I would not put anything out there as XML. If I'm giving away something I worked on, I make a PDF of it, so then I am SURE what it will look like. Musicians are picky. I'm picky. I like to have my scores/parts/music look good. I'd lose that ability to be sure it is going to look if I put it in XML or whatever format.
The other thing I would do would be to give the files that I used to create the music. In my case, it's Finale. But, I have YET to do that. I like to retain some sort of credits for doing the work. PDF allows me to do that. And if they want to hear it, creating an MP3 of a score is simple as well.
Oh my, how lame! Just get some good, made for the job, equipment. These internet things are not going to hold up in a theater enviroment. I know, I've played nearly 60 productions.
Yeah, but, what about LATENCY? I don't see how a computer set up is going to be better than a good wireless system. Plus, how many more failure points are you going to have with a computer system? I think it would be extremely stupid.
Shure makes some excellent wireless products for the music end of it. I'm sure there are other products out there that would work well. You could even be really geeky and get those Nextel radio/cellphones for the crew. I've played a venue recently that the stage guys used that.
But, all things considered, if you are running a business, and depended on your computers being up 24/7/365, thats not bad. I remember Oracle support being REALLY REALLY expensive as well and we were not getting the immediate response. We had something like 24 hour call back or something.
I'd love to see someone post an article using older, PCI macs (9500 or something) running XPostFacto, a G4 card in it, and a huge IDE system (with RAID or without) AND running Mac OS X Server.
I think Apple missed the boat not supporting these Macs with OS X. They make great little OS X workhorses.
Where did you get this "After 90 days, you can still get help -- including more advanced topics -- but it will cost you from $6,000 to $50,000." quote? Link? Facts?
Agreed. The author's conclusions are somewhat suspect. Perl5 vs Perl6 argument. The performance issues aren't considered, nor are the extended features it will have.
And the Mozilla/Netscape reasoning. Mozilla is way faster than 4.8. I have it loaded on my mom's lowly iMac under system 9, and it's WAY faster. I'm a little sad they stopped supporting it under OS 9.:-( Oh well.
Geeze, and I thought my Grandma's driving was slow. Perhaps if the Rover was using a hands-free cell phone attachment it could concentrate on driving more....
Yeah! Lower the price, and people will buy them. Seriously. It's not rocket science. Why spend all that money on copy protection when people are still going to be able to circumvent it.
Make the product cheap, and people will buy it. Simple.
I think Bill had a little too much beef from one of those Canadian Cows with Mad Cow disease. What are you thinking Bill? Another Album? Maybe a duet with Will Wheaton as well?
And it's 4 months till April. Come on, what are we going to do for April Fool's day now???
I have mine. I really liked this show. I think it was doomed because it was on Fox (Fridays at 9pm? WTF), and that instead of showing the intended Pilot, it showed probably one of the lamer episodes as the Pilot.
I think if Fox had decided to show the 2 hour Pilot, it might have lasted longer.
I think the quality of the Episodes got better as the show progressed. I really liked "Out Of Gas" and "Trash" (which was never aired).
Anyhow, maybe UPN or SciFi would pick it up. It was a different show and I enjoyed it.

Now, Knighting Steve Jobs would be a good thing. Knighting Bill Gates?!?!? That is like knighting George W. Bush or William J. Clinton......
Damn, it sounds like freaking Microsoft. Say they know about a bug or a problem, and weeks LATER they fix it......
Oh my, how lame! Just get some good, made for the job, equipment. These internet things are not going to hold up in a theater enviroment. I know, I've played nearly 60 productions.
Exactly. I played a show recently where the crew had these. Seemed to work really well.

Seriously, I've had my fair share........so.......yeah........
I can't imagine having all my domain requests going to Slashdot.org......I'd have sensory overload!

*Faints*
Gotta love Apple. Great company. First the transition from 680X0 processors to Power PC, then from OS 9 to OS X. Pretty damn good I think.

Yeah, I hear you. Mozilla, I think, stops at 1.3 version for OS 9. Which is too bad as it was really starting to shine under OS 9.
And the Mozilla/Netscape reasoning. Mozilla is way faster than 4.8. I have it loaded on my mom's lowly iMac under system 9, and it's WAY faster. I'm a little sad they stopped supporting it under OS 9. :-( Oh well.
Makes me wonder about this guy........
I use Mozilla all the time. Netscape 4.8, as I remember, was slow, prone to hanging, etc, etc.
The author really needs to maybe splurge on a eMachine or something at Walmart and join the rest of us in the year 2000.......

I also re-encode any higher than 256K Mp3s to AAC 160. I can't really notice any difference in quality, but the space savings are quite noticable.
Oh my, MOD that last comment up. TOO FUNNY man!
And it's 4 months till April. Come on, what are we going to do for April Fool's day now???
How about adding AAC support? And making it work with iTunes?
Yeah, and your head was looking good on Futurama ;-)

I dunno which is scarier, Taco posting twice or that he went to college......
I mean, otherwise, he'd have to get a "real job" *gasp*
