I do agree with your points; I just see too many people moaning over how they cant stand the wo/man they married or how hard it is to leave when after a little bit of questioning reveals that they got married when they only knew each other for 6 months. I maybe a little bit weird but vowing to spend the rest of my life with someone is not something any rational or sane person should do if they've only known each other for 6 months, hell a years is not enough time in my opinion. It really irritates me to see someone complain about the situation they got themselves into with almost no forethought.

Sorry to bring in my own personal disgust for those who jump right into the deep end.

Consider that the vast majority of humans on planet earth do not believe in that humble man who changed the Roman Empire(I'm not sure how thats such a large deal, Caesar changed Rome as well). I find it silly to say that Christ changed the Roman Empire, Atila the Hun torn down the Roman empire which had a far greater affect upon the western world and ushered the dark ages. It takes a narrow view to see the changes brought about by just one man and refuse to see that he is but one part of a much much larger tapestry which is human history, which is a smaller part, infinitesimally smaller part, of the history of the universe.

Here Here! I fully agree on both the assessment of Lynch's Dune v SciFi's and Kubrick's The Shining v whatever-horrible-miniseries-that-i-could-not-stand. Just as in with video games you have to sacrifice some realism to make the game fun so too while directing a movie it may be better to go a different route with certain aspects of the translation. Keep to the spirit as best as you can but some things will never translate well. something that comes to mind is Red Dragon by Thomas Harris, the most recent version of it was very well done, it lacked the Dragon's voice in the guy's head (sorry its been a long while since i've read this one) which should have been included however how does one visually show what happens when the fakes suicide in front of the blind girl? how do you visually describe what she felt as she was running her hands over him and finally reaches the face (or lack there of)? some things really do not translate well.

I agree, the time constraints are just too much for something like dune. I personally loved the David Lynch version of it, it may not have been the more perfect adaptation and it does leave out a lot, but the feel of the movie and the acting is, at least to me, far superior to that of the mini series. there was, to me, something just a bit off in the mini series. I was happy that they were able to take their time with the story but it just felt off. The book is far superior to either version. hopefully this next telling will be the best version yet.

I always wondered by over throwing ones own government always means that one must defeat its military. my thought would be that using arms must be a last resort to over throwing the government. only when a government is so corrupt and so resistant to change that trying to work within the constitution does not work, or if in fact the constitution is ignored, then one must take arms against this rogue government that seeks to impose tyranny upon its people. it is not for any other government to help us with this should the situation in the US ever come to that point. it is not for us to give liberty to the peoples of any other nation. if you do not earn your liberty then you will not believe in it, you will not value it, you will not defend it; it will disappear as soon as those who gave it to you leave.

given that, i don't mean to be discriminatory here but i maybe vulgar, some crazy religious fanatics(or crazy communists in vietnam) in a desert can give our mighty war machine such a run for its own money and cost it so dearly, if those who pay the paychecks of those who fight cease to pay them, and start fighting them and bringing them with in the ranks of those who dissent, then you can fight on a fair ground.

i can not seriously believe that if the country is so far gone that it comes to arms that the whole of the military will comply with their orders from above to fire on Citizens. some will choose to do so, but all will not.
