Agreed.
The 'disassembled' routines are simply a filling routine with register D and a copy routine.
As a Z80 developer, you really don't need to disassemble this kind of routines.
I guess the source code parts come from the intro, and its coder was not very good either. For example: CALL/RET instead of JP or disassembling a copy routine, and keeping it called L_B000_2914.
I think that their most important failure is their development process.
For years, Microsoft's books about software management were the best, because it included human management (by suggesting using geniuses for the coding) along with software planning.
But these last years, the agile methodologies (TDD, extreme programming, etc...) appeared and Microsoft has not been able to use them.
First, their main problem is that they have a lot of legacy code (millions of lines of code !) with ZERO automated test (we don't count code analysis as a test). Adding tests and refactoring the code will take several YEARS, since the code is not designed to be automatically tested.
Secondly, their tool (Visual Studio) is still unable to generate proper testing skeletons and sucks at refactoring (even though it's promised since several years).
Meanwhile, we see Apple, Google and Mozilla successfully use agile technologies, and tools like Eclipse ease agile development. Apple releases one upgrade every SIX months, and Firefox releases one new version every year. Why cannot Microsoft do the same ?
A generation of cell phones takes less than one year !
Console generations last 2 or 3 years.
Even Ubuntu has a release cycle of one year.
Do Microsoft think everybody will wait 3 YEARS to get their new expensive OS ?
Technology changes every year, and gets cheaper, while Windows is still using old development procedures, and their OS are more and more expensive.
Microsoft has to quickly drop its one year beta phase, and implement automated tests, or Vista will die within the two next years.
I think SETI is successful for having mapped all the geostationary satellites.
This includes of course all secret spying satellites, which may prove useful for the NSA.
Besides that, it has shown the ability to deploy very large distributed projects.
As a distributed project leader, SETI has allowed to setup a nice platform called BOINC, which is helping a lot of smaller projects, which would not been able to have computing power without this infrastructure...
Microsoft's dream since 10 years is to rent web applications, since it will allow them to earn more and more money.
It's impossible to program Office with the current Javascript language.
So, Microsoft is trying to push Silverlight (since it's its own baby based on C#).
The battle that will result may see Microsoft's largest defeat.
First, this is a political battle, and every opponent has to make concessions, and M$ are not good at that.
Secondly, M$ is no more in a position to dictate how the Web should work, since the users have now a large choice of Web browsers (Safari and Firefox in particular). They still behave as if the Web was IE-centric.
Thirdly, Microsoft imposed his OS by crushing its competitors one by one. Due to the progress of Apple and GoogleOS, it's not any more possible.
Frankly, I don't see how Microsoft could win this battle.
If they count on their own forces, they will fail, like they failed with Vista.
If they expect a large developers support, they are wrong, since nobody (I mean nobody important) is supporting Silverlight.
If they count on a miracle, I think they had their share.
Once a technology standard will be decided, everything will depend on large Web companies, like Google.
10-15 years from always,... I'll play Duke Nukem Forever as my car flies me along the correct path.
No, it's an early demo of Duke Nukem Forever 2017.
The final release is not expected before Christmas 2025 (because the computers able to run it are not yet available).
This way, Google will be able to build a large library of copyrighted movies that will become public in 60 years, or when the copyright holder disappears.
That's far sighted, if Google supposes that it will remain in business at this time !
My answer: math is boring, make it fun !
I was uninterested in mathematics until I discovered Martin Gardner's articles. At this moment, I became the major in my class.
I recommend you any of his books.
Once you'll understand that you can have fun, you'll concentrate on the domain your are more interested, since math is a very large domain.
Hotmail may suck, but you might have the same problem as me: a spammer sends messages with your email address.
This adds your email in a blacklist, from where it is impossible to be removed.
I had the problem with aol.com bouncing back all my mails, even though they were in text.
BTW, aol.com recently removed me from this list. I guess they upgraded their spam tools.
If you own your domain, simply try with another email address, but use only one account for all these addresses.
Ok, so why is it not advertised on Dell's site ?
From the TFA, Vista is 50 to 80 dollars more expensive.
Does this only mean that Dell wants Microsoft to reduce its license price ?
Seti@Home, which is supposed to help finding extra-terrestrial life, is typically a project able to map the satellites.
I wonder if they publish their discoveries ?
A technique to cure trauma already exists, and is well known by yogi and shamans: you just need to continuously move your eyes from left to right and then from right to left !

Like the 7 years it will need to release this OS ?
Every OS from Microsoft took more and more time to release. How will they reduce the release cycle ?
Agreed.

Let me guess... Dick Tracy ?

From previous articles, it seemed that Storm had 50 millions infected computers.
The article cites the number 200,000, which seems more realistic.

Come on, an antivirus is a piece of software just to fix the poor security of Windows.
If Windows was properly coded, an antivirus should be completely useless !
Microsoft is at fault here, and has to improve the security of its products.

It already happened with distributed.net. They have quite a long history of such problems: http://www.distributed.net/trojans.php/
