I defanatly agree this could be a very bad idea. However with NASA's budget cut and privatization of space travel this is the most viable idea I've heard to keep it alive. Otherwise it will not be able to attract investors.

Why are so many/.ers insisting that Dems are less guilty than the Republicans in this fight we've recently been having over internet freedom. SOPA/PIPA had some bipartison support (and opposition) but it was mostly the Democrates bill. Check out this informative wikipedia article. Both sides are equally full of currupt assholes stop giving one side a free pass just because you think they're ideallistically superior. Idealism doesn't mean shit when you have two wolves (the politcal parties) and a sheep (the people) deciding what's for dinner. They mainly just argue about how they're going to cook us.

Ideas are easy good implementation of said ideas is hard. Offering consumers a reasonable service at reasonable price should be easy with current copyright laws it's not. I don't want socailism I want to be able to pay $5-$10 dollars a month to access all (most) music from any device without being locked into some moronic DRM scheme. It's not that hard.
That could easily solved by valve just stating they're only going to support 1 distro (e.g Ubuntu). Then if you can get it to run on other distros more power to you but you (yourself) and the community will be your only support.
My aunt and uncle gave me their old netbook when they got a new one. The one they gave me had an 800x600 screen that was a few inches smaller than their new one. Which has a larger 576p screen (can't remember the horizontal resolution). Its sad to see this go down across the board.
Exposure is everything in entertainment industry. A sold out concert tour can rake in money in the 100-200 million dollar range. So if album sales were effectively zero popular artist could still be millionaires.
I'm not saying I believe this, correlation is not causation. But, you could argue that spikes in school shootings are caused by violent video games. Columbine the first highly publicized school shooting happend in 1999 shortly after violent video games became main stream. That could easily be cited as the effect you claim non-existant.
Really? I swear I remeber reading that XMBC used Mplayer for playback. Still there are probably players that use ffmpeg on android (when VLC is finished there will be one for sure).
I know what they are. My point was that the main decoder for XMBC is mplayer. So a good mplayer front-end should be just as good as XBMC for playback and superior because it has an interface for a phone.
XMBC is developed for ios because of appletv. I've tried for my iPhone and it sucks (mainly becuase the interface isn't made for a phone). There are ports of mplayer for android use one of those its practically the same thing.

Ubuntu has been the distro of choice of the greater part of the last decade. Personally I like Unity. Debian would be a great choice too though.

AppleTV currently runs a version of iOS and does have acess to the apple app store.
