'd have to do is show her is chest. Recall, he cut out the skin on his chest to remove the first damaged power supply. He didn't grow back that skin.

One other thing that pissed me off about T3 was yet another inconsistency between it and T2: In T2, recall that the T-1000 ran a spike through The Terminator's primary power cell. The Terminator shutdown and then powered back up by rerouting to it's auxilary power supply. Doesn't that mean that the Terminator only had 2 power supplies? If that's the case, when The Terminator in T3 pulls out his power supply at the end of the movie in order to terminate the T-X, he would have had no more power, thus he would have shutdown - permanently. Correct?

Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, my wife and I got our Tech/No Code a couple of Saturdays ago. We're going to get our 5wpm/General this fall. Taking a class along with reading the ARRL book really helps to solidify the theory. It's best to actually UNDERSTAND what you're learning, rather than memorizing the question/answer pool. The General test (35 questions) doesn't look too bad, but the Extra exam (50 questions) looks like a nightmare. :-)

  15. Fry 'Em on Appropriate Punishment For Crackers? · · Score: 1

When I was a kid, my parents taught me what was right and what was wrong. I developed a conscience as a result. If I did something bad, I knew my dad was gonna punish me, either with a ruler over the butt, or by taking away something that I "couldn't live without". Nowadays, parents don't punish their kids, for fear that the kids will SUE them. So, the kids get away with everything. There are no CONSEQUENCES. This is REDICULOUS. These kids who are committing computer crimes are GUILTY OF A CRIME. They should be punished as adults, and no pity should be shed on them. Who is to blame? The criminals first and foremost, but also the parents. The moral decay of this country is tearing it apart. Why are single-parent families glorified? Each kid deserves two parents: a male FATHER and a female MOTHER. Then, these two people need to teach their children right from wrong. Don't wait for the teachers in school to do this - that's not their job. Their job is to teach your kid about history and math, not ethics. Parents have become lazy and self-centered and it's about time this changes. The politically-correct years of BILL CLINTON are over, my friends. Grab your kids, sit them down and tell them that if they use a computer to commit a crime, that they're on their own. Instill some fear in your kids. If they fear that Bubba will have his way with them in prison, then maybe they'll think twice about cracking into a site to impress their friends. So, fry 'em I say. They DESERVE IT.
